Dtsnlvrs
probably one of the best versions since he went sober =) i give you god.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hw-YZuiRfjc i saw him live at the crystal in L.A. around 91 and Phil Collins showed up and took over drums during one of the sets and suprised him... but actually suprised me.. i had no idea Phil Collins could drum like that. If Clapton is GOD then this must be JESUS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-IzO30aF_g
Gollum
No offence to jimi, but I love how SRV plays hendrix better than he did himself. It's uncanny. If I ever own a strat it will be for one reason, jimi covers. And SRV is one of the few that make me want to do jimi covers. Awesome. I was at this show (guitar hero 06). Up in front wearing a hat, in line with the huhges and kettner amp. And the guy who won: (if you don't like jazz, just keep watching still, trust me)
JMortensen
I think Russell wins. Stevie Ray Vaugn's cover of Voodoo Child or Little Wing for that matter have got to be 2 best covers I've ever heard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0zy0lqpOyc
veritech-z
I think Russell wins. Stevie Ray Vaugn's cover of Voodoo Child or Little Wing for that matter have got to be 2 best covers I've ever heard. I'm not sure I'd agree with that (but if you've been following this thread, I suppose you've probably formed an opinion about my taste in music...), SRV is an AMAZING talent, but his versions of Hendrix are missing something for me, maybe some of the spontineity that Hendrix always had in his music... I think Bob Dylan is a great songwriter, but a horrible performer-anybody that does a Dylan cover automatically has a better version in my opinion. Observe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI55uV7Ns4o http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in4Wv_LGeO4&mode=related&search= and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS063a6DNtU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egct4YmlucM I'm not sure if this counts as a cover, but I always liked this song, both versions... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6rP2TZfVcU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPnm-8lQqg0
veritech-z
language alert! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1bVkgEiiEg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm_eSW3K_oQ My personal philosophy on cover songs: if it doesn't sound like you wrote it, you didn't do a good cover...on that note, has anyone heard the Cure's version of Jimi Hendrix's Fire? veritech-z
I found this cover to be rather a bizarre choice for these guys... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO6LnKAxZcY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txPQ8MZBAww If you don't know Gnarles Barkley by name, you've probably heard their big single Crazy at least once: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3D4_ljnjqo The singer from that group, Cee lo Green, prior to doing that type of neo-motown or whatever you want to call it, was primarily known for his work with such southern artists as Trick Daddy and Outkast. He's the high pitched voice guy on this song: (language alert on this one too) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJ4BFCtltXo (gotta love them georgia peaches...) I was really curious about Gnarles Barkley when I first heard it, it's a pretty big departure, kind of an interesting side project.

veritech-z
I guess I'm the only one that still likes this thread...found these guys the other day. I kind of dig their sound, but they are making some SUSPECT wardrobe decisions...kind of like if you cast david bowie as sephiroth in the Final Fantasy 7 movie, I give you: Vidoll! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVGXBb1NbjE&mode=related&search= Big-phil, I think we should start a band so we can dress like that and rock out! COZY Z COLE
lol... Keep posting. I've "clicked" every link in this thread even though my real tastes are stuck a few decades ago... LARRY
Gollum
I dress like a rock star every day... ...And there ARE people who watch this thread, like me I plan on putting some vids up on youtube soon of me playing, but I'm not sure what I want to do first. I think I want to make some vids making fun of all those people that talk about how hard a particular genre is to play. Title them something like "nu-metal guitar is easy" "speed metal guitar is easy" "bues guitar is easy". Or something to that effect. Then again I might just make some decent vids of some of my neo-classical stuff. Oh, and more worrisome than that last band's wardrobe choice is their guitar tone choice. I still find it so odd that most jap bands really love that solid state tone... yum.
veritech-z
Gollum, you can be in our virtual band too! Leather pants for the win! I've been daydreaming about what I want to include in my Hybridz Virtual Talent Show video...(that would be the Hybridz Virtual Talent Show thread that I haven't started yet in case you were wondering...) Adam393
Thrice has been one of my fav bands for awhile, and this is one of their new songs: Come All You Weary If you can get past the obvious religious undertones, i think it really is a great song, i cant wait for their new album!!! Another band i really enjoy is Celldweller, they have such a unique blend of melody, hard rock and kinda techno sound all fused together and i really like them, heres one of their more hard rock songs, Switchback: Heres one of thier more melodical songs put with a vid from Final Fantasy, Under My Feet:

73ZCAR
Here's one from Ceelo that I hadn't seen until the other day. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQAHMj2qFxE Great tune and the video cracks me up. Mike.
Gollum
Well I've hosted my first youtube video, and I'm reluctant to post it here because I know there's so many music freaks around, plus I wasn't too concerned with perfection, and it shows methinks. It was basically just a trial run of the compression I'm using to see how youtube would react to it. So far I'm happy enough, and will just work on the quality from here on out (note the blocks from the compression). The video and audio stayed decently in sync so I think it was a postive experiment. And the link: Video - Shades of Bach Yes it's my arrangement. It's my tribute to bach so to speak. I'll probably think it's crap in another year though, oh well. Going on 4 years strong now and my obsession borders insanity. I should be better though. Oh well, at least I can see myself progress every now and then.
