The engine, which will be hand-built at a rate of 1500-2000 per year at the General Motors Performance Center outside Detroit, features an integrated intake manifold intercooler similar to the one GM developed for the Cadillac STS V-Series. just when you thought nothing was cooler than the new z06!!! http://cwimg.us.publicus.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?Site=CW&Date=20061005&Category=FREE&ArtNo=61004002&Ref=V3&Profile=1065&maxw=490 http://cwimg.us.publicus.com/apps/pbcsi.dll/bilde?NewTbl=1&Avis=CW&Dato=20061005&Kategori=PHOTOS02&Lopenr=1005001&Ref=PH&Item=2&Logo=/g/autoweek_watermark.gif&Maxw=
Jeff
That thing would be a kick in the pants to drive but the C6 Z06 is no slouch. I had the pleasure of riding in a friends new slightly modified Z06 on a test track up in Gainesville on Saturday and that car is just amazing. I had been driving a friends highly modified beast of a 1998 Camaro all day and was just amazed at how refined that car was. It's quiet, smooth, has brakes that will pop your eyeballs out of their sockets and oh yea it will flat out haul ass too!
Chewievette
Is it bad that I'm becoming less and less thrilled everytime I hear about one of these new overpowered and overpriced cars? I mean, sure its cool as heck but the odds of me ever owning one of these cars is slim to none. Not that I ever would, I'd pick a '53, '69, '78 body style vette over one of these any day. I think there are certain things that should not be entrusted to the general public.
boodlefoof
Dave, you skipped the '63-'67 body style in your list of picks. Those are personally my favorites!
grumpyvette
I was seriously toying with the idea of getting a 2007 Z06,but the $75,000,price and the fact that I both don,t like the styling as much on the 2007 corvette as much as my 1996 corvette, and the Z06 corvette would be no faster than my current (heavily modified 1985)corvette made me drop the idea. look $17,000 http://www.theengineshop.com/prods_pages/108061.htm $5000 http://www.transmissioncenter.net/4L80E.htm add about $3000 for a disc brake dana 60 rear and you have a potentially much faster car for less than 1/3 the price, yeah IM well aware, that it won,t resale or handle as well, but it will be very impressive ,have well over 800hp, unique and cost less
veritech-z
I'm with you grumpy. I guess I'm just one of those people that given an unlimited budget would rather buy something older and make it faster, instead of just buying something new off the shelf. That being said, when I saw the Speedvision Corvettes tearing ass around the St. Pete Grand Prix, I wanted to go to a chevy dealership RIGHT THEN and buy one. Those are some of the best sounding race cars I've heard, and on that particular track, the average MPH of the F1 cars was 103mph, and the vettes was 99mph. Not that far off, really. I took this picture at the race:
Chewievette
Those three years are at the very top of my list for vettes, that's why I said them. Sure I wouldnt mind owning one of the others but there's just something about those three. If you gave me an unlimited budget and told me I had to spend it on a C6, I'd start with a Z06, put a C6R body on it the C6R engine in it and probably a bunch of the other C6R stuff too. I've never liked the yellow paint, something more like the original C5R silver and black would look better. I think the race cars look absolutely wicked and that body on a street car would put the fear of god in any ricer on the line. But that's just one of my many fantasies. Mikelly
It's also why the Vette isn't currently on my shopping list... Although it's an impressive car, I really recent Chevy (And the car rags) for "claiming" $65K for that car... You can't find them for less than $70K used. If you want to order one, sit and wait and HOPE your order didn't get redirected to someone else (Has happened a number of times already) and get it sometime next year, sure go ahead! I'm looking at the left over 2006 Viper Coupe, along with the P-car! Mike
