  1. Too stupid a question I gather? My thinking was the gasket would save me here.
  2. I recently warped the P90 on my car. There is a P79 for sale in my area. Will my turbo exhaust manifold bold well to this head being that it has the diamond exhaust ports and not the square ones? Thanks guys. And gals!
  3. I have a stock 83et setup in my '71; it thrashed my four speed. At that time I was also using a stock clutch, which did not hold well either. I put in a five speed and dual friction center force clutch and it's been solid for the last two years. I was going to go ATC but got a better deal on Centerforce at that time. As you know any advice you get here will serve you well.
  4. yeah, its lightend

  5. Nice! I was hoping for a sub 14s result if for nothing more an ego boost. Thanks. And it just confirms what I already knew, that Z's are badass. Yours is the 260z, so the 240z would probably be faster yet?
  6. I'm running a 5-speed out of a '76 with a dual-friction center force clutch in my '71 Z. The transmission feels similar to my 4-speed, but with one more gear. I have 15" Konigs and the eibach lowering springs, and the motor is the '83 turbo into 3in straight exhaust all the way back. The ecu is stock too. Anyone think my car is capable of running below 14 seconds in the quarter. Any thoughts on rear wheel hp? I've out accelerated the 350z on the highway, and that car supposed to run sub 14s. Just wondering for fun.
  7. When I bought my 83et motor three years ago it had 120,xxx miles on it. The turbo is a t3. The turbine had a little play in it, but since then I have had not one problem with the turbo or motor. I just change the oil regularly with conventional and run it hard.

    fast z

    Wow. Just wow.
  9. My car fell flat while driving to Texas form California. The screw that holds my distributor to the spinning cam came loose. I put it back and kept driving. Hope this helps.
  10. When I was running SU's on my L24 I advanced the timing as much as I could, then backed off on the idle via carbs. This did give my some more push at the top end.
  11. That's kind of my feeling too. Alright, thanks enough. Now after a v8 swap I'll feel like a Hybridz pro!
  12. It will not hurt to check, clean and add dielectric grease on all sensor connection. These wires and connectors get brittle and worn. If there is a loss of voltage the car will run poopy. Also, those wires to the injectors are pretty thin, did you get a good connection. Another, thing as the motor warms there is more potential for the injectors to leak. You could let your car warm completely, and with the hood open rev the throttle up and check to see if any other injector leak. $.02
  13. My buddy recently picked up an automatic '77 280z for $2000. I've been into Z's for years now and this is the best deal I've seen. The body and interior are nearly perfect and the engine ran flawless from Santa Barbara, Ca to Austin, Tx and back. Anyway, all this dude wants, against my advice that is, is to have this Z burn rubber; he's the showboat type. Now I've done the l28et into my 240z swap, and of course it will spin the tires, it's got a standard tranny. My question here is, keep in mind all this mug wants to do is burn rubber from a stop, is the l28et going to cut it for this guy, or should work on doing the Chevy/350 hydromatic for off the line, tire burning torque? I prefer to do the turbo swap because I have the know how, however it just does not seem like it has the grunt for the heavier '77 body to produce smoke. And we're not interested in a serious turbo swap, it'd be more of a stock with no more than 11-15psi. Does anyone here have a turbo, auto Z that'll roast the tires without powerbraking?
  14. I think I may have to cut the hood. I replaced the hood latch cable with a brake cable from a bike, closed the hood and now it WILL NOT open. I mean I strained my forearms pulling on that damn cable to try and open the hood and it will not budge. And to boot my battery terminal is corroded, so when I went to the store earlier and did not get a good connection to the battery my car would not start. The damn car is sitting in a lot. Frustrating to all hell:bonk: Any outstanding ideas here?
  15. Hey I too will be moving to Austin from Santa Barbara, Ca. I've logged into http://www.czot.org/forum/index.php This may help you. My name there is jessz. I have a first post called "new to Texas," under the Meet and Greet/introductions blog. Maybe I'll Z'ya around. Good luck, jesse:mrgreen:
  16. If this is a L28et swap into the 240z, make sure the ignitor on the coil bracket is grounded to paintless metal on the fender.
  17. Well i have a non-working 4-speed that you can for free. I'm in Santa Barbara. Just throwing it out there.
  18. You guys are bad azz. Thanks again for the advice. Wow! Freaking Texas, man. Someone told me to wash the hippie off before crossing the state line. What the hell am I doing!!?
  19. Hey all. I really just want many opinions here. I am moving from California to Texas next month with my 240zet. Thanks to Hybridz I built a fast, badass 240z. Here's the deal: It's the stock L28et and I sprayed it with Simple Green to check for leaks and the such, and on cylinder 3 at the head gasket there is an ever so small water leak. I mean when I press on the gasket with my finger I can see a bit of saturation and there is a bit of water residue between the head and the block. I think this is the beginning of a gasket failure, but am I just being too paranoid here? When I say it's small leak, I mean a very small leak. Thoughts please. I love my Z and want to keep her running and looking pretty, but am tight for cash. Think she'll make it through the trip?
  20. Correction. It's not Socal, it's Cencal:biggrin:
  21. Hey thanks Jon. How's it rollin?
  22. So I bought my early '71Z about 7 years ago. Before I had it I had a nice '69 Camaro, but always liked the 240's much more. I bought the car stock for $4500. It has little rust on the bottom of the passenger fender and a little where the rear hatch closes onto the body. Other than that it's clean. After about a year of getting schooled on Hybridz, I decided to turbo the car, as the N/A power that I wanted was beyond my budget at the time. I ended up piecing out the L24 and replaced that motor with a complete stock L28et setup that was 120,000 old for $450. I'm getting ready to go MSII/painless wiring soon. I have also put a 5-speed in it, Eibach springs, KYB's and an after market sway bar up front. She runs awesome and is my reliable daily driver. Anyway, I thought I'd post my first picture. I played around with photoshop a little, but here she is.
