    Type R?

I've been downloading some videos off the internet lately and I came across a few Japanese Best Motoring ones I think. I have one on the final lap of a five lap race and its an Integra R and RX-7 (3rd gen) going head to head at the end. The Integra was desperately trying to hold the Mazda off, but to no avail down the last straight. Don't doubt those little Integra Type R's for one moment. They may not have the torque for the 1/4 mile, don't be suprised seeing one speed through the twisties like nothin'.
  2. I'm sitting here looking at the news section of the January 2003 Automobile magazine. It says that GM is going to have a 4.4L 285hp quad cam V8 in the new Pontiac Bonneville GXP. It also has a thing about the new Saturn Ion "Tuner" with its 2.2L Ecotec engine making more than 200Hp. Can anyone smell some new ideas for swaps? I say a the new 4.4L with twin turbos. Anyways, it looks like American automakers may be getting back into the swing of things with performance. Oh, and the LS6 is supposedly going into the Cadillac CTS V-series with close to 400HP. Means more LS6s to be had. Just a tid bit of information I want to share. I'm going to put this in the anouncments to so everyone can see it.
  3. All I can say is Magnaflow. I've heard good things about these mufflers. Not very expensive and sound awesome. Use a straight flow through up front and another in the rear. Normally they are very quiet at idle and open up at the top end. I think with the extra up front it would definitely help a little with the upper RPM noise. I'm just biased against most of the Edelbrock and Flowmaster mufflers. Not straight through design and others tend to place the louvered baffling in the way which disrupts air flow.
  4. I just wanted to throw up an idea here. I'm not sure about the weight or modifications needed, but what about an ECOTEC 2.4L (I think that is the displacement) 4 cyl out Cavaliers. They are making huge amounts of power down the strip and still holding up. Maybe a little help with this one. I haven't done all the research on it. Just throwin' and idea out there.
  5. I tried a Steeda in a 99 Cobra I think it was. It worked alright. Much better than stock. If you are really looking for a nice piece get the Pro 5.0 shifter. My dad put it in his 03 Cobra and it works awesome. Definitely smoother and quicker than the Steeda IMHO. Anyways, just my 2 cents.
  6. I don't think this thread will ever die. Small displacement V8s rule.
  7. The Nissan 5 spd, as I've been told by a tranny proffesional, weighs in at 84lbs dry.
  8. I thought CART had put some sort of freeze on the engines for a year or something of the sort. Originally they were going to go to NA V8s that were compatible with IRL, so they could easily/cheaply interchange between the two. I think its a shame that CART has been so poorly run in the last few years that it has to resort to dealing with the IRL. I'm not a big fan of oval racing. Anyways, sorry for ranting, but turbos rule.
  9. A lot of the FI people will wire in secondary injectors. I'm guessing this is really only useful on a turbo. Does it work with the nitrous? They program them in to come on under WOT, throttle point, etc... I'm not an expert, so don't quote me on this. I know the rotary guys use this a lot too for the demands of fuel for a big turbo. Anyways, just a thought.
  10. I remember reading some news threads for F1. They were saying something about a new trick or material was being banned every year. Anyways, thanks for the info. Oh, that's why I love CART. One of the few left using turbos. Anyways, thanks for the info.
  11. Isn't the new Skyline going to have a V8? I can imagine that it will have a 6 speed too. I have heard rumors that we may be getting the famous Skyline under the Infiniti badge (just like NSX under Acura) in America. Something to chew on.
  12. Man, you guys know quite a bit. Some amazing stuff is be put on this discussion board. Anyways, please let me now if I'm wrong, but didn't the F1 guys used to use turbo 4 cylinder engines making huge amounts of power. I thought they reved up quick and made mucho power. Could it be that with the introduction of higher strength metals that they went to more and more cylinders? Easier to make more power? Thanks for all the information you guys are pouring out onto the pages here. Thanks again.
  13. What color is that in the engine bay? How long did that take to prep and do? Anyways, looks really awesome. I hope I will be able to do have that quality job in four years with mine. Oh, if you find the brand of the graphite can paint, let us know.
  14. What about the new AEM engine management system that they've been promoting. I don't know all the features, but it is expandable. I've had my heart set on the TEC 2 or 3. I've heard good things about the AEM system, but that may have been from the uneducated. Anyways, just a thought.

    CA smog law

Well, that killed my buzz. I was hoping I could do some more obscure hybridz with the 280s in the future. Hopefully CARB doesn't get it passed. The stuff I want to swap is probably better for the environment anyways - with the exception of the rotary idea - , as they are all newer motors.
  16. I second the dry ice bomb. Not very much for the dry ice. Set up three of those things and you'll be amazed if you have any hearing left. If want more bang, use a gatorade bottle. A little harder to punch a hole out of. Anyways, have fun.
  17. Thanks a lot for the info. I'm going to start hitting the junk yards in Rancho Cordova to get a part collection going for the 240 build up. Thanks again.
  18. I apologize. I didn't want to make it seem that it worked just like nitrous. I recognize that propane is not an oxidizer. I just wanted to say that the power added with the propane was significant as it is with nitrous applications.
  19. From the things that I've been hearing lately from Mazda, supposedly there will be some new parts to enhance the durability of the rotary. With the all the research and developement put into the on coming RX-8 there better be some new stuff for the older rotary. I guess the RX-8's got a two rotor too, but puts out somewhere in the neighborhood of 250hp. It also has some new apex seals that extend the life of the engine greatly. I've heard other companies using the information to create new apex seals for the 13b. This is only hearsay, but I'm pretty sure a little research should find some more information. Anyways, just wanted to say that with a few new things the 13b or 20b? or 20c? (can't remeber) can be made into a much more durable engine.

    CA smog law

Basically, I just found out that starting Jan 1st of 2003 any car 30 years or older is basically smog exempt. That's in a few years, your 260s and 280 will be exempt too. Anyways, here's a link that just gave a basic overview. click here
  21. Eventually I want to do a V8, but I need to replace the radiator pretty soon. Much sooner than the V8 going in. Anyways, any suggestions. I thought about getting a Griffin or another popular brand. I know a little bit about the subject, but not enough to make a good decision. Anyways thanks for all your help so far with everything.
  22. I will have to see about those air horns. Thanks for the help so far. I was also wondering if the 9MPG that I'm getting is any real indication of anything specifically wrong. Thanks though.
  23. There was something MotorTrend a while back about a company that destroked the LS1s and LT1s to roughly a 302. I think they just had one Camero that was in the article. If I can find what company did it, you may be able to call and find out how they did it. Try searching google.com for "destroking LT1 or LS1"
  24. I don't know about selling them just yet. If I can find a set of shorties I might. I may just have to cut the inner bracket on the K&N housing to fit the horns in there. I wouldn't know if they'd do much good anyways, because there is so little room between to opening of the horn and the plate on the filter.
  25. I apologize, I got so caught up writing up my problems, I forgot to mention that they are triple Mikuni's. I'm still pretty sure they are 40mm. Thanks for all the help so far. Oh, it does bog when the gas peddle is depressed at low speed and low RPMs.
