blackice280zxt
i know this dosnt help you much but im in western australia and it took me 10yrs to find 2 1979 280zx 2+2s...the reason being is in these cars i an exempt from australian design rules meaning i can legally modify my vehicle in any way (minus nos) id like...i bought the both of them for 1500 auzzie dollars...one had been converted to a l20 the other a n42...in one rear compartment was 1 and a half entire rebuild kits...one had rusted out the entire left hand chassis rail the other only needed a decent paint job so, i built a good one out of them,i mainly used rb30 parts on the external side of the motor (injectors, fuel regulator, fuelpump, blow by valve etc etc)i or others could not believe how good it ran...everything in the motor was standard and i recieved 2nd place in a rally(i was beaten by a wrx imprezza) what im trying to say is you dont have to spend 5k to build a reasonable car you just need to be somewhat mechanically minded and trial an error(inexpensivly) and even though people told me i was wasting my time on the heap of s#*t when they got in the passengers side of it they got out looking pastier than a white crayon and were dissapointed i wouldnt let them drive it so chin up and have fun doing it lifes only as hard as you make it well put

But i am keeping the image of this car finished in my mind. My kids are almost all raised and my 12yr old daughter is fascinated with this project. she helped me strip the interior and was asking 10,000 questions about everything. I plan on making a very fast street rod that in the end will be very different from any 280zx i have seen. We have several VERY LARGE car shows in my region and i picture the car with the digital photo album laid out and people walking by and going "what the heck???" spent the last 25yrs doing everyting for everybody else..now it's my turn. If I knew a good artist I would have a rendering drawn up and framed in my shop. I have learned alot in the last few days on here and am excited to learn ALOT more. Marine1342
These cars will discourage everyone at some point or another. But keep at it, lay out your dream car in writing, (looks, mods etc.) and keep working at it. And remember it's YOUR project, that YOU are building, for YOURSELF. Gollum
These cars will discourage everyone at some point or another. Yea, usually when you see it next to a S30... (I mean this all in good fun obviously) As others have said, stay away from aftermarket body panels. You'd be amazed at how similar the 2+2's and 2 seaters are though. They share probably at least 90% of their parts. Basically EVERYTHING from the firewall forward is identical. Everything from behind the door is identical other than a few select parts like corner windows. They basically just stretched it a bit and changed as little as possible to accommodate. Good luck with the project though! These can be fun cars. They just need a good EFI system and some weight reduction really. Oh, good tires and maybe some stiffer springs go a long way. hunterzed
Basically what it comes down to is how you want to enjoy the drive. Modify you car enough to enjoy it. Some people enjoy the modifying. Driving a zed is like marial arts or boxing. Drag racing is like heavy weight boxing. They can pack a good punch but can't do it for long distances and don't really have the agility. Track racing is like kick boxing. The matches can go for a long time with competitors dancing around each other waiting for a chance to pounce. Cruising is like Tia chi, You know they have the moves but they prefer to use them for inner peace and harmony rather than competing with others. Ahh. I feel so zen right now. haha. kelltainer
Hey I am parting out a 2+2....I have lots and lots of stuff from it. I bought it for only a few parts and now I am stripping it. Let me know what you need and if you buy a bunch it will be cheaper on the shipping. I will also posting everything up on craigslist.
