dr_hunt
No biggie, you wanted a new motor anyway, this is a good reason to blame it on an accident. Pretty shrewd I'd say, since you need to get approval for the new build!
HICKL
So Doc, your thinkin I "unconsciously" did it on purpose??? He Heee, you may be right.
grumpyvette
thinking back I don,t EVER remember a set of cylinder heads surviving a engine screw-up, like that un-damaged, Ill be surprised if anything but the intake, waterpump valve covers, damper, flywheel, and most of the valve train survived un touched
HICKL
Should find out today about my heads. I have stumbled accross a motor but am procedding very cautiously. A guy in Houston had a 383 built by some dude named Craig Morrison in Dallas (anybody heard of him?), anyway, he put it in his old street rod and after about 1000 miles it was still burning oil. The guy determined that the rings never seated so he bought a crate motor and set this one aside (dude's got some money I guess). He was trying to sell the complete motor for $1800 bucks. Everything included from distributer to new edelbrock 750 carb on a perfromer rpm air gap intake, dart iron eagle heads, basically the entire motor ready to drop in. Last week, he decided to take it off the marked, tear it apart and re-ring it. I talked to him last night and it is taken apart but he will still sell it for that price. He said it was a steel crank but didn't know who made it. What do you guys think? I think I will at least take a look at it, especially if my heads ar junk. It's a friend of my uncle so I find a little comfort that the guy is honest.
Ledphoot
For that kind of cash I think I would buy a quality 383 kit and build it locally. Sounds like he may have some bad machine work. If you end up with a bad bore you'll end up having to start from scratch anyway and the parts aren't worth that kind of money...even with the heads and carb because you cant be sure of anything you cant hear run.. Just my opinion..

grumpyvette
well? are the heads salvageable or are you basically starting from zero?
HICKL
I had to rattle the guys cage yesterday, he promised to get to them today. He feels pretty good about it but will see. I have also secured another 2 bolt main "010" complete 350 for $100. Have not bought it yet pending my head outcome. If my heads are junk, this stroker I found may be worth looking into. HICKL
well? are the heads salvageable or are you basically starting from zero? Hey Grumpy, I just talked to my guy, My heads are ok, just bent one valve. I bought another motor yesterday, will take that block to the shop next week to get it checked out. It is an "010" casting that has never been bored. Do all stroker kits start at .030 over? I still haven't made up my mind on which route to take, I want to do the stroker, just need to find a "deal" on a kit. Jeff
BillZ260
Ok, i know i mentioned it before, but I have a set of KB Hypers w/ 12 cc Dish, very nice. Make you a deal on them but they are standard bore, so if your new block can get away w/ just a hone... Here's some pics.. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/billz260/IMG_0037.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/billz260/IMG_0038.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/billz260/IMG_0039.jpg If you don't want them, I guess I can use them to make one of these... http://www.zombiesushi.com/wp-content/images/engine_table-big.jpg
HICKL
I doubt I can get away with just a hone. Motor is 30 years old. Will keep it in mind though.
Ledphoot
Hickl, I've seen some nice kits on Ebay. Just make sure you deal with someone of good reputation. I've found the best pricing there too. Check Summit, PAW and http://www.naparts.com/ProductDetail.cfm?ProductId=549 I used this kit from Northern Auto Parts in a buds 4x4 truck and he beats the S#^t out of it everyday! HICKL
I think I have pretty much decided on doing a stroker build. I want an internally balanced setup. Anybody heard of or dealt with these guys? http://stores.ebay.com/DYNOFLO-PERFORMANCE-AUTOWORKS
twoeightythreez
Geez...all ya gotta do is throw those parts into a bag with some M&M's and call it "Engine Mix" "perfect for iron deficiency" "fortified with aluminum!" J/K Sorry about your loss. How long did you keep it running again?
