another milestone for my hybridz

Recommended Posts

passed 5000 miles since the swap without much fanfare this past tuesday. i was on my way home from a 2 day track event at watkins glen international [wgi]. cruising along the west lake road of geneva lake when the odo rolled past the 5000 mark. i smiled thinking of how much i enjoyed the challenge, all the hours spent researching [not possible without much help & info here!] and the "while i'm at it's" as well.

had a great time at wgi, over 5 hours of track time monday-tuesday. nothing broken, car ran great and proved to be a great combination of handling, braking, power and FUN! my little z runs very well with the big dogs and holds her own.

mounted the camera and captured both front & rear looking video for both days [tuesday we had rain all day]. hope to have it edited and posted in the coming weeks.

now got to get the car prepped for the convention and the loooooong drive down to daytona!

Congrats! A weekend at the track, 5hrs of track time, and 5K troublefree miles is evidence of a well sorted combo. Good job!

more video-big thanks to todd [has a slightly modded 90 z31 tt] for lending me his camcorder and editing the video. below videos are in the dry [day 1] but unfortunately i didn't remove my rear view mirror...tough to see directly behind with just the fairlady fender mirrors. working on a fix to 'shorten' the rearview for daytona. enjoy! turning-when traffic is minimal around 2:20 lap times.

I heard horse meat is a lot richer in proteins than beef... that Z of yours is sure going to grow some serious muscles, cause you ate a lot of Ford's ponies on that track LOL. Poor little Mustangs...

Is that car equipped with a Star Wars style tractor beam or what???

You're reeling them in like they where on neutral, even the Vette, GT and the KIT Cobra...

Awesome!!!!!

  • 1 month later...

did the longest road trip ever in my z since i've owned her [10/1984]. just over 2700 miles in a 1 week period. rochester, ny to daytona, fl and back. add in some hot lapping at dis [daytona intl speedway infield course], a drag strip run and auto-x'ing as well as a bit of goofing around in daytona. the z performed flawlessly! did pick up a chunk of metal in the left rear tire in gettysburg, pa, popped on the old maxima space saver spare and drove the rest of the way home [over 3 hours]. averaged around 30 mpg driving 80 mph round trip-on 87 octane pump gas. since the swap i've logged 8300 trouble free miles and can't wait to rack up some more! will have video in the coming weeks of; drag, auto-x and lapping so stay tuned!

30 miles/gallon!!! thats amazing!! mine sure doesnt get that but i guess its mostly my fault :) 1 tuff z, where did you find the intake elbow you have on there? i hate mine, its way to big a radius curve. your radiator setup is sweet too, are those the stock corvette fans? a like the duel look

thanks for the compliments, much appreciated. my final drive is a 3.9 r200 with nismo clutch lsd. quick240 and i drove down to daytona together from his place in maryland and both averaged about the same mpg-although he was running his a/c [his final drive is a 3.54 though]. we both ran pump 87 octane as well and averaged about 75-80 mph.

my intake elbow was purchased from the same place i sourced many of my swap parts [shifter, intake, plugs & wires, slp thermostat, double row timing chain, underdrive crank pulley, more] from in addition to the tuning/dyno as well. it was mike's [owns new era] that i use a tight radius-said it would provide a nice long/straight run prior to the maf sensor. additionally, he had me place the inlet air temp sensor forward of the radiator in the air cleaner housing-lower temp=better performance! linky

the radiator is custom but available for 240, 260, 280 and 280zx. simply tell him how much hp it needs to cool, diameters of inlet/outlet and viola. evilz also has one in his 240. scott from wizard was also good enough to provide custom mounts for the stock GM dual electric fans! linky

man im likeing it alot but i cant find it on the site. i guess ill just call and ask. thanks for the info. how do you like first gear with that rear bye the way? launching in first with the stock 3.36 seems too damn short sometimes

most of the time i launch in 2d, one of the reasons why i'm upgrading to the q45 diff with the 3.54 gears.

what is it that you are unable to find, perhaps i can help?
