Right after the Vipers came out, I was in Detroit and a friend of mine, who is an engineer for Chrysler and worked on the Viper project, had one of the Chrysler motorpool Vipers at home. He asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. I mistakenly said YES! We entered I-75 South at 14 mile road. We were doing 110 by the time we entered the freeway and proceeded to thread through traffic at 140+. Definitly a white knuckle ride. Had to change the shorts when we returned.

75 280z with front airdam, big throat throttle body, and cold air intake and exhaust with a 4 speed tranny. Hit 135 and still had about 600 RPM to go till red.I had to back off off when front end started getting light over hill on I-285 due to stock suspension still being fitted. I was racing a late model 300zx and he had backed off and flashed lights at about 120. I got hit in that 280 buy some girl(sad day)...I ended up pulling the motor(still ran great) and anything I could off it. I dont think I'll test my 240z with turbo motor on the highway.

I hit 160 last night. Felt rock solid with the windows down, though I felt a little wobble as I passed between a pair of modded Stang GT's moving about 130-135. They were friends of mine and knew I was coming up the middle. ;)

I have a g-nose, belly pan, hood vents, good alignment, good balance, stiff springs, and near 300 rwhp. smile.gif Was still pulling, but I wasn't out to max it, just have some fun on a VERY open 6 lane road that was empty.

Hmm.... 135mph in my stock 1991 NA 300zx....

I was "with" the Dj on the night he hit 160.. but I was trailing behind badly in my 86 beater BMW until I just gave up and went home. :( I could only get that thing up to 85 before it starts to humm and resonate and shake! lol, oh well.. nice job keeping up with those madmen sam!

QUOTE: In 1998, with the Paxton working half way decently, I reached a speedo indication of 170+ or - (buried the speedo needle past the stock 160mph speedo). The tach was bouncing around 4900/5000rpm. Doing the math with 24.8" tires, stock R200 rearend with 3.54 ratio, and a .63 5th spd gearing on the WCT-5 tranny; I calculated an honest 160+/-. At 150-155mph the car felt fairly stable and handled rather well. But at 160 it started lift in the front and I could feel pockets of air moving the car irradically. For that kind of speed, more attention is needed to underneath aerodynamics. I'm not inclined to want to do a repeat performance! 150+mph is plenty fast to whip most of the wanabes out on the road. END QUOTE:

I am not going to go into all of the mods to my car, but I do have a complete suspension package on my car including brakes. I was running down the road with one of the new boxters and I reached 5500 RPM in fifth gear which is about 140 mph. That was fast enough for my car. I may have been at 6K rpm, but I was not looking at the instruments to close. I dont think I would take the car to much faster then that without doing some work to keep the front on the ground. The steering got very light on the wheel so I did not want to push it. The engine was willing to go to redline, but I wasn't willing to have the front come off the ground.

No that thing didn't handle for beans, I used to take 2-3 lanes for my mild turns, this was between 3-3:30 AM BTW, so I'd see no more than 2 cars on the way to work. This practice of boyhood idiocy ended up costing me my engine eventually, I think it started with a lifter, but it went fast either way. Upon dissasembly, I could punch 3 pistons down into the bore, and there was quite alot of cast iron and aluminum in the intake valley, doh :(

Yep, I dont know what the rear end ratio was (2.73?), but it was a TH400 (4 speeds are hard to find!), 400 engine. I can't vouch for the speedos accuracy either, but it was fast, and in that car it felt VERY fast because of the old ass suspension and basically dead KYB shocks. Front end with some head wind is not something that makes you feel comfortable, which is what held me against trying for more.

Now the Camaro while noisy at high speeds, is totally and absolutely stable at near 150 (Koni DA, 600# front 140-160# rear), haven't had the balls to go for more though, because if you do F up, your toast, and I'd rather not have that become reality! As time goes on I'll push it more and more though I'm sure, I love I5 for those road trips smile.gif

I can say the car is totally stable to 100 MPH, but thats all I have so far. With traffic how it is in my area it would have to be early AM to try for more than that.

Better safe than sorry, a little air the wrong way will toss a car over, especially a lightweight Z car! Without some aero work I dont expect to see more than 130, and I dont even know if I have the HP to get over 120 smile.gif
