hoov100
I am pretty sure that they made fairlady 300zx with a 2 litre. (200zr, not 300zx)
Sparks280zt
I am pretty sure that they made fairlady 300zx with a 2 litre. Wrong, it was called a 200zr.
vrocious
if your trying to source rhd parts why not try down here in oz too? there are plenty around, only downside is postage but with your dollar stronger then ours it helps a little bit on your side
HS30-H
Does anybody have a clue about the engine? The State of Washington "Assigned Identification Number" ( *HS130 001254* - which is the car's VIN prefix and body serial number ) tells you that it came from the factory with the L28E engine. That's what the 'H' in the prefix stands for. Looks to me like it is either an HS130 'Fairlady 280Z' or HS130J 'Fairlady 280Z-T' model. The difference between the two is in the trim and options level, and they both used that 'HS130' VIN prefix. Japanese market S130-series full model lineup: *S130S = Fairlady Z ( 1978~83 ) *S130 = Fairlady Z-L ( 1978~83 ) *S130J = Fairlady Z-T ( 1978~83 ) *GS130 = Fairlady Z-L 2by2 ( 1978~83 ) *GS130J = Fairlady Z-T 2by2 ( 1978~83 ) *GS130S = Fairlady Z 2by2 ( 1978~83 ) *HS130 = Fairlady 280Z-L ( 1978~81 ) *HS130J = Fairlady 280Z-T ( 1978~83 ) *HGS130 = Fairlady 280Z-L 2by2 ( 1978~81 ) *HGS130J = Fairlady 280Z-T 2by2 ( 1978~83 ) *KHS130JBC = Fairlady 280Z ( T-bar roof ) ( 1978~83 ) *KHGS130JBC = Fairlady 280Z 2by2 ( T-bar roof ) ( 1978~83 ) *KS130J = Fairlady Z ( T-bar roof ) ( 1980~83 ) *KGS130J = Fairlady Z 2by2 ( T-bar roof ) ( 1980~83 ) *S130ST = Fairlady Z Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *S130T = Fairlady Z-L Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *S130JTB = Fairlady Z-T Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *GS130T = Fairlady Z-L 2by2 Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *GS130JTB = Fairlady Z-T 2by2 Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *GS130ST = Fairlady Z 2by2 Turbo ( 1982~83 ) *KS130JTB = Fairlady Z Turbo ( T-bar roof ) ( 1982~83 ) *KGS130JTB = Fairlady Z Turbo 2by2 ( T-bar roof ) ( 1982~83 ) Forget about that talk of this being a "Pre Production" model ( I don't know where people dream that stuff up from ) as it is just a relatively early body serial number and nothing more. They started making these and selling them in Japan in 1978, so there's nothing special about it. Looks like a parts car to me. You could buy a decent running example in Japan and import it to the USA for a lot less than it would cost to make this one as good............. Alan T. mrpratt
Arnie, I am not sure how you are trying to restore your 75 Z, but I had an idea with mine from this thread S30 Interior Clone examples This guy put in a 240sx dash in his Z, and I thought it looked really clean. I thought about how the 240sx guys try and make their cars RHD by doing a front clip conversion, so I started looking around. I found a RHD 240sx dash on ebay, it's pretty cheap, so if you are interested in something like that here is the eBay link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190124823746&rd=1 I don't think I am going to do it, I am going to restore the original dash myself. Tony D
"This car is a pre-production model imported from Japan. The first production model was in 1979." This is pure BS. Your car was manufactured in June/July of 1978, and federally qualifies at a 1978 model. Why do I say this? Because mine is HS130-024XX and it was produced the last half of August 1978! Though your car was reworked by someone stateside. Dash cluster, as well as rear cargo area was renovated using stateside parts. The early 280ZX's in Japan had a cover, and the fullsize spare was on the deck, beneath the cover! The interior you have in the back is 'export' specification. Fairlady Z's in the back yard now: "46"-71 Z-S (S30-062XX) "50"-76 Z-S 2/2 (GS31-XXXXXX) (Late 75 Production Time, EFI Car, Small Non-Electric Mirrors) "51"-76 Z-L 2/2 (GS31-XXXXXX) (Early 76 Production Time, EFI Car, Larger Ugly Electric Mirrors, Power Windows and A/C) "53"-78 280Z-L (HS130-0024XX) (53.8.6 Tank Code matching other dates in the assembly nothing later than 53.8.13) Mine is rougher! Does yours smell like Cat Urine? If it does, let me know what to do to get that smell out...
ArnZ
I haven't picked it up yet & I really am in no hurry. I know when I get there, I will ask myself why did I buy it. I was hoping that the floor pans and frame rails are not gone. If they are, anybody need a wing? All that crap about pre production sounded like a friend tyring to pump up the auction. I knew it was bag, I thought I was gonna get it for $99. Anybody see anything redeeming about it at all ? That Z with the 240SX looks good, but its not for me. I need a original dash, I am trying to keep my 75. kinda stock. I have the original chrome ring headlight covers, original three piece IMSA rear spoiler, original bumpers, new mesh grill, new fender mirrors, new amber tailights, etc. I am building a 3.1 with triple Webers, I have everything but the pistons. I have talked to Chet @ Sunbelt ( I drive by their shop everyday) about doing the machine work and balancing. I appreciate the info everybody
ArnZ
Well, I got the Fairlady today. The rust is bad, pans are gone battery tray is gone. Spare tire compartment is gone. Looks like a basket case. It does have a N42 head and block with a P75 intake. Anybody ever seen one of these?
Pop N Wood
Mine is rougher! Does yours smell like Cat Urine? If it does, let me know what to do to get that smell out... Not sure if you are serious or not but go to Petsmart and get a product called Simple Solution. Febreeze is also very good at getting rid of odors. ArnZ
Heres a few pics of the car and the P75 intake, it has a low VIN of 0001254.
Tony D
Yes, I was serious, kids broke out a window and a tom cat used it for a love nest, spraying liberally. It has been airing out for years, and STILL stinks like cat's p... That is an interesting intake/engine setup. The Fast Idle for the A/C is unique, and totally a different setup than my car which was less than 1000 cars later down the production line. I have a stepper motor for idle control under the T/B, and no cold-start valve. Verrrry Interesting!
