Hi Z people. OK I've spent a few hours searching and I haven't found what im looking for so here go's... Has any one put a honda civic A/C system into a 240Z. Or how about a sentra, eclips, escort, carrola, 240sx, or any other small car system? I'm gonna put a/c in my Z before the summer and I wanna know what the best, cheepest, and easiest mod is. I was thinking about getting rid of the card board glove box and putting the condensor where that would be (since I never use it I might as well hide the condensor there, If i can?). I was thinking about just using the stock ZX compressor and hooking up another cars condensor and all the other stuff. So what has been done How much did it cost and how hard was it? Keep in mind I'm also gonna be converting to a turbo motor. Thanks Z people

What does the HR stand for in the VQ35HR I know all the DETT stuff but HR is new to me. The new VQ38 with 350 HP should be awesome in the new 08 Z, that should quiet down all the people bitching about HP to weight raitos.

Im getting my bumpers done right now and Im paying 275 each... so, I'd say thats a good deal. I had one guy quote me $500 each bumper. I think the only way to get a better deal would be to go to tija Juana. Matt-

300 RWHP on a N/A L28 is not an easy task. For 300 you need turbo. As far as getting parts ... well that what Ebay is for. you can use your existing block Its either an N47 or an F54 either way your good. just swap out your N47 head with a P90 or P79 buy a turbo exaust manifold, turbo dizzy, after market engine managment (aka computer) fuel injectors, fuel pump, blow off valve, turbo, boost controller, 3 inch exaust, and a few other things and you will have well over 300 HP to the wheels. Or just swap in a 2jz supra engine:razz:. Read read read. Good luck. Matt-

Great Job Dreco! Nothing like an SU powered 3 liter! What needles are you using? SM's? Did you weld your bumpers up or are they fiberglass repos? I'm getting my bumbers welded up right now... not cheep:-(. Just a thought ... why not turbo your 3 liter, the torque would be awesome! Matt-

I painted the james in the stages I listed, but I did them first. so 3 coats of base on the james then I closed all the doors and painted the body. When it was time for the Clear coat I shot the james first then I closed the doors and shoot the body. You don't really have to worry about over spray on the door jams. I hope that helps. I don't know why that picture is so small, Its big in the gallery Matt-

hey Bartman, I thought about painting my car in pieces but my teacher said that the best way is to paint it with all the the sheet metal where its suposed to be. I did have to take the hatch off though so that I could paint that jam. there is no other way to paint the top of the hatch jam with out taking it off. I also took out all of the glass, windshield, hatch and quarters all out. First you paint the jams then you lay down the body paint. I put down two coats of primer sealer and wet sanded that with 800 (over kill I know but its all in the details right) I used prep clean to make sure there were no oils on the primer then I went over it with a tack rag. I layed down 3 coats of base. the first coat was with a 50% over lap the second was a "random" coat so that the metalic in the paint wouldn't leave a stripe pattern, the third coat was really random. I always started painting from the center of the roof out, then down the sides of the car. Clear coat was put on with a higher pressure so that It wouldnt leave a pattern. The first coat was once again a 50% over lap. the second and third coats were also with a 50% over lap. The hardest part of spraying clear is trying to see where you have sprayed. You have to controll your spray gun speed, to fast and it will go on dry, to slow and it will "sag" or "run" Give the clear coat about 10 or 15 minutes between coats so that it will "tack" up. The better your spray job the less color sanding you have to do. This is with 1 coat of base As you can see all the sheet metal is on the car (except for the hatch its hanging in the background). The paint does a really good job of getting in all the cracks. If you have any more questions please let me know. I hope this was helpful. Matt-

1st coat of base -
Thanks again for all of the comments guys. Once I get the bumpers on and finnish the color sanding and pollishing I'll take some "sick" pictures of my Z. This is what my car looked like in the begining This is my quarter pannel repair As far as the photos ... I took them about 1 hour before sun down. Great photos are all about the lighting. For car photography 1 hour untill sundown is the best time. Thanks again guys, I post the new pictures when I get them done Matt-

From the album: my 240Z project
I welded in half quarter replacements on both sides of the Z. I also replaced the inside wheel wells. I gap welded it then used fiberglass to blend it all in. It took a lot of time becuase I didn't know what I was doing. -
From the album: my 240Z project
I think there were 5 diferent colors on the Z at this pint... and I was stilll proudly driving it! -
Thanks for the compliments guys! Usually when I tell someone that I just painted it they say, "where did you get it done?", then I say, "NO, I PAINTED IT!" Then they wanna know if I'll paint their car, hmmmmm let me think... HELL NO I have to thank my Auto body teacher Mike Doyle, (god bless public education, for $20 I got instruction, access to a spray booth and pro paint gun) with out his instruction I never would have gotten this done. v8260... I've been driving it for the past 3 years ... it just looked like crap the hole time I drove it. my friends would laugh at me and ask me "if everything was all right". who's laughing now bitches... no ride for you! xxjoexxeb... I don't know how big the anttena is. Its just temporary untill I put in the electric one. but its just a regular anttena from the auto parts store. I'll post some before pictures tomorrow along with all the stuff that I had to do to make the car what it is today. Matt-

Well I painted it! I have just a little more color sanding a pollishing to do and it will be perfect. The color is lamans sunset (350Z orange A17). I used PPG 2 stage paint. I've been working on it for over 3 years now and I think the time i put into it was worth it. Once I get the bumpers back from the chromer I will take some Awesome pictures of it ( I used to be a professional photographer). If you have any question let me know. Matt

I think I read in road and track that the 350Z was getting a new version of the VQ engine that had a displacement of 3.8 liters along with its new body styling... wouldn't that then be a 380Z?! or are they gonna call it the 350ZX? What the hell? Maybe im retarded and I read it wrong, someone back me up with this one. Matt

The stock P90 turbo cam is good up to 450 WHP, just ask Austin. It's my understanding that a N/A performance cams don't work so good on turbo engines because of the overlap. If the N/A cam lets pressure bleed from the compression stroke then it sort of defeats the turbo benifits. Turbo cams limit the overlap. Of course it should be stated that I don't know what I'm talking about and this is just what I've learned from a few conversations with other Z guys. In short, if you're gonna get a custom cam get one for a turbo engine. Matt-

Hi Welcome to Hybrid Z, one of the best Z sites on the web. The L28 is a very versitile engine that has many encarnations. The L28 was made for approximatly 13 years and because of this many, many modifications have been tried and experimented with. Any L6 Z engine block will work with any L6 Z engine head from any of the 13 years of manufacture. There are turbo modifications, tripple carborators, superchargers, stroker engines, and much more. The three carborators that your friend was talking about is most likely the tripple webber setup, but there is also a makuni, or SU setups also. As far as getting V8 power out of a the L28 the answer is YES. Keep in mind that there is no replacement for displacement, so the V8 will always have the potential for more horse power but the L28 is an exciting power plant with horse power verying from 180 to 450 to the Wheels depending on what you do to the engine. As far as the L28 vs. L28e goes there is no differance other than the "e" stands for Electronic Fuel Injection, all 280z's came from the factory as L28e engines. So if you wanted to make your engine into a tripple carb engine you would have to replace your EFI intake manifold with a tripple webber manifold/carb setup, I think they are selling for some where in the $1,200 range. I hope this helped to answer some of your questions. Matt-

If you coat the inside of the turbo housing wont that mess with the clearences between the turbin blades and the housing and will that mess with performance? How much does it cost to get the manifold coated? Thanks for the replies! Matt-

I have an N42 head on my F54 with a Schnider cam (460 lift 270 duration) and Im going to change it to a P90 (or a P79 If I can't find a P90). I'm N/A right now but I'll be going turbo and I don't think my current setup will work. My F54 has flat top pistons and my CR is 9.2:1 with an HKS 2mm steel head gasket. If I tried to boost my current setup I might be ok with 7psi but anything over that and I'm looking at an exploding engine. If I had dished pistons and a stock N42 cam It would probably be a good combo but I don't, so... It's easyer and better to put on a P90 head than to change out my pistons to dished turbo pistons. There was a thread about turbo'ed n42 head combinations and most of them had dished pistons and were running close to 300 WHP with no problems but its all about engine managment. Matt-

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone ever Jethot coated the Stock Turbo Exaust manifold and if so how much does it lower the temp under the hood? are the any other benifits to getting it coated? Like will the turbo spool up faster? does it mess with the O2 sensor? Can the cast iron take the heat? Just wondering, Matt-

You can usually find a stroker crank on ebay for about 300 bucks. or search the junk, yards for the disel maxima. Ebay would probably be the faster way to get one. they seem to show up about once or twice a month. Matt- P.S. I have a set of 8mm L24 rods that I would be willing to trade for a P90 head.

Thanks Nismopick! That is an awesome compairison. My turbo build can continue now. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. Matt-

No one has an answer to this one?... I thought this was a no brainer, and I just didn't have a brain. Any help would be Great! Thanks Matt-

Hey guys, I'm sure that this has been covered but I couldn't find it in the search archives. So here is my question... do the stock Mk3 turbo 440cc injectors use the stock 280zx injecor seals and hold downs? I know that I need a new "custome" fuel rail for the O-rings to work but I just don't know about the other stuff. Thanks, Matt- P.S. I just got a set of 6, cleaned and flow tested for $50bucks:) Long live Ebay!
