BLKMGK
Taurus fan like this one -> http://cgi.ebay.com/90-91-95-Taurus-Continetal-Sable-Radiator-Fan-3-8L-Assy_W0QQitemZ160132853557QQihZ006QQcategoryZ33600QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem One thing to note with these - use Bosch relays. If you use the generic crap from RadioShack or the local auto parts store it WILL burn up when used heavily. Been there, done that on my Supra (it ran a Taurus fan too!). My Z actually has a Cobra fan on it, biggest difference is the shroud. A good place to get the relays, bases, and serious wiring is Waytekwire.com. Their crimp connectors can be gotten with heatshrink and glue in them. These are serious pieces and is what I use wiring any of my vehicles. they have a pretty nice catalog too http://www.waytekwire.com/
AkumaNoZeta
Bringing up a dead post with a question of mine. This was the only thread I found in a search so forgive me if it's been asked. What about these fans? http://www.siliconeintakes.com/index.php?cPath=15&osCsid=83b4e46ed87b2e0f19ee037e30c9e3a7 They're slim and are all under $30. Are they worth it? I've never seen electric fans unused for that cheap before.
deja
Well ther 14" has a CFM of 1850 seems a little weak.
AkumaNoZeta
What kind of CFMs should be ideal?
deja
Good question and I really don't know the answer. The Taurus fan pulls a ton of air 2500 (low speed)-4500 (high speed) depending on which model you have. If you are running AC, oil cooler, automatic tranny cooler you obviously need more CFM. Adding a V8 to our cars requries more cooling too. You don't want to cut corners on this one, the results can make a daily driver a nightmare if you start having cooling issues in traffic. A few dollars here will be well worth it. The Tarues fan can be found pretty reasonably priced. And DO NOT use those through the radiator mounting things, they wil eventually take out your radiator. hoov100
the general rule of thumb is 3k CFM, but variables like radiator size/condition, water pump, thermostat, air box, would IMHO determine how big of a fan you need.
pparaska
I hate to sound like an echo - but deja and hoov100 have got it so right. The Taurus fan (or any of the other FoMoCo fans that use that same 2spd motor, such as the 99 Mustang GT fan I used) are the way to go. 1800 cfm is going to be on the edge if not just enough. Spal and others now make aftermarket fans that have better (curved) blade designs and put out 3000 cfm or more. Just realize that you will be pulling a ton of amps at idle when the taurus fan comes on high speed. My idle drops several hundred rpm when that happens. (But I'm running a carb and haven't hooked up a fast idle solenoid to fix that yet).
sweetride2go
Taurus fans are great, and easily avialable. Don't forget, sealing the shroud up to the radiator will also help a great deal. I somehow got a single speed Taurus fan, and it's completly identical to the other one I have wich is the 2 speed. Cheers Ryan~
AkumaNoZeta
Wow, I didn't realize how much better the Taurus fans are. I guess I need to find a junkyard, lol.
jhm
77Z- Here's my setup. 16" low profile Spal puller fan on a JTR aluminum radiator with custom fabricated aluminum fan shroud. My engine's mounted in the Scarab position and I don't have much room between the water pump and radiator, so the Spal low profile fan works really well -- I tried the Taurus fan and just couldn't get it to fit. Spal has a great selection of high-flow and low profile fans. My car runs at 190 deg F all day long, no matter what kind of traffic I'm in. I think most people will tell you that a puller fan is the preferred setup, although I've seen some guys install a pusher fan on the front of their radiator in addition to the puller -- this is usually only necessary on a really hot running motor (or in really hot environments, such as yours). Good luck and happy motoring! JHM

jhm
hoov100- I couldn't use the Taurus fan because of interference between the fan motor assemby and the water pump pulley. I trimmed the fan's shroud as much as possible, but just couldn't get it to work with my setup. Went to the Spal fan and it fit fine. You can see from the pic that I have very little room between the radiator and the pump pulley (and that's with a short water pump). r/jhm
DavyZ
JHM, You, sir, have your JTR mounts in backwards. You now have LESS room than the standard Scarab mounts. I'm looking at your pictures and cannot believe the small amount of room you have---you should almost be able to stand between your radiator and your pulley, literally; there should be that much room there. I don't want to hijack the thread or embarrass you, but if you post more pics, we could verify that. If it is the case stated above, you are not the first one... EDIT: you did not state that you used the JTR mounts...you may very well have the Scarab mounts instead. Sorry for ASSuming! jhm
DavyZ- Thx very much for your reply. I do not, in fact, have JTR mounts. The motor had already been installed when I bought the car -- one of the previous owners had done the conversion and it appears that he used some "el cheapo" homebuilt or other vendor's motor mounts. You are correct that they actually put the motor a couple inches further forward than the Scarab position. Not great for weight distribution, but sure makes it easy to work on the motor! Maybe someday when I'm feeling bored and masochistic, I'll relocate the motor. Thx again. jhm
