Here is what we know:

Title says 79. Rear of the car says Turbo. There is some sort of factory looking boost dial in the dash. It's a Targa Top. It's a widebody. Buzz is not sure if it even runs yet, and not sure the boost dial was for an original turbo or for this blower.

Weird:

Never saw a targa with a widebody or a turbo.

Allow me to chime in here, as I own a 911 Turbo from this particular generation of 911 (i.e 1975-1989) – this is the first Gen. 911 Turbo cars from Porsche.

Firstly if it is a widebody with steel flares front and rare, the “turbo badge in black†on the rear trunk lid and a boost gauge built into the tach like this:

It is more than likely a genuine Turbo built factory car. There are many converted cars out there as well and Turbo look alikes as well that are normally aspirated.

Many Turbo cars had eventual failures of the factory and rather old technology KKK 3LDZ turbo and some owners converted them over to Superchargers which was OK, as you get the low compression motor to play with. There is no way that car had a Turbo AND a Paxton supercharger….if it does…I will change my name to PeeWee Herman and wear a dunce cap!

FYI, if this car is factory Turbo Targa, it is very rare as most Turbo cars were Coupes with a smaller percentage being convertibles and an even smaller percentage being Targas.

Hope that helps

Good luck!

Regards - Yasin

Well: It does say Turbo on the trunk lid? I don't see a turbo in there any where, probably replaced with the blower. It has a dial for boost control plus and minus in front of the gear shift, looks factory.I did see a boost gauge,I don't think it was in the tac,I think it was in front of the shifter with 2 other gauges that look factory.I think the fender flairs and running boads are metal and look to be factory,But not sure I had limited time and it was getting dark,I was only under the car for 2 min checking power to the starter.every thing looks to be factory but the super charger.I'll get more pic's when I have more time, it's in a storage shed no electric. He got the car from a woman that was getting a devorce,it was her husbands and in her name! Stupid ! She needed money. Wait till he finds out!!! LOL It was sitting in a barn,Not even sure if it runs yet.It wouldn't even crank over, due to an alarm system,But I fixed that!! He,He. I belive it might be a 77.

Porsches didn't use Paxtons, although my 1963 Studebaker Avanti came from the factory with one installed. Make sure it turns freely as the ball drive is the weak point, check the fluid level with the dipstick to the right of the Paxton sticker on the case. The belt tensioning pully looks a little rough. If the blower is bad, it can be rebuilt - although a bit pricey.
