My first Z! 72 240z(pics)

Recommended Posts

Bought for 650$ from the 2nd owner who got it from his boss in 1980. Runs decent but needs carb work. also needs rust control ={ Ordered new front brake pads, remanufactured calipers, new brake master cylinder and new brakes hoses. what do you guys think for 650? and also does the rust look managable?

btw i have the air box off to adjust the carbs.

The car looks to be in decent shape. Best of all it only cost you $650 bones. Welcome to the sickness called Z. You will find yourself thinking about driving it, modding it, and just being with it from now on. ;)

DUnno. Why, they must know something we don't.

Yeah, It's decent for $650, Though it's got that big hole in the roof, and wow that be a big booty on that one!

The rear deck tells me it's likely got a lot more rust that your realize. You should pull up your carpets and see how your floorpans look, and like they said, look at the frame rails and below the battery. All that can be fixed. though it's a lot easier if you know how to weld, or have a friend who'll weld for you. It looks decent. You should know though, that $650 is just the start, you'll spend a lot more than that fixing her up.. Oh the good side, insurance is cheap, but you should carry Antique/Modified car insurance on it, otherwise they can total it for a bad paint scratch.

yeah i know its gonna cost alot, but i need something worthy to spend my time and money on. but yeah already got new brake pads, rotors, reman calipers, brake lines, brake master cylinder, and next is the suspension.

my dad and uncle know how to weld and my dad has a welder, so that should make body work managable.

also i forgot to mention i have a 71 240 shell at my grandmas, do you guys think i should keep the whale tail hatch or go back to stock? the whale tail is super heavy to the point where it is hard to lift the hatch.

In my opinionated view the whale tail is like a Zcar mullet. Though I was an infant at the time and really have no basis of my dislike, the tail makes me immediately think 80's and neon yellow paint (read: dates the restoration, no offense to anyone with a neon yellow whale tailed z). Looks like a perfect candidate for a carbon roof skin, and a steal at $650. Congratulations on the buy

Hahaha! +1 for going back to the stock. With only one shock on the lid you would be asking a lot of it to hold your hatch open. I've done the toyota conversion and it is well worth it, much better brakes. Mine is also a 4/72 welcome to the addiction.

Saw this car today parked at mobil while I was getting gas. Looked like it might have been broken down?

hahaha if your talking about it being parked out front of chevron in temecula then yeah thats it, but it was defiantly not broken. just got the new brakes bleed this week so now I can drive it, or I should say was driving it till the radiator blew when I got home tonight

oh well it needed to be done anyways.......

btw were you the one with the red/orange 240? i see that car and my jaw drops every single time.
