johnc
I did a quick check of this forum and I didn't see any posts regarding this car. Its a 6L LS2 powered Z32 that runs SCCA ITE. I see it and talk with Joe every weekend I'm out doing tech at the Cal Club SCCA races. http://unclejoe.com/racing/300zx.htm
David K
Didnt see you around, John. I was there Sat and Sun with the usual suspect, you know who.
dts300z
Sweet! Maybe he can post up some pictures of his swap. I know I would love to check it out.
johnc
I was over at the tech trailer all weekend.
unclejoe666
Looks like I'm going to roll that car right over in that corner - bad Joe! Build/fotos later: do have some spare parts tho: http://unclejoe.com/300zxParts.htm
johnc
Let's see, stated weight of the car on Uncle Joe's page is: 2,760. Actual weight with driver as it went over the scales: ?????
unclejoe666
dry weight is now a couple ticks above 2,800 (added more roll cage last Fall) - tech weight (w/XXL driver) and w/5-6 gallons of gas was 3,120-ish...
Administrators BRAAP Posted January 28, 2010 Administrators Share Posted January 28, 2010 Very nice, welcome to HybridZ. Good to see an LSx powered Z-32 on the forum. Looking forward to seeing a detailed write up with pics of the build, maybe in the "Members Projects/Z32" section? .. hint hint..
mark
I would love a peak underneath that car.
johnc
It sounds nice, especially at Cal Speedway with the exhaust echoing off the empty front straight grandstands.
mark
That's one of the things I'd like to see. I noticed the side exit exhaust.
unclejoe666
Early stuff: boxed framework, roll cage, air extractors (so fans aren't necessary when on track), engine placement (no short headers can beat stock LS2 exhaust manifolds - and no room for longtube headers)
unclejoe666
oops - only 2 fotos at a time, I guess

David K
The car is damn nice, sounds damn good, and has a damn good driver. Although, that pesky truck gave ya a run for your money haha.
unclejoe666
Dude! 10 seconds a lap faster!! No wonder those GT cars didn't show up on Sunday!!! Now if that damn truck driver would slow down, we could have some fun ;] Great stuff Ken!
dts300z
Me Likes! Great work!
JMortensen
That is a very serious Z32. Joe, do you do your own fab work, or are you having this all of this work done somewhere for you? Very nice job on the radiator ducting. Curious to know what happened to your lap times vs the VG30 as well.
unclejoe666
Jim Sleeper did the design & fab - he specializes in suspensions & hot rods, but has a serious road racing background... been working together 10 years or so, and once he had the old chassis dialed in, we didn't have the hp or torque to take advantage of the handling. LS2 w/Tremec weighs same as VG30 w/trans & in doubling the hp & torque, we needed to stiffen up the chassis more. Always been on top of safety (Hans, etc), but since flirting w/170mph off turn 2 @CalSpdway, we upgraded roll cage/seat/etc. Ducting works great - ran Buttonwillow in 112-115 degree heat, didn't need fan on track :] Also, Chevy ECU much easier to work with than Nissan! Focused on dif now.
