  1. just swap an L-series bell housing onto your current tranny and you will need some machine work done to the bellhousing but it wont cost much or take to much time. Basically just need to make the bearing race larger to except the truck tranny's main shaft bearing. peace.
  2. i never really had fueling probs with the turbo HB I built either using the stock pump but it didnt help when we were trying to do pulls down the road and it was maxing out. peace.
  3. stock 93 HB fuel pump and your truck is still alive? This just reenforces my belief in the old single cam VG and their toughness! The stock fuel pump is probly your biggest factor and you can run stock injectors on intercooled vg with 15psi of boost but thats the limit. Im sure the nitrous doesnt help either so I would look into a walbro 255lph fuel pump and some bigger injectors. peace.
  4. thats of slightly better quality than the borg warner crappy products but I would still find a reputable japanese parts supplier in your area and use them. I hate BORG WARNERS crap! peace.
  5. people have been putting KA heads on L-4's for a couple years now because the head bolt spacing is the same and water jackets are pretty damn close too. I believe theres an oil drain on the back of the head that needs to be plugged but I am not sure in the DOHC case? 1 fastz do you think gaskets are absolutely neccessary between each section of the head if theyre surface ground? I am really ponderign doing this! peace.
  6. check or calibrate your tps because its possible youre in flood clear mode on MS. peace.
  7. if one was to surface grind each section of head would gaskets be needed you think? We do alot of surface grinding here at work for some of our plastics molds and in house parts occasionally placing an o-ring or two inside for extra sealing but its not common. With aluminums incredible expansion rate would a gasket still be needed, or even more so? peace.
  8. my friend has a sand rail with an sr20 in it and a built vw bus tranny behind it. IT's unfortunately a FWD Sr20 and I believe the bolt pattern is different but I am not positive. I can talk to him about making another adapter if you want. peace.
  9. the engine is very heavy and weighs about 600 pounds but its power potential outweighs that. Far as the ecu goes I would just run the factory one and buy a new harness for it as the old ones are usually cracked due to the extreme engine bay heat. In reality theres only really six or seven wires that dont go to the engine itself to run the engine. go to phatg20.net for an fsm on the 300zx and to see a wiring diagram. peace.
  10. i need a better shot of the inside of that plenum, almost looks like theres a shelf created by the over lap of the tubes. that would be less than ideal in my mind. The lack of velocity stack probly has something to do with the fact he is shoving so much boost in there it probly would make little difference. I did it to my l-6 manifold but i have no idea how its gonna work. peace.
  11. i thought q45's were r230's and j30's were r200's?
  12. i think we have one laying around here with a broken stud in it, as long as you can use it, im sure i could just ship it to ya. this project would seriously help my friend out because he is not optimistic of clearance. peace.
  13. you figured out what your gonna do about the tranny? or are you gonna use a 2wd v6 pickup tranny? my friend and I are starting this project this summer in a 4wd so its gonna be pretty crazy. how does the frame clearance look with the turbos on? cant wait to see more on this thing. peace.
  14. my friend has been running an n/a MAF on his turbo z31 for quite some time now without any problems. peace.
  15. you have a manual boost controller correct? to eliminate a few things I would check all connections there and if you cant find anything maybe you should un hook it and plug in the stock vacum line to the actuator. peace.
  16. If you flip the manifolds you need to have adapters made for the drivers side of the engine. I made a set and i can post up the measurements when I get home. The ports line up[ just fine its just the location of the studs themselves. Also, far as your tranny goes you might look into a 2wd v6 nissan pickup. Theyre hard to find but man is the tranny worth its weight in gold because theyre slightly shorter than the other fs5r30a's. Plus you wont have that silly shift rod Z32 style, instead a conventional shifter will be in place. Any 88 and above 2wd nissan v6 pickup will have the shorter fs5r30a transmission. peace.
  17. but both transmissions are FS5w71c's so I dont see the advantage?
  18. Also, sorry to hijack your thread Northwest and I sent you a PM about your 300zx. peace.
  19. so, RB isnt a way of labeling a series of engines, or VG, CA,KA, SR? L is just a generic letter used to distinguish all nissan inline engines? ok, well i learned something new then and I am gonna pass this along to all the other Datsun fans on here. BTW, all i had to do was SEARCH and I found alot of info even on this site as to how the RB is shorter than the L6. So, that goes to show me that you havent done as much research as you claim and are merely out to call me out for trying to give someone some advice. Granted its not a drop in deal at all for a 510 but it has been done. I dont care anymore to argue with you dude about this crap, continue believing that theyre the same length or longer or whatever. From what I can tell your first post towards me was just something simple and I guess I wont be putting the letter L next to a six anymore in a thread about RB's because that would be redundant. peace.
  20. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/sss510six/albums thats the dime when I am not at work I will dig up the stuff I have found about the length of the rb vs. L. peace.
  21. I probably have just as many hours in research as you buddy. I didnt think it was shorter either BUT it is. peace.
  22. what part? It is shorter, unless you can prove otherwise. Also, last I checked L6 stood for the series of engine that it was. L6 being the older single cam straight 6, RB being the newer DOHC or SOHC straight 6. I am not a dick nor am I trying to be because its pointless over the internet but I am seeing if you know something different. peace.
  23. its physically shorter than the L6 so I wouldnt go so far as to say theyre the same. Yes the cylinder head will bolt up and what not but mods still have to be done. hey northwest, can you pm me some pics? I dont think I can expect much for 300 bucks but it is a bit of a haul for me. lemme know. peace.
  24. yeah and rb will fit in a 510 because its shorter than an L6 which has been done and by a local oregonian at that. I believe he is in the 9's with his turbo l6 powered 510 and shooting for 8's. He hangs out mostly in the l6 section on this forum and usually posts about some new methanol setup hes working on, lol. what part of oregon are you in, maybe I can come save the z from ya? I live right on the border of washington and oregon up here in vancouver. peace.
