  1. I was shocked when I started to read about it. Just the dragging of the feet and reluctance to do anything bugged me big time. Not only that, but President Clinton a few months before promised to never let another Holocaust happen again. The fact of the matter was that a genocide did occur, and people died at 5 times the rate of those in the Holocaust. Another thing that really bugs me about politicians and the U.N. It seems like only their country's lives are worth anything. Nobody else matters what-so-ever.
  2. I can't believe someone, let alone a professor, would say that they wish a million Mogadishu's upon the young men fight over their. I'm not a supporter of the war, but I am a supporter of the troops. Its not the troops doing the bad thing here IMO, but the leaders. It just bugs me that someone could wish that many American men and women would die. Just wishing that upon any people is wrong. UGGHHHH!!!! If I were to find one of those professors, they would not hear the end of it.
  3. You do have to admit that Jesse James is a sort of idiot sevant, if you will, when it comes to building things. Just to come up with some of the things he does is amazing. Anyways, just my 2 cents (If I add up all the times I put my 2 cents in, this site would be rich.)
  4. I'm not any big hurry at all, but I was really interested over those of Arizona Z car. Problem is, I'm still paying my parents off for those PDK strut braces and a few other things. It really sucks being able to only work 20 hrs a week, because of school. Education is important though. Anywho, if you are still doing them on a case by case basis, I'd love to find out if you'd have time to do a set down the road.
  5. Man, I love this board. Once I get my check card, guess who's getting a donation? Speaking of money and all, I was wondering Mike Kelly if and/or when you are going to start doing the suspension stuff again? I've been reading posts about the garage getting off the ground, but I didn't know if that had anything with ZF Racing. Anyway, I wanted to thank you guys for keeping it civil. I really enjoy these political conversations, but I always try to keep in mind that these are only conversations. I bet the front lines are infinitely different than what we think. Thanks again for all the things that this forum has supplied me with.
  6. I saw that guy with the Diablo come into my Starbucks and on the street a few times. He had his three year old in a booster seat running passenger. I know that's dangerous and all, but how cool is it to say you got to ride around in your father's Diablo when you were little. Anyway, the one time we were on the street and we saw him, my dad and I were in the Cobra. Too bad my dad didn't have it in first (Don't ask, he managed to have it in 3rd. I still say I'm the better driver of the family), because we could've had a go at it. The guy actually dumped the clutch a little and took off. I prefer flat-crank Ferrari sound (Don't know if Lambo makes a flat-crank though.). Anywho, I think the guy lives on the border of Concord and Walnut Creek. If I get my real-estate license (I'm hoping, because I don't mind taking money from the rich) I may find out were a lot of these cars are in the area, not to mention I'll have money to beat them with my Z.
  7. I don't know of the link any more, but that CRX with that V8 you speak of is something else. They guy retained the stock front end; motor and everything. He then proceeded to replace the whole rear end with tube sections (don't know on this one) and a blown olds V8. He had a flip down gas pedal and a seperate electrical start up circuit for the rear motor. When someone would rev on this little thing, (it wasn't the 2nd gen CRX, it was the first, which is even more of a sleeper) he'd flip down the second gas pedal, and fire the Olds up. He wasn't running an exhaust either, so I'm sure the open headers were a dead give-away. Not sure if anyone would believe it though. Anywho, I'll look for that link. Beware of any 1st gen CRX's with a little metal showing were the trunk/storage area should be.
  8. I play a little bit of devil's advocate in all this. I tend to overplay my side of things to see if I can make the other side think a little more (Not sure if there really are sides). Usually I get the "screw you" attitude, but here it is very different. I commend that. I do agree that the outcome of all this could be very good. The Iraqi people could be liberated and oil prices may come down. (I'm a little split on oil prices though. Part of me wishes they would come way down for the Z. The other part of me wants them to skyrocket so automotive companies are forced to create more fuel efficient and cleaner running vehicles. Toyota is coming out with the RX330. Keep your eye on that one.) I do hope for the best in Iraq, but I fear the worst. This may have opened up a whole can of worms that we haven't even seen the start of yet. We have helped many areas of the world, but it seems like we only hold true when it suits those in power. As my IR instructor put it, "This isn't a war of the people of Iraq and the people of the U.S. This a war between two elite with a lot to gain and little to lose." Of course this isn't exactly true. Saddam could lose his life (don't think we are going to find him), but Bush is definitely not going to lose his. If it were up to the people of Iraq and the people of the U.S. I think we wouldn't have a problem. An Iraqi auto mechanic probably has no beef with an American auto mechanic. Sorry to get a little abstract, but it made a little sense of the situation. I do agree that Saddam must be removed, and if now is the time, now is the time. I do not want to see U.S. foreign policy stop at this. We must cut ties to all those regimes that oppress their people and support terrorism. I don't like hypocracy one bit. If this a foreign policy that the people want than it must be something that is stuck with for the years to come. Problem is, I see these things about Iraqi liberation and such as only rhetoric. I think there are hidden reasons that we won't see for years to come. Maybe for decades, because Bush just had some classified information acts. Those acts supposedly push the release date of that classified info back years and years. Now why would you wanna do a thing like that? I'm just like anyone else though. I'm looking for answers. I want the best for the United States. I don't think is in our best interest for national security, although it may have a beneficial impact on the humanitarian effort in Iraq. Hopefully we get the truth (I'm a little skeptical about the U.S. media at the moment. You never know what the owners of these media conglomerates interests are. You will never hear anything about GE pollution the Mississippi on NBC, because they own it.) and can help make educated decisions when we go to vote.
  9. That is highly untrue. The Saudis support the Wahabbi extremists which sent 15 of there men flying into the towers on 9/11. Yet why do we still send them aid? Why haven't we removed them from power? There are many others who equal or even worse in their actions than Saddam. When the president says we are removing Saddam, because he's an evil man, I wonder why others haven't been removed. If this is a foreign policy that we are going to follow, it better be pushed all the way throughout the nation. Then again, that's like pointing a gun at someone and telling them to be a democracy. A little hypocritical, isn't it? We need to support our troops. They are already in the thick of it and need all the help they can get. Don't get me started on our president though. I didn't vote for him, so I offer very little support to him through this endeavor. The election was a joke too, but that is beside the point at the moment. I do not buy the reasons given for "why now?" They don't fit with the actions taken by our government or the policies that were and have been implemented. There is a difference between actions and rhetoric.
  10. Why not now? People's lives are going to be lost, and already have, because of this. Ours are minimal, but I still worry about the Iraqi civilians. I very much do commend our government's efforts to minimize civilian casualities. If you look at the last time we were in the Persian Gulf, there was a ton of talk about how accurate our smart bombs were and how few civilian lives were lost. Reports are now coming out about how many times those missles missed their targets. Going back to my terrorism argument, that is an excellent reason for why not now. This is only going to fuel the hatred among those terrorists groups. I hope that we will not see another 9/11, but I fear we will and it will be much, much worse. That's why not. War is not something that should be tossed in the why not category. That's irresponsible and lacks any sort of reasoning. Until all the possibilities have been exhausted, war is not an option. Oh, forgot to add something. If the CIA knew about plans for Saddam to use those weapons over here, don't you think they would have at least hinted at that. If they were going to go through this no matter what, than this was the time of the year to do it. Its already 80+ degrees over there. Saddam wouldn't be one to place attacks on America, direct or indirect. He's a self-preservationist. He wants to stay in power for the power. He's not going to do put that in question. Iraq and the surrounding areas have a lot of history behind them, that I'm not even sure I can understand. It is complicated and there is no simple answer. War isn't that answer.
  11. We've known that Saddam has had those weapons for years. We knew he was a bad man after he released those weapons on his own people. Why now? What is so important now. The terrorism remark won't work with me either, because even if he was giving weapons to those groups it won't solve the problem. Those groups will go elsewhere. Can anyone answer "Why now?" Bush has put himself in Iraq. He didn't need to be so quick to act (That is assuming that there is no piece of incriminating evidence against Saddam that requires quick action. All the stuff that Gen. Powell presented the UN was nothing that no one didn't already know. In fact, I'm confident to say that Saddam has chemical weapons.). Bush and is administration could have lobbied for more political support in the UN and elsewhere and not necessarily for war either. Again, if we are to follow this policy of removing regimes, why isn't this policy followed elsewhere? As to my comment about Afghanistan, I just wanted to say that it is still a mess and we cannot lose focus there. If we leave it as is, you're going to have another Taliban in 10 years. I'm not asking for these things to change overnight. I wouldn't expect that to happen. I just want to make sure those areas are taken care of and built properly. You are right, it is much better over there than it was before we came.
  12. I was not throwing around accusations about who the U.S. has put in power or who they are currently supporting. These are facts that I believe you can find on our country's national defense website. Sometime during the 70s our government helped to put Saddam in power. He's an evil man that tortures and oppresses his people. The government has known that for years and it became even more apparent after he unleashed bio/chem weapons on his people (some of which we gave him during the Iran/Iraq conflict during the 80s). My biggest question about all of this is "Why now?" Why is it so important now? The government has known that he's been an evil man for years, but why now? I fully agree that he should have been removed long ago, or never even have been put in power. Maybe Bush and his cabinet know something we don't. Some piece of intelligence showing that Saddam is planning something. It is our job as American's to ask why though. The minute you start to believe completely in your leaders is the minute you get burned. That was the sort of thing that happened in Germany and Russia years ago. Anyways, I just have a hard time believing that we are over their to remove Saddam, because he's a bad guy. If that was true, he should have been gone long ago (Then again, administrations change throughout the years. Maybe this is a start of a much better humanitarian foreign policy). This seems more like rhetoric than anything else. If, as a country, our policy was to remove oppressive regimes and install democracy, than why isn't there a plan to deal with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and many countries in Latin America? Maybe I'm wrong and those are next. Just to remind everyone who thinks I hate this country, that thought is far from the truth. This is one of the best places in the world. There aren't too many other countries where I could be typing this. I believe that if you truly have an interest in your country's actions, than you will pay attention and speak up when something doesn't seem right to you. I think the founding fathers of this nation designed it that way.
  13. That happened last night too. My friend called me from there and to let me know that some guy spun his Z06 and did something like $10,000 worth of damage. My first question was if he'd be willing to give it up if the insurance wanted to total it. First dibs on the motor. As to the Cobra. A simple Kenne Bell supercharger change and you're over 500HP. That's not even changing out the intake or anything else. Can't wait until the warranty is up. Talked my dad into lots of parts. Gonna be a little scary with that much power. Anywho, I feel the performance potential vs that of the Vette is much greater for the average hobbyist. When you get into full blown racing, I'm not sure. The Vette dominates the Vipers while the Mustang sits on the sidelines. Maybe this next year someone like Ken Brown will launch a new effort. Who knows.
  14. This is my paper on Rwanda. I apologize for the disconnected ending when relating international relations theory to the history, but I couldn't get it right. Anwho, here it is. Paper
  15. The terrorism problem and part of the economy is not really his fault. Iraq is his doing. He restarted this and it will be his undoing. He looks to be handling everything well, but check out some other sources of news other than US media to get the whole story. Afghanistan is a mess and he has yet to do anything to boost the economy and no, tax cuts aren't the answer.
  16. I felt the need to chime in here. I'm taking an international relations class right now and it has gotten really interesting. I definitely have learned a lot. Well, here it goes. First, for those of you that claim we are over there solely for Iraqi liberation, look at the facts. We've supported oppresive regimes around the world as long as they go along with our policies. Who put Saddam in power? Who supported him for years while killied his own people? Who gave him the weapons and technology to do most of this? As long as he did what our government said, it kept feeding him weapons and money. I find this rather unerving that we only gave him a slap on the wrist after he released those weapons on his own people. This also hold true for the regimes in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Taliban in Afghanistan, etc... Don't forget that the U.S. also trained Osama and many others. Its a lovely idea that the Iraqi's will be free and operate under a demcratic government after this is all over. I'm all for it, but I don't think this the number one reason we're over there. Seems more like rhetoric than an actual objective when looking at our track record over the years. Then again, I truly hope the people there will lead better lives after all this is over. I highly doubt it though. Now, for those of you arguing this is part of the fight against terrorism, why are we still supporting the Saudis? How many Saudis were on those planes during the 9/11 attacks? 15. 15 is a lot. If you look, you can trace that back to the Wahabbi extremists operating under the Saudi royal family. This extremist sect of Islam funds poor areas of the surrounding region and draws in those that have very little. Someone with no money, no food, barely getting by is most definitely going to join a group that will feed and teach him. They claim to train these men in the Koran and teach them to read, yet those newly founded members are often sent to military camps for weapons and battle strategy training. It truely doesn't matter who gives these terrorist weapons, because if Iraq didn't somone else will. I have yet to see in damning evidence against Iraq stating they have given weapons to any terrorist. When I do, I will eat by words. Back to my point though. Get to this terrorism by getting to the root of the problem and Iraq isn't. I say start giving aid and teaching these extremely poor areas in northern Africa and other regions surrounding Saudi Arabia. People that have food and are educated will be much less likely to join these extremists groups. Push this education closer and closer to Saudi land, eventually eliminating the problem. Now for the oil for blood problem. I do believe oil is part of the plan. Look what companies were awarded contracts for oil operations in Iraq. They are subsidiary companies of Halliburton. Guess Dick Cheney still has a little interest in making sure his old company gets the goods. For those of who want to take a look at the wonderful things Halliburton and Cheney have done, check out this link: http://www.corpwatch.org/news/PND.jsp?articleid=713 They could have at least waited a few weeks or month to mask the fact. Guess they didn't want to be shy that Cheney looks to make millions off of this. A little disconcerting that human lives have to be lost for one man to make a buck. I'm not stating this as the sole reason for U.S. action, but I bet it has been a big helping factor in decision making. When the UN passed the resolution 12 years ago, or however many years it was, that Iraq should disarm they should have stuck with it. The situation has only escalated (must be coincidence, but when I checked the spelling on dictionary.com I got this definition and example: To increase, enlarge, or intensify: escalated the hostilities in the Persian Gulf. ) since that time. The sanctions should have been lifted a long time ago too, because that did nothing more than weaken the poor citizens already being oppressed by Saddam. Again, I believe Iraq should have been taken care of years ago, but now we are stuck dealing with it. I just believe our government is taking the wrong actions. Military operations against Iraq are only going to heighten our problem with terrorism and the current domestic economic state. I hope that this all turns out fine, the Iraqi people have better lives as a result, and the other horrible regimes in the area are taken down by some sort of revolution. I hope in my heart of hearts. As much as I hope, I don't believe it will happen. We will see what unfolds in the weeks and months that come.[/i][/url]
  17. I think I may buy another 240 here shortly and wait for a few Renesis motors out of the RX-8 Sport model to show up. Then a turbo will be in the works. Oh, by the way, just for kicks, I guy I know managed to find a 6 speed from an S15 Silvia for $250. Had to add that in there though. EDIT: Just wanted to add that the http://www.corksport.com website has a really nice looking RX-8 with all the body add ons. WOW!!!!
  18. I remember watching one of the Speedvision (before FOX bought it and made 8 hours of NASCAR a day) challenge series races (with the Realtime Integras) and it was raining. I believe Derek Daly mentioned something about the FWD cars having a much easier time in the rain. It was pretty evident too, because the Realtime Integra was leading the race. Anyway, just something I heard.
  19. I don't know. I'm still interested. I think a dash and a center console would just be plain sick.
  20. The CTS is a RWD to my knowledge, and this motor is going in there. I don't think they are going to put a 370HP motor in FWD car, because of half-shaft reliability and other problems. I'm also a really big fan of the Ford OHC motors. The new Cobra is soooooo much fun and that motor is just plain awesome. The more I look at them, the more I want to put a 5.0 cammer (quad cam V8) in a Z. I'm really waiting for this V6 though. Twin hair dryer V6 would be really, really fun.
  21. Well, I started to get the pedal feel back. Out in the rain until 10:00P bleeding the thing with a tarp over the car. I still need to do some more, but its getting there. I actually started the car last night. Its still on jackstands and doesn't have the exhaust on yet. Sounds like a friggin Harley with straight pipes. I hate that sound. The driveshaft isn't installed either, can't find the bolts. Anyone know what size bolts I need? Thanks for all the help so far, but its coming along.
  22. I was pretty sure that I wouldn't be able to move it, but just wanted to make sure. That's why they use hydraulic fluid and all, right? Force multiplication over a distance. Oh, I didn't take the slave cylinder all the way off. Just took off the mounting bolts from the tranny to get it out. Guess I'm off to bleed it again. Its raining too. Damn. Well, gotta do what you gotta do.
  23. No, I didn't use something else from the beginning. I've never touched the clutch hydraulics until now. The light clutch pedal before I even touched the system. I'm beginning to wonder if I've lost my slave cylinder. I'll try to figure out where that air leak is coming from. I did nothing more than take the slave cylinder off the tranny to get the tranny out and when I went to put it back together the clutch was extremely light. I'm still wondering if the throw out lever thing isn't working properly. Should you be able to move it and thus disengage the clutch with some significant push without the hydraulics hooked up? Thanks for all the help so far.
  24. Definitely not cool for the one guy to decide what was moral and what was not for the guy who blew his motor. Should have let SOA decide that. I don't like what the one guy trying to turn his car back to stock and get it done, but the other guy for deciding morals was not cool either.
  25. Alright, I bled the system some more and used brake fluid. I found a place that said to use the brake stuff. Hopefully, that was right. Anyways, to get to my point, the pedal is still really light. I hear air when I depress the clutch now. Sounds like its coming from the slave cylinder. Time for a new one? Or, is it because the clutch itself isn't disengaging properly? Maybe I'll get this figured out soon.
