Hi guys/girls Im new to Z cars but I love the look. I know most of you will tell me to search but I really wanted to ask in a new trend so im sorry if this is a repost.

Last night I went to dallas andI seen his alsome looking car. It was to most tricked out Z iv ever seen. When I got out of my car and started talking to him he told me it was a 500HP V8 260Z. My mind right then blew out of the back of my head. I had NO IDEA you guys where messing with this cars. So now I have to have one( in a bad way) So if you guys can please give me some info on the Qs that follew below.

1. What is the best model to buy? ( 240Z, 260Z,280Z, or 280ZX)

2. What can I do with the motor thats in it?

3. If I was going to swap what motor do I want?

4. Can you get suspension upgrades for them? ( lowering springs, strut tower braces, and stuff like that)

5. how old do I need to go to be smog exempt?

Also I want to keep an import motor in there and Im no good with wiring. So I really want to keep carbs if I can.:)

Thanks for any and all help

Welcome. Use the SEARCH function and then read for about a week. You think your mind was blown when you saw the Z in Dallas, it will really be blown when you see just how far people have gone and how meticulous the documentation for a lot of these project cars is! Great people and huge amounts of knowledge are here to help you, but you need to help yourself first by doing some reseach with the search function.

One thing you're doing wrong straight off the bat is posting about V8 engines in the Nissan 6 cylinder forum. This is probably the last forum you want to be looking in on this site.

Maybe he meant that he is pro everything but V8 swaps. Lets not bash the kid, after all he is new.

Just go ahead and read the rules if you havent. If you have any questions, search and you will definatly find the answer(s). Welcome to the community, and I hope you enjoy your stay.

We tend to try and weed out the guys that start off by not opening their eyes to whats here right in front of them, if you search on this wonderfull Z car site.

For someone thats not very computer skilled, using the search function, and actually finding what your looking for, can be a pain.

My advice to you is: Don't get upset when your told to search. Try every way you can think of as far as wording the search.

If you keep your cool, and don't kipe a attitude, others will gladly help you find the info if you have trouble finding it.

You must make an effort first though....

If staying with the orig. L6 motor, but modding it is your cup of tea, you'll find more info on how too's than you can read in one eve.

As far as the other engine mods, esspecially the ones where you swap to a different motor, there are seperate sections with just as much great info in it. You just have to practice the art of SEARCHING....

Bottom line here is, we welcome all that want to gain the wealth of info here, but to be spoon feed the info gets old fast.

Let most of the wise cracks roll off your back, cause no one here really trys to be an a$$. Just search first, ask questions second.....

Welcome here sho_shane

To answer you questions

1. 240Z is the lightest but has thin sheetmetal.

260Z is only produced for about one year. and the car gets s bit heavier

280Z is the heaviest with thicker sheetmetal, stronger body and has fuel injection and ECU. 240Z~280Z has the same body style. 280ZX is a different model. If you want the car that looks like the one you saw then you should buy a 240Z, 260Z or 280Z

2. Stock L type engines are ok, if you only want 150~170 hp.

You can build a stroker but to many people here it's not worth the time and money because you can drop in a V8 or do a easy turbo engine swap from a 280ZXT

3. Depends on what you want, you can put anything in there. LS1, chevy small block, ford, Rb26dett, rb25det, sr20det, ka24, 2jzgte, 13b rotary, jaguar V12, BMW V12...these are some swaps ACTUALLY DONE by members here.

4. yes

5. ask people in the US, I am from Canada

Wanting a Z really bad, fine, but getting one needs a cool head. Choose a good, low rust car to start with or you will end up like me, bought a car that is made of cheese. It will take a lot of love/energy/time/money/headache before your Z begins to love you back....personal experience.

Then you are in the wrong place....

Purism or anti-engine swap attitudes are not tolerated here....

Then why does this site have a Nissan L6 forum? Let the guy alone while he's figuring out what he wants to do and kill the negative attitude towards new people...everyone was new to this at one time.

I ask dumb questions all the time too. I wish people would just answer your simple questions instead just posting "SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH."

Here are some really good links to Z car info:

Engine Tuning Tips

Rocky Auto - what everybody wants

I'm currently trying to put a 280ZX Turbo engine into the smaller/lighter 240Z. Turbo is the cheapest way to go fast. Forget the carbed stroker engine if you plan on drying the car everyday. (Don't get me wrong. My hat is off to those who put in all the work for their brilliant NA strokers.)

Apparently, I've read somewhere that Tokico springs/shocks, aftermarket stabilisers, and full polyurethane bushings gives you a 1.2g skidpad figure. The 240Z is a relatively light car. It doesn't need a lot of power and heavy modding to keep up with modern sports cars. You can easily buy power with money, but light weight is something that is difficult to obtain.

The reason we tell you to search is so that when someone else reads the rules about posting and SEARCHES FIRST, then they don't have to weed through 557 posts on the same topic with some really good answers and some really useless answers. If you search and find your answer and don't post a redundant question, then searching becomes easier for the next guy. As to asking dumb questions, it's a lot dumber to ask if there is a place that sells a V8 conversion kit than it is to ask what a V8 is if you get what I'm saying.

That bit about the suspension is not even close to correct BTW. You need quite a bit more to pull that kind of G. Either that or I must be pulling 2g's now, cause my car sure handles a hell of a lot better than a Z set up with poly, tokicos and sway bars.

Unless you're capable of better spelling than demonstrated in that post, searching will also be a waste of time.

In my opinion the Z has to be the most versatile car for engine swapping. It will physically contain just about any thing you want put in there. The options are only limited by your imagination and buget.

The body styling by the some of the people around here is nothing short fantastic.

Z cars are becoming rare so you might end up with a second choice. But even those can be made into something incredible.

Find a car for sale. Search around the board. PM some of the people with a style or swap that interests you, then “have at itâ€.

Welcome aboard!
