Guest binZer
Just bought a 280zxt, and am trying to sort the awful climate control out. We have replaced the vacuum hoses in the engine bay, and have narrowed the problem down to the vacuum switch (thanks to the FSM). The vacuum switch works, but it is not receiving vacuum, so the blower does not come on unless the vacuum switch is bypassed (like it is in defrost mode). If we physically suck on the hose going to the vacuum switch the blower comes on no problem. So the question is, any ideas on what might be causing a lack of vacuum to the vacuum switch? This system is extremely overwhelming and we're having a hard time troubleshooting it any further. Thanks!
nismopick
Vacuum leak. w00t!
roger.svoboda
Is the car stock? There is a vacuum pump thingy on the right fender inside the engine box to keep vacuum going when in boost. Maybe there is a hose missing there or has been taken off which happens a lot after people start working on it.
dat1gai
i had a similar issue and it was because i had a huge vaccum leak. those vaccum hoses are very old and it becomes common for them to have wear and tear
Mayolives
Some good advice above about replacing vac lines. I found a bad one under the charcoal canister that, when replaced, really helped my "extremely overwhelming," as you put it, auto climate control system. These systems can be a real head banger. BleachZee
If you give up on that system you may want to look into converting to the manual heater controls. They are much more simple and seem to work more reliably.
Brad-ManQ45
Usually, the two hoses from the vacuum canister break where they attach - there are two that go through the firewall. I have found it prudent to put some one-way valves to hold vacuum in the lines while finding the sourse of engine compartment leaks. Good advice has been given to check ALL vacuum lines! Jared
has anyone had the hoses crack under the dash and not in the engine bay?
