  1. here is a different ecotec powered bug thread... Just as nice http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=118809&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 here are a few vw baja sites www.vwbaja.net (hybriders that use the 2.3 ford and 3.0 honda motors) www.heckermachine.com ( more cool car stuff up there with all those crazy oregon guys like BRAAP and rontyler...) www.blindchickenracing.com (awesome tube bender plans and 2.3 turbo ford users) www.thesamba.com (generic vw site, check out the off-road section) www.volksrods.com (Definitely not purists...a couple of watercooled motor swaps as well)
  2. Ah yes but you are going to pay a bunch more for any other HID headlights with ballasts...
  3. DUDE!!! I absolutely love the rear end on this Z!!! This is the one you linked in your first post...
  4. I have te same vacuum and right after I removed al the paint off the top of my Z I vacuumed EVERYTHING and then picked up the vacuum and as I picked it up it barely tapped my Z which was on jack stands and the bottom fell off and sent paint dust everywhere again... They say cleanliness is next to Godliness...well it ain't easy to be clean...
  5. we talked about that one on here several months ago... I think I am going to do something similar to the front strut mounts on my Z so that I can take advantage of the long struts and be able to have a low ride height. Of course I'd make bulges in the hood for the struts...
  6. here is the company that does all the adapter kits...over 100 different engines that they can attach to a vw tranny http://www.kennedyeng.com/vw_por.htm
  7. Well if you ever want another full dash you know who to go to... I should be getting a little TIG machine in the next few months so I can make the dashes at my house and not have to use my old welding school's shop...I had not done any corner joints on aluminum before that half dash so some of it got ugly but once I figured it out I could run a couple inches of weld at a time. I started doing practice by welding cola cans together at the bottom. I never got all the way around though without blowing it out. I made about 60 degrees around the cans before they blew out. The thicker dash aluminum is much easier to weld.
  8. one thing is if you run boost any higher you have to convert to the VW "bus" tranny which takes some fabrication to mount but nothing hard... I have always wanted to get my hands on a VG30dett and put it in the back of a bug with a built tranny. 300hp with a roof mounted snorkel and twin turbos in a 1400lb bug would be fun...plus you could go where jeeps can't go just from getting sheer speed and bouncing over and big humps... You can get an adapter plate and get your flywheel modified to mate to a VW type trans for like $400...Not too bad in my book. Maybe once I get out of college I'll build one and modify the tranny to have a front output shaft to put an R180 up front and make it a 4x4 that is ultra light and still can go really fast on the street...with bigger offroad tires just me thinking out loud.
  9. VG30 running 5-6 pounds of boost in a ~1400 lb bug... 640){ this.height = Math.round((640/this.width)*this.height); this.width = 640; }" border=0>
  10. From that 4th pic it looks like a bunch of black gooey stuff so... I have a couple valves on my head that have a little of that white peely stuff...Not quite sure what it is though.
  11. yes...on the rear pan area below the tag... that goes for anyone's idea that I use...I may do a mix and match and if I use part of your idea you will get a small name on my car... Most likely I'll use screen names
  12. yeah...I like the urban/ex-military/patina look and have been looking at rat rods and volksrods (hot rodded VWs)
  13. hmm...even another engine... the dirtyness pistons look like what mine did except worse. Just get some mothers polish and clean those puppies up! Makes me think the rings weren't a proper fit.
  14. definitely... I just need something to inspire me since I have been sort of down about having to withdraw from college (the broken jaw) and I have no money. My car is sitting outside while my engine is laid out in my half of the garage. BTW I just discovered that my clutch is not the right one... SPEC sent me a 240mm flywheel and a 225mm clutch...Both already have 700 miles on them...that was another bummer when I looked at the disc sitting on the flywheel... That was not very encouraging to see...
  15. see... I am getting fed up with all of this expensive junk on my car so I want to do something cheap and scary looking...Not that it isn't already scary but I want cool and scary. I just put up ideas but I'll get a sketch done up tonight.
  16. I know veritech has done some urban, post-apocolyptic sort of designs so I figured I'd see what ideas other people had. I'll photocopy some of my Z sketches and do some schemes on them. This one is not for the retardo body kit...just the paint scheme... I like this scheme too... I had a similar idea a while back in one of my sketch threads.
