Well, Since I put in some hours looking into this previously, lemme tell you what is out there. JWT (Jim Wolf Technology) Makes a filter kit, Some company in japan makes a 5.1L Stroker kit for the VK45DE (It would probly fit the VH) but if I remember its.... expensive. Here is what can be reasonably done to those motors, from Easy to Hard.

 

Custom Exhaust headers - Should be a decent gain, the stock headers are nowhere near long enough to be tuned.

Ported Heads - The intake ports on this car look tiny. Tiny Tiny.

Custom ground cams - Find a machine shop to machine you blank cams, and you can get them ground for like $400ish for the entire set.

Dual Plane Intake Manifold - Would probably do tons of good... the stock single plane manifold is not tuned. 8 into one doesnt produce much tuning effect at all. Only problem of switching to new manifold, is that you would basically need a new Fuel Injection/ Ignition computer. Few options here.... (A $5000+ motec system, or wait forever for Ultra Mega Squirt. (Or convert to carbs :twisted: )

 

At any rate, Going off the Valve inlet area, In race tune, this engine would probably support 600 or more HP NA.

The Twin turbo racing version is destroked to 3.5L (I think...) And is quoted at over 900some hp.

 

This engine is a money trap if you would need to do the new computer setup, not trying to discourage of course.

I think you're going in the right direction here.Looking at the lower plenum,the intake tracks are TINY.Plenty of room to improve.Having a source for headers would be nice but I'm counting on having to fab a set.I like the intake setup on the twin turbo car and will probably do something similar in function but not divided in half.Looked to me like he reversed the injectors from inboard to outboard,which I like a lot.I have just finished the Megasquirt and plan on using the EDIS Ford stuff after a bit more research.Have already scrounged up most of the components,EDIS8 module and coil packs.Base programming parameters should be similar to a 4.6 liter Ford 4 cam motor.Cams are a bit pricey so I plan on spraying the crap out of it as Q45s in the junk yard are pretty pleniful around here.I think 450-500 HP in NA form is a more reasonable estimate of power potential,but hell,what do I know.I just think an all nissan V8 S30 is gonna ROCK! Just gotta make that slushbox crap of a tranny hold up somewhere within reason.A tranny shop on my route seems to think he can stall a converter for me.I hope it will hold up a bit better in a 2700lb car,but I dont have my hopes up.Soon as the chassis gets home from paint jail,I'm getting this project underway.I'm stoked,can you tell?

The transmission is the same as the Z's, according to people on the web. So it should hold power. http://www.automotiveforums.com/t96440.html. How are you going to control the auto trans? I know they are computer controlled. I was looking at AEM. It can control shifts and lock up and run coil on plug. The injectors look to be side feed. MKIV turbo are too. They are 550's and are pretty cheap. If you are staying N/A that might not be a problem though.

Honestly,I am still a bit fuzzy on trans control.I need to figure out exactly how the computer controls it.If its just a matter of on/off solenoids,then I should be able to rig something up,probably with switches on the shifter.It may have a dedicated trans controller that takes inputs from several sources such as vac,TPS,speed, and who knows what else.In which case things get more interesting.The megasquirt has several unused outputs that may be useable for this function,i dont know.I'm sure manual shifting is possible as a last resort,but not much fun for street driving(which I can live with on this mainly track based car).Just looking for a simpler and less costly way to do this than an expensive AEM type control unit which may not be able to do it either.On a side note,its been quite a while since I've heard anything about the blue Japan twin turbo car.Did it ever actually move under its own power?Did he ever make a pass at the track? Seems like a pretty expensive project to have been abandoned before completion.Puttin 'em together is sometimes the easy part,making them work right is another thing altogether.I never saw what type of fuel and ignition control be used,but the coil on plugs were still on it as I recall.Any more detail on that car could be handy if he was willing to share a few secrets.I'd also be interested in what system the 300zx/q45 engine car in Atlanta used,my guess is factory computer with external timing and fuel control for boost.The info hunt goes on....

I bought a lightly crashed Q45 yesterday and a T72 last week so I have been searching more now. I should do this next summer.

 

Lost/Slims vh45 Z32 uses the stock Q EFI. I assume he is using an emulator and reprogramed the ECU. This would cheaper than AEM for me. Don't know if you have the stock EFI. Here's a few links.

I haven't seen anyone making big power out of them other than some guy running methanol in Oz. Without raising the CR alot or shortening the stroke to get alot more revs. If you have links please post them. I have been doing alot of searching.

 

600 rwhp on pump would keep me happy for a while. Shouldn't be a problem with 20-22 psi with a T72. And with high octane, 28 psi. Basically the boost I run on the 7M. I want a little more grunt off boost and a broader power band that only more displacement will give, 50% more and another 1000 rpms :D. I know that 2JZ guys max out the afm voltage around 550 rwhp. I don't know what it would be on the VH considering it was never a turbo but I don't want to spend alot of time learning and tunning one system to find it won't have the ability to read the volume of air needed for 600 rwhp.
