  1. Well we ran in the stock block race two weekends ago and ran into some issue's. We were getting misfires at upper rpm range. Further checking and we found the issue. It seems the valve springs have gotten weaker and we do not have enought seat pressure. Easy problem to fix, but not going to rush on it. So it looks like we will not be doing the Import showdown at Reynolds. If we have had a better response / turnout of fellow Z members then we could have the issue resolved in a weekend. I told my brother Jerry not to sweat it because of the poor response. Plus we will save our money on getting recertified etc. Just wanted to pass this on. Thanks, John
  2. I live in West columbia, SC and my brother lives in Lugoff SC. Here is the Bowman drag strip website url: www.bowmandragway.com It is off of I-26 heading toward Eloree SC. Reynolds GA is about a 4 to 4 1/2 hour drive for us. The stock block race we will be in is at www.darlingtondragway.com/‎ which is close to Florence SC. Both of these tracks are really slack on certs. Bowman does not have tech, Darlington does have tech but are not that strict. Reynolds is very strict because thay are a IHRA SANCTIONED TRACK. Let me know. John
  3. I understand Warren, see where you are coming from. Rebekahsz, we will have to get our cage recertified and new seat belt harnes to be in cert as well. gogriz91, I checked out the znationals but if I am not mistaken it looks like it is for street cars, we are aways from being streetable but not impossible. We would probably win the dyno pull if they let us enter. We are still a little ways from October 19th so we will see, also if we do not tear up before then. We will be running a stock block competion this Saturday at Hell to Pay II at Darlington Dragway 09/28th. They also have a run what you brung competion at Bowman dragstrip on October 19th as well that we can enter if we do not go to Reynolds, so just not sure what to do with this unless the turn out will be better. At our local tracks they are not as strict as Reynolds. John
  4. Sorry yall can not make it. I am not sure if we are going since I am not getting any response to roll call, we will have to see. I just thought it would be Great to see everybody again but I guess everybody is busy or has lost interest. Only about 24 days left before October 19th. Hopefully we will get some interest built up. It is just too bad we can not compete, we do not mind spotting some 4 cylinders / 6 cylinders a 1/10th or 2/10ths just to get some good old competition. Thanks, John
  5. Time is getting closer. I did research more about the Import Showdown October 19th at Silver Dollar Raceway. The track is being rented by the import guys, the rules for the track still apply. To me it is just like SEZ and DNI did. All the profits go back to the car club. They are allowing all cars to run with the exception of V8 cars we will have to run in the TNT (Test and Tune). I was in hopes we could get in some competition but they do not allow V8's to run. We are still hyped about going and seeing everybody, we just do not want to make a 4hr trip and no one show. Below are the rules for the Import Showdown talking about the number of cylinders: Rules That Apply to All Classes · 3, 4, 5, or 6 Cyl Vehicles Only or those with Rotary motors. V8 can run TNT I hope this does discourage anyone from coming. I guess it is time for Roll Call. Please let us know who is planning on attending. We had a pretty good list going / chiming in. This will dictate if we head down Friday afternoon to meet up with everybody or just go directly to the track on Saturday. I will check in with the guest Hotel about rates again if anyone responds back on the Roll Call. Thanks, John Below is the the rules they have posted: Competition Rules and Classes Note: All Qualifying and Competitions occur on Saturday! 6. We had a GREAT time at the track,The first pass I tried to launch the car at 3000 rpm not using the bump box, it turtled out to about 60' then it started making power. The next two passes, I prestaged brought the rpm up to 3800rpm (which is the normal launch setting) and used the bump box ( Davis Technolgy ) to turn the second bulb, on it makes the car jump hard, and then let the transbreak button go.We were down about 100hp. I did a compression check yesterday and all is good, then installed new plugs. I will take it to the Dyno next week to try out a couple of ideas.
  7. Guest motel / hotel Information: I checked with Warren and he said we use to stay at the Comfort Inn in Byron GA. I searched and it appears now it is a Quality INN. Same place just different name. I asked about the group rate and it is $53.99 per room, need at least 3 rooms rented to get this rate. I think he said normal rate was $69.00 per room. I will call again in September closer to end of month an re-verify this. Counting down the months and days. Getting closer. Thanks, John
  8. Fastest car wins, no bracket, havve to have a stock production block, the faster cars had the LS engine blocks newer model that the Chevy v8 gen 1 block like we are using. Lauching of off two step transbrake, driver has to release transbrake button in order to launch. We are Not using a delay box. John
  9. Went back to track last night. Entered in the Stock block competition. Jerry replaced the cv axles and put it back the way it was with the slicks. Made a shakdown pass and engine was poping on the other end. Pulled some plugs, checked fueil pressure etc. Did not data log that pass, Went to make another pass and was stopped and backed up from the bunout box, leaking fluid. Later found out a fuel line feeding the passenger side fuel rail had development a hole and was pushing out fuel. Replaced fuel line. Did not have time for another pass before competition. Won our 1st round, off our et by 3 to 4 10ths. Cooled it down and getting ready for our second round drew cards abd we had to get the card matched up against a camero bid turbo, big tire car running alky. I think he was the fasted of the cars. Well Jerry cut another good light but had to let out of it at the end, engine breakign up poping. Probably some bad plugs on the passenger side due to being lean from fuel line problem. Hats off to my brother for excelent driving and almost perfect R/T he was cutting down tree on the pro tree. Below is the video on youtube. http://youtu.be/5Ifl0ukt1Ko John
  10. Bummer, I hate breakage. My brother Jerry in on vacatio but I will let him know what happened if he checks in. He is on a cruise.... We had our drive shaft built and had nt had any issues. I will ask him what ujoints / flanges he used. So far we have not broke ours. Just the CV's. Hopefully it is only the drive shaft, and yes drive shaft safethy loops really do help in other breakage to a minimum. John
  11. Looks meaty enough, great idea.
  12. Thanks I just placed my order.
  13. Great looking job Mike, Scottie has out done himself on this one. I can't wait to here how the dyno and track numbers . I hope you can make it to Renolds in October for the race. Please keep the updates coming. Jerry
  14. Congrats on the build. Can't wait to see it in person. You should have no issue acheiving your goal with the weight, I think out Z is about the same weight if not more. Maybe we can all get together again in reynolds GA. in October. I am sure my brother Jerry will be chiming in also. He has had some bad luck with his latest change on his Z car, but this is racing. Kudo's to Scottie also he does great work. Have fun tuning and please keep us posted. John
  15. Where did you get your Illuminas from? I tried to order front and rear some last Month and could not find any. Jerry
  16. This build has been a inspiration to me, I found it yesterday. I would like to get the excell spreadsheet and would be willing to pay you for it,to help out with the build. Thanks for all your hard work and willingness to share your information. Thanks Jerry
  17. I will send SunnyZ and Wfritts a PM, Thanks Jerry
  18. Joe, the R200 and stub axles in the car is the original ones from the factory, I plan on going faster with this setup ,but just seeing what is available. several weeks ago at the track I went a 5.57 @ 130mph with a 1.38' 60' and a 3.74 at the 330', The last pass of that day is on you tube called Remdemtion pass, I went a 1.36 60' and a 3.66 at the 330' but had to let it go because it was heading toward the center line, that should have been a 5.40 something pass. The car is kind of hard to hold, so that is why I am trying the Drag Radials for stability and driveabilty. I won't to keep the car IRS if at all possible. I made a comment along time ago that just about anybody can go fast on a narrowed rearend, but I think it is cool to go fast of stock stuff. I will be trying the car again in a couple of weeks to find out if the CV axles were just fatigued. The car is back together and I have another spare set of axles on order. Thanks for your reply. Jerry
  19. I just got off the phone with a friend who knows a guy that has a 280z with the infiniti rear conversion already done. I am going to go by and look at the setup. I want to keep the IRS system in the car. I already have a 9" setup ,but do not want to cut the car up. But I learned along time ago never say never.I will go back to the track in a few weeks with the new 300zxt axles(OE), and try it again, and if breaks try something else, or change the setup the way it was before and keep racing. Thanks for all the replys and information.Jerry
  20. I will be in contact with those guys, The stub axles are the original ones.
