Thanks for clarifying this info, i actually didnt know that even if youre car is still older then 25 years it would have to get checked for smog testing but not as often. Its just seems to me that if the car is that old it still wouldnt pass, but they would still let you drive it out there with a paper stating that you did pass. I dont even know if its better or worce passing or failing.

One more thing that i just want to throw out there. Last year I heard something about new bill will be getting passed for emission testing facilities only will be testing cars that are 1995 and up. Well it still didnt happened here yet but it seems that some mechanics are actually starting to believe that this will happened soon or later as a metter a fact, i think that there is one or two states that had passed that out allready.

Though I agree with the overall attitude that "CA sucks" I don't believe moving to a different state is really the definitive answer. Most guys enjoy cars, and a very large part of our state is guys. I REALLY don't want to break the rules here, so I'm just gonna link to the SEMASAN (sema action network) and just say "stay informed"

the state is also investigating muscle/restored cars because of understated value and the possabilty of lost revenue at dmv.i heard on another website that the dmv raided boyd coddington's shop to check titles on the cars.komifornia has a basic registration fee+ a tax on the value of the vehicle.even though the new motorcycle i bought in 2002 is worth 1/2 now i still get charged the the same as when it was new.i am ready to move to a new state.

plus there is a huge difference in what you paid for a resto car vs. what it's stated value is. either way california gets their cut and if they dont they screw you over until they do.

I had to read this twice before I got the general gist of what you're saying. Not to hijack the thread but... There is nothing about 25 year old cars in the CAVC. Maybe in other states, but not here in the state where we don't get tornados, hurricanes, or plagues of locusts. It WAS 30 years. Now, it's everything 76 and newer must go through a smog inspection. They must pass. To pass they must be within the guidelines for the year the model year they were made, AND (if it is a non stock engine) the make and model of the engine for it's date of manufacture.

I've never heard of this bill, I'm betting no one here has. Personally, if there was such a bill, I would vote against it. I am for the rolling thirty, but nothing less.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, I know this has all been rehashed a thousand times.
