jacob80
Hey guys, I'm sure this will mostly personal preference, but what is a good sized wheel/tire combonation for an S30? We just picked up a set of Konig 14x7 Rewinds with 205/55/14 Nitto NT01 slicks. Will this be enough for a track wheel? Thanks!
palauoriginal
hp would be a factor no?
jacob80
Let's say, for instance, 300hp.
JMortensen
Way too small for 300 hp. I had trouble putting down the power at autox with 205/55/14's when I was making probably 170whp.
jacob80
what size of tire would you use on a 14x7 as an alternative?
tube80z
Nothing. 14x7 is an oddball and you'd be better moving to a larger diameter that has a better tire offering. As OEMs keep going bigger the sixes for our older cars are getting much smaller. Cary
jacob80
Well that's no good, I just picked up a set of Konig Rewinds 14x7s at track wheel with the tires I listed...damn.
roger280zx
You can still get plenty of slicks in 14in sizes. I would recomend 205, but you may like 225 better. I'm sticking with 205/55/14 on my 14x7 ssr's.
johnc
Well that's no good, I just picked up a set of Konig Rewinds 14x7s at track wheel with the tires I listed...damn. 225/50-14. Hankook Ventus Z214, Hoosier A6/R6, and Kumho V710. All will work on your 14 x 7 rims and will give pretty good (not great) traction at 300hp if you have a good LSD and good shocks. Lots of Vintage road race S30 guys have run those tires in that size with 250 to 300hp.
jacob80
Alright, well it sounds like they'll work, but just barely. Thankfully I have an LSD and coilovers so that's my saving grace!

jacob80
Tokico Illuminas with Eibach springs on ground control coilovers.
Daphur280
What spring rate?
johnc
The Tokico Illuminas probably have too much compression damping and will work the tires hard. It will be important to run them as soft as possible while still having enough rebound control.
