MaTTSuN
well before i took my car off the road last year i was having issues with my brakes. The brake's had a very hard pedal but no modulation its like on or off This is not the way anyone would like and i was wondering if there might be something wrong in my system some where. I have all stock brakes on my 78 280z i put new pads on the front, new shoes on the rear and new wheel cylinders, hard lines on the rear as well i also put new rubber flex lines all around i bled the brakes a few time just to make sure i got everything so in the end the pedal moves down a little then its rock hard and very hard if not imposable to modulate could it be the master cylinder? or another adjustment? i really want to autoX this bad boy and the brakes are one of the last things i need to sort out thanks: Matt

Silver Mine Motors
maybe it's your brake booster i had the same problem twice. the first time i realized that the pressure pipe was not pluged into the boster and the second time the booster was just worn out. woldson
So it is not breaking well? Like there is no assist? Look for fuild where the master meets the booster. If there is fuild might have gotten in booster and that can eat the membrain in there. Of course air in the lines will give you a squishy feeling. Are the pads dragging hard? blueovalz
Wouldn't the traditional "reaction disk" issue be the misplacement of it during the booster assembly? I'm puzzled in that my assumption is that the car was driven with normal brakes, and then this problem suddenly or gradually developed "before I took" the car off the road. I agree it's a booster issue, but perhaps on the vacuum hose end (provided no work was done immediately prior to this issue developing).
