If you are buying it to make it a project car, you need to think about how much more money you will need to sink in to it, and then triple that amount. Then, you will see how much money you are really spending on the car. Think of that 500 as a down payment... and the rest of what you will be spending for the next several years to fix it up as the monthly payments! If you're looking for a project car I would think that in your part of the country you could find a virtually rust free shell within reasonable driving distance.
