lurch632
hi, im trying to decide on what clutch to put into my 81 turbo 280zx. ive looked online at a few but all the options seem somewhat overwhelming. i need something that would confidently hold 400 ft lbs or so and is still decently streetable. the car will spend most of its life on the street but i plan on tracking it a couple of times a year. any suggestions or something that you guys have found is a good choice? budget isn't a huge concern but i would like to keep the costs down if possible. thanks for any help you can give me. A puck disk and stock PP would definetly do it but engaugement isn't the best. I run a 4 puck on my L28 and it holds fine. Luk makes a stiff PP (gold) that might also hold with a stock disk. I don't have first hand experience with that though.
phil280zxt
I installed an ACT Performance Street Disk in my 81 280zxt. Just barely got it broken before the car went into winter storage. NX2-HDSS is rated at 400 ft/lbs of torque. The engagement is very strong with no chatter. The engagement point point is within a few inches of the floor and does take a little while to get used to. Can't remember where I purchased it at the moment. Can't wait to take her out in a few months!!
Mayolives
Centerforce has a new DFX clutch that will hold your stated requirements. It engages smoothly and is not heavy on the foot!
datman
I use the Spec 515lb/ft 6 puck clutch. Works very well.

Pyro
nipponpower.com SPEC stage 2 (kelvar disk) is a nice clutch, takes a few hundred miles break in period to hold strong. SPEC stage 3 had too quick of engagement for a street car, so it chatters.
