  1. So whats the max backspace you can use with 15" wheels and STOCK struts in the front and rear?
  2. greetings and welcome aboard~!
  3. I too am on the market for the widest ZG style flares I can get. Can anyone give a definitive list of the vendors from widest to narrowest? Just the widest available would be great even. I need something thats going to be 2"+ wide at the rear. JaSon
  4. Personally I would do a Grand National/T-Type engine or a Syclone/Typhoon engine (which I've yet to see done) if I were you. They are a GREAT engine! In case you arent familiar; turbo charged 3.8L V6, pretty light and they have a massive aftermarket. Not that you'd need to do much to reach your goals. If I hadn't had a built 350 already from my Camaro (upgraded to a 496 bb) I would have dont the GN engine. You could match that to a T56 Vette/Camaro 6 speed manual tranny (i would assume) and that would be a ripping little Z! Just my opinion RJ
  5. I dont see how a GN engine could suck behind a stick...but i'd like to hear why. They have a lowish redline and make alot of torque. Sounds kinda like a V8. I drove SuperDan's previous car with a 350/t56 and it was pretty damn nice imho. Maybe Im missing a point here
  6. Im seeing lots of poeple talking about putting strokers in their cars here lately. Alot of them seem to be just building their first hybrid too. I have to wonder if most of these people know just how much power that is in these light cars. Not just for the rush but for drivability. The average quality stroker engine in an early Z is enough to scare the SH!T out of most people. Not to mention it can be very hard to control. Doesn't take much throttle at those levels to send you sideways in a turn or get you into a situation that can be dangerous. Don't forget to seriously upgrade the brakes and suspension if you do go this route. Not doing so could end you up in a very bad situation very quickly. Be safe and have fun! Jason
  7. If it was a new Cobra you did well against it. As mentioned above these are supercharged with 390hp which can put them in the MID 12's...and thats stock on street tires. Good job! Jason
  8. I feel compelled to add my experience here. It wasn't that long ago that I was in your exact position. Now it feels great to be able to share my personal experience and give a little back. I have 2 project cars, one being a 71 240Z with a Chevy 355 in it. I had looked into alot of other vehicles (kit cars included) that would fit my needs. These needs were owning something different that most people had never seen, an all around serious performance vehicle that is daily driver capable and, lastly, something that I felt I could do myself with my limited experience and learn along the way. Choosing the 240Z was an educated decision and I dont regret it. All I have left to do to the car to make it run is the wiring and swapping out the diff. I've already dropped the engine and 700r4 tranny in place as well as done most upgrades to the car that are listed in the JTR manual. I did everything with hand tools from Harbor Freight (cheap but they work fine), a borrowed cherry picker (thanks SuperDan), a floor jack and jackstands, the JTR book and THIS SITE. I'm no mechanic although Im pretty well read on the subject of engines and performance vehicles. The JTR book is simple and straight forward. Anything that I didnt quite understand was answered in short order on this website. Now why the Z car? It's a great looking classic car that is a true sports car right out of the box. Driving even a stock early Z car just feels like a drivers car. They are low and sleek with that unmistakable classic sports car feel. Very easy to drive at the limit and they respond VER well to upgrades that are cheap by todays standards. Also, you CAN find a solid, straight bodied car with a blown engine for CHEAP. I got mine for $500. The decision is yours. I will agree with the statement made above about tech support tho. You wont get even a fraction of the help and information available on this website for any kit car. Think about that before you make your choice. Making the decision is the easy part. When you have the car in your garage on jackstands and you are at your wits end about the next step and how the hell you are supposed to accompish it...that's when this great website and the poeple that have been there will hold SO MUCH value to you. I wish you luck! Jason
  9. 2 days is not long. Have alittle patience I say. He might be at work, out of town, etc. I've waited 2 weeks for contact from some people on ebay. Jason
  10. Not a bad price really.. I cant get to the pics right now but i think i remeber you having the newer style centerlines. Do they make the old school solid with rivets style rims in our bolt pattern and offset these days? What sizes do these come in? I would like to get a set of 16x7-8" front and 16x10" rear in polished if possible. Also, what offset is needed front and rear for running these sizes with stock struts? Thanks again, Jason ITS ALMOST READY TO FIRE....FINALLY!
  11. I am having a problem with my MegaShifter also. It will go through all the gears, but its VERY hard to shift. Especially out of park. Feels like the shift lever on the trans is too short and isnt giving enough leverage. To get it out of park i have to pull the damn shifter so hard that when it finally moves it ends up in Drive! The cable is not kinked and the it slips right into both park and 1st, so i THINK i have it adjusted correctly. Is is the lever? If so where can I get the right one? If I dont get this think shifting alot smoother im gonna have a big Popeye right arm! Jason
  12. Fast Frog, If you dont mind me asking, what did you pay for the rims? They sound like exactly what im lookng for. i plan on doing the big style ZG flares and always liked the look of the classic centerlines on the early Z's. Do you have pics? Would love to see them. I need to get rims n tires soon but need to find a good deal with width and mean looks in 15 or 16" Thanks Jason
  13. Is the tank still available? I'm in need of a straight, non-rusted out tank for my 71. Not sure if shipping to CA would be outrageous or not.. zip here is 92021 thanks Jason
  14. Seems the Garage From HELL ate my B&M Megashifter instructions sheets. Got it installed just fine but I dont know where the wires from the four terminals on the 2 switches go. Does anyone know where each goes, or, can someone scan theirs and email it to me please? It's in a 71 240Z. THANKS much! Jason
  15. dont forget about ROUTE66 Thats the BIG DOG!
  16. Radtad, Xtreme Energy are some of the most popular cams these days for everything from towing to hotrod applications. They are not "4x4 cams" ONLY, although they do make several grinds that would fit the application nicely. As far as concerns for your 350 regarding lift then. It's possible your cam has too much "lift" for your valve springs. If the lift of the cam exceeds the maximum lift capabilities of the springs, you will experience binding of the coils in the springs. Comp has a very good tech support department and one call to them should answer your questions. Best to get the low-down straight from the horses mouth than to risk damaging your valvetrain..or WORSE. Give them a ring with your info. Heres the number 1-800-999-0853 Also, have a poke around their site..lots of info there! http://www.compcams.com/ Good luck! Jason
  17. WARNING!!! MANY people have had MAJOR problems with these characters...including myself. I wont go into details, but I advise you take your buisness elsewhere. These guys throw together kits, dont do their own machine work (send it out to the cheapest source), dont check the work before shipping it often times, and, WILL try to screw you if theres a problem with your order. BEEN THERE...DONE THAT. Avoid Speed-O-Motive if you like quality and honesty. Jason
  18. Hey Greinmann How goes it? Just thought Id ask if you have anything for sale. Been havin MAJOR issues with other board members selling parts and, with you, it was smooth n easy. Worth a shot! Jason
  19. Avid gamer here. I move around between Quake2 and 3, Diablo2, UT, AvP2 and RtCW. I DO have halflife, but havent played it since the new wave of shooters came out. Jason
  20. I'm stickin with Scottie on this one Reasoning? First, the little Buick Turbo's got alot of potential and are quite easily "bumped up" when need be. Second, you gotta watch out for the quiet ones. They are the ones that will kick your ass.. Gettum Scottie! Jason
  21. The exhaust fume issue is very common among early Z owners. Using the search function will unveil a wealth of info on the subject. But, to start you off, i'll add alittle info here. The exhaust fumes mainly come from the rear of the car due to a combo of aerodynamics and bad sealing in the rear of the cars. Most people improve/correct the problem by adding any combination of the following until tolerable: tailight gaskets, rear hatch main gasket, seals around gas filler and/or sealing up the various rubber grommeted openings in the rear of the Z. The search will go into much greater detail for you. Good Luck! Jason
  22. I may be interested in parts off of the car, but not the whole car. Things off the top of my head would be seats, hood, emblems and any other pieces that are identical for a 240Z. I'm also in San Diego so let me know if you are willing to part out some of the car. You can reach me at Drag_race_nut@hotmail.com Jason
  23. Mike, If its not to much hassle, yes id like to see your method. I have nothing to compare to since I havent found any pictures of peoples fuel systems, although Im sure there are some somewhere (where??). Thanks much! Zya, I thought about your method for a long time. Why I decided to run a 3/8" tap and line all the way is this. The car will see alot of 'spirited' freeway time. This is the perfect situation to make any bottlenecks in the fuel system show up. I figure that being in the gas for long periods of time like this will burn through the gas in the 3/8" line up to the 5/16" feed in fairly short order..and that 5/16" will have to feed the engine at high revs. At the sake of running lean and possibly surging the engine at high speed..Im goin 3/8" all the way. So, hows the car doing? Im always up for a report on my cars twin! Any 1/4 mile times yet? Jason
