  1. I am in the process of installing the McKinney kit in a 280Z. I noticed that the pillow ball joints are very stiff and that the front springs actually rotate on the spring perch instead of rotating the pillow ball. Is this normal ?
  2. Cool man. Who has a tiled garage floor ?
  3. Very nice work. Thanks for the input mate.
  4. I am building a L28 stroker motor with an offset ground LD28 crank with 85mm stroke. I am running into interference between the crankcase and the rod caps and will have to grind material off the crankcase but how much ? So far I took off about 1mm with a Dremel and all rotates without touching. How much clearance do I need to avoid contact under load conditions? Any advice would be appreciated.
  5. Thank you guys for your feedback. I am good now and will not make the holes.
  6. I am in the process of assembling a L28 stroker motor. I do have new Eagle H- rods which do not have the cylinder wall oiling hole in the shoulder of the rod. What is better, drill the hole and potentially weaken the rods or do nothing and be without the extra lubrication ? All stock rods I have seen do have them. Any advice and experience feedback would be appreciated.
  7. Got one ASCO water pump from Rockauto yesterday. Housing is definitely LD28. Impeller outer diameter is 75mm vs 70mm on standard L28 Nissan pump.
  8. Well, I might just try it out some time in the future. Right now I am stuffing a Z32 manual transmission into a 280Z using Austin's adapter plate (which is first class). I switched the stock tranny to a BW T5 from a 83 ZX turbo about a year ago but I am not happy with it. It's rough and reverse is very loud. My bet is a newer transmission instead of the T5 rebuild. Same money really. I'll switch to the 350Z option if this does not work out. Great that it is available.
  9. Yeah yeah I have heard this before myself. I talked to him in January as well and he gave me the exact same spiel. He was unresponsive to a couple of e-mails I sent in April and in May 2012. I have one of his rear kits still in a box for about two years now waiting for Dave to finish his kit. WAIT WAIT WIAT .... I am just about giving up on Dave.
  10. A few comments regarding the drive shaft shortening, First of all, shortening by two inches is to much. I decided on 3/4" (19mm) to a length of 556mm and this worked perfect in a 1978 280Z. I tried Standard Parts Corp. in Richmond/VA but was told that this type drive shaft cannot be shortened due to it's geometry. After this and based on information I found in this post above, I, too then went to Ballos Precision Machine in Richmond and they were willing to work with me. The person to talk to is Stewart Heider. His initial quote was $150-180 which included replacement of the barrel. In the end I only paid $95 which included balancing. They managed to shorten the drive shaft by cutting the rear end only and re-weld.
  11. I have taken the time to read the entire Internet about this and still did not find a solution to installing a T5 into a 280Z and not modify the console. Any ideas anybody?
  12. I am looking for a machine shop in or around Richmond / VA. I have looked a bit, but havent been able to find a shop that does engine boring with torque plates around where I live. I would rather not drive 3 or 4 hours one way just to have my machine work done. If anyone knows of a shop that does good work within a reasonable distance from Richmond, I would like to know about it. Thanks in advance for your help.
