sb280z
I hate to rehash somthing that has been beeten to death but the search didn't net the data I wanted. I have a stock 76 280Z I would like to upgrade to a 5-speed, what tranny will fit with the least amount of trouble? This is my daily driver that I was just tring to get a little more gas milage out of, bet you can't believe gas milage was mentioned on this site! Any way what year make and model would to the trick? 260DET
I thought that US 280ZX's had a five speed. If so should be no problem, or not much.
2126
I would recommend using the 5 spd (B unit...close ratio) out of a 280ZX. But, be sure to check your rear end gearing... the 81 -83 Zx 5 spd is intended to have a 3.90 gearing. 4.11 would be really nice for playing however! Clifton
If you are keeping your 3.54 rear I would use an earlier 5spd. The 81+ have a Slightly taller gears to go with the lower 3.90 rear.
JaysZ
yup, the 81+ has better gearing for gas mileage. i have one out of an N/A 81 ZX you can have for free including stock clutch if you can come get it (or anyone else interested). i live in houston,tx 77025. oh.. the 2nd gear doesnt work very well.. bad syncro i guess.
