MazterDizazter
Hey guys, I'm trying to do an L28ET (w/ P90A head) swap into my '73 240Z. I'm on a tight budget because I'm saving up for a Z32 tranny and all the necessary swap parts. I read here (http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/cam/index.htm) that the L26 cam is the largest stock L-series camshaft. Well it just so happens that my Z has an L26 in it currently; hurray! I have to double check the head code to confirm, but I was thinking of putting that camshaft into my L28ET before installing it into the car. I assume this isn't a drop-in affair. What would I have to do to make this work? Does timing come into play?
trowa47
read about the turbo swap under the faq or search
CamH
You don't want to put this cam in your L28ET. If your L28ET really has a P90A head, you have hydraulic lifters which will not work with the L26 cam. Also the L26 cam profiles are not ideal for a turbo setup. MazterDizazter
Ahhh... good point. Looks like I'll just have to go aftermarket later on...
Administrators BRAAP Posted February 14, 2008 Administrators Share Posted February 14, 2008 (edited) There is a 50/50 chance your P-90A has the hydraulic cam. Some P-90A heads still had mechanical lifters. Click ME to see a P-90A with mechanical cam Good luck, Paul Edited August 20, 2010 by BRAAP New info suggesting other than what I orignally reported. Thumper
Also the l26 cam is externally oiled vs the internally oiled p90 cam. So you need to swap over the cam towers and oilers. But yeah not worth it.
JMortensen
You can have a cam reground for $65 from Delta. They have turbo grinds. There is no point in taking out one stock cam and putting in another as stated above, because they are all virtually identical (except the turbo).
