JMortensen
katman wants to know if you are going to be road racing. Judging by your last post maybe you'll be street racing... Road racing is done on a road course like Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca, PIR, etc. Drag racing is done on a drag strip. Street racing is illegal drag racing done on the street. The sanctioning body katman is talking about might be SCCA, NASA, NHRA, IHRA or something like that. They all have their own rulesets and require different specs for a roll cage. You need to start by figuring out what kind of racing you want to do and which sanctioning body you're going to run with, then you can get the specs necessary to build a legal cage and then you can go from there. Right now I'd guess you still need to do a lot of research...
rdsk8ter
Most of what racing Im going to be doing is the drag racing at the strip the rest will be for show. I do not nor will I ever condone or compete in illegal races on the street. I lost a close friend due to a honda loosing control and t-boning him. When you see a f-350s frame bent by a civic you think about the force Im glad he didnt suffer. So any way ya mostly drag racing on the 1/4. johnc
For what you're planning to do, the cheapest and quickest solution is an Autopower bolt-in roll bar (part # 60170L with the harness bar option part # HMT). Its fine for a street and drag car and OK for open track events on a road course.
JDMFairladyZX
For what you're planning to do, the cheapest and quickest solution is an Autopower bolt-in roll bar (part # 60170L with the harness bar option part # HMT). Its fine for a street and drag car and OK for open track events on a road course. I just discovered autopower industries and their bolt in cages, i plan on autoXing my 280zx soon and i want to install a bucket seat and a harness, Im not sure how a harness is mounted so just wanted to double check that if i were to buy the 60170L (it is bolt in correct?) with the optional cross bar..I would be able to safely mount my harness to there? Thanks just wanted to make sure before i buy. *also anyone have the Race roll bar installed in their Z, I'd love to see a pic thanks! Twoeightnine
Hey John. Does any one make a mount just for the harness? Maybe a single rollbar with the mount bar as well? Does Beta do this?
johnc
Does any one make a mount just for the harness? A strong rear strut tower bar can work as a mount for the shoulder harnesses. It would have to be at least made of DOM 1" OD .083" wall round tubing.
Twoeightnine
Very cool John. I dont really think that I should have a roll bar for a street rig but, I would like to install a harness. Tossed out the factory belts on day one. I had also read that the harness mount point needed to be as close to shoulder height as possible. Mounting them to the rear deck was too low and could cause compression to one back in a crash. Or is that hearsay? Regardless, the strut towers are at a good height. Any one build such a bar?
