TrumpetRhapsody
Well, even though I don't have a Z yet, I've been eyeballing turbos, and just grabbed one at (I think) a good price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230211455567&fromMakeTrack=true $250 after shipping. Based on the description of a little side to side play and 70k miles I don't think that's too bad. I can always get a rebuild kit for $70 and still be doing better than the $400 i usually see them go for. What do yall think?
Cal Poly Zmanaustin
He shoots...he scores. Definitely a great buy. Congrats.
Slow_Old_Car
I'd take a very very close look at that unit when it comes in. Looks like it was pretty rigged, and on a motor w/ a hell of alot of PCV blow by.
TrumpetRhapsody
I noticed a little of that. Think I can clean up the blades some? I don't know much about turbo internals or how fragile they are to be honest.
Slow_Old_Car
I'm sure you could wipe down the blades with a rag sprayed down with brake cleaner. Then again, i'm guessing when you get it, it will need a rebuild anyway, which if you end up sending it out to a rebuilder they will clean it anyway before rebalancing it. TrumpetRhapsody
Eh I'm going for a budget build, so I probably won't be having any/much shop work done if possible. If it ends up needing a rebuild I'll do it myself. Thanks for the brake cleaner tip, I'll give that a shot if needed. I'll post some better pics when I get it, for further analysis Still open to comments until then!
Evan Purple240zt
LOL at your turbo and no car! I bought my RB before I bought my 240sx by several months. That way I couldn't back out on the deal. Evan
TrumpetRhapsody
LOL at your turbo and no car! Yeah I consider this my "maybe a project car in college isn't such a good idea" insurance. Can't back out now, I've already got a turbo I have to do something with!
rztmartini
haha that reminds me of my friend who got a supra turbo from a friend, but doesnt have a car. haha sometimes half the fun is dreaming what that thing could go in lol. the choice that made the most sense was to slap it on a geo metro. 3 cylinders of turbocharged fury! Titus_RacerX
Listen, since you'll be need some place to store that turbo until you get your car. I have a spot under my hood next to the left fender. I promise to take care of it and you can have it back when you are ready for it.
