neotech84
Check out this CL Mercedes done MOSTLY in spray foam!! http://englishrussia.com/?p=1949 Not sure if a thread is out there in some forum devoted to the build but this site has most of the body work shown in pics. I give him props for his design. but some of the style needs work..... like the buck tooth grill..... and enormous wheels. Just a few preview pics. icapture
Thats pretty crazy I must say. Ive always found the guys who shape concept cars out of clay amazing. So this is right up my alley.
SCLOBERNOCKER47
I actually dig the grill. Kind of a throwback to the early 40s. Hate to get hit with all that foam though...
GrenadeZ
WOOWW! yea. I dont know too much about foam or glass but will this design hold up in ten years? or will it start to crack and fall apart every where
neotech84
Not sure...... but I bet he could use it as a raft if it starts to crack........
240z8
I was about to type repost, but then I remembered I had seen it on englishrussia.com too a few months back. That does look pretty sick though.
zuum
Yep, thats how they fix wrecked cars before selling them too!
kiwi303
I wonder if it stayed foam, or if he used the foam as a plug to make a mould and than made a fibreglass shell from that after removing all the bodywork and foam. It would be a lot lighter if the foam and steel panels are ditched and just a glass shell used.
Trevor
He left the foam, cardboard, and inch-thick bondo in there. On a humid day the car doubles in weight as is absorbs water like a sponge....
75&78Z
"Hate to get hit with all that foam though..." Naw this is probibly one of the safest cars in the world. Foam = energy absorber.... kinda like a giant bike helmet.
AkumaNoZeta
30" Chrome? Really? Oh well, to each their own. I wonder how far off that speedo is, lol.
ruleofthez
Yea I remember seeing that a while back but not on this site. Cool that he went through all that work but certainly not an attractive car. He actually used a two part pour foam for most of the car. That stuff is much much better then the spray foam you find at places like home depot. I should have some in progress pics from my mr2 and 240sx where I used a similar process.
