OniZ
I found a lsd in the junkyard and the spot it is in is a pain to remove. I was wondering if it is possible to just take the spider gears and install them in the diff i have now. Does anyone know if the internals are the same or different? I have the r200 now but it's an open diff. oh and i also have a 240z

Endure the pain and get the whole unit out from under the Z31.

Pharaohabq
Not usually, I think the Spline counts are different.
OniZ
what parts will i need if i have to change to the cv style then?
B00STDZ
Not usually, I think the Spline counts are different. Na, pharaoh knows not the truth... I have 280z stub axles/half shafts in my z31 r200. fits perfect. cheaper too...
Pharaohabq
Oh? That's news to me, I'd thought the Z31 LSD's used the higher # of splines, but I just re-read my notes and it seems it's the R180 that has different splines than the R200's that includes the Z31. So yeah, my bad.
BLOZ UP
The 88 Z31 SS had a VLSD with different spline counts. All other 87-89 Turbos had a CLSD with the 280Z R200 spline counts, IIRC.
JMortensen
Yes, the 280Z stub shafts work with 240-280ZX, 510 and probably some other U jointed halfshafts. The problem for the OP is he has a 240, so he won't have those stub shafts to use, unless someone else already installed an R200 in his car. The yoke is also different, so his driveshaft won't line up. I put a list of parts needed in my big sticky diff post.
OniZ
i have a r200 with the stubs that fit all of my factory set up and i have the correct phlange to swap for the driveshaft too
