  1. I really hope this is not another "show cars parts" They have some pretty good prices and they are coming out with some cool pieces.
  2. Watch mike come back with some new ford big block with twin superchargers and twin turbos and try to shoehorn it under a Z's hood...
  3. I was just checking out Z fiberglass'es website and they are now offering a bunch of cool stuff like 2 versions of a G-nose. A standard version and a racing version with a big scraper on the bottom. Here is the link to the products page. http://www.zfiberglass.com/id10.html I may be interested in one of those racing G-noses...
  4. standalone tv recording hard drive that also has a built in DVD burner. Sort of like a fancy ti-vo...
  5. maybe someone should make a seperate sticky titled "how to use the search function"
  6. My neighbor has a MILD sbc Z that I rode in back in 03 before I bought my Z. I haven't seen it for a whils so he could have sold it or moved it into storage. IF I go v8 it'll be a 289 or 302 sbf motor. I know a few fox body mustang guys so that may help. I'll do some more searching on here and some ford sites to learn more about the 289/302 motor. I have heard the 289 is higher revving than the 302 so I am leaning toward the 289...IF I go V8...
  7. I have seen a VW baja bug dune buggy that had a main suspension pivot point welded on with a MM135 and he took a small jump and snapped the suspension on that corner of the car off and bent the shock like 30 degrees.
  8. If you are doing body work and thin frames like on a Z then a Millermatic 135 will suffice. If you are doing a roll cage or something thick like that you want a stronger welder like a Millermatic 175 or 210. Don't get the Hobart version of the Miller 135. It has like 5 voltage settings and infinite wire speed settings. It may be the other way around though. The Miller is the way to go for sure. I have seen the Millermatic 135 for around $530 on www.cyberweld.com . They have free shipping on welders and accessories and have VERY competitive prices. I'll probably end up getting a show model of a welder at a welding show since you can get really good prices on slightly used equipment.
  9. I agree there slownrusty...I am pretty much fine slowing my build down if I could have a better relationship with the right person. Even if it means that I can't get a project done when I want it done. I will never call my car done which means there will never be a full written plan but I know in my head what general direction I want to go. I won't get married on an impulse just because she likes cars or not marry someone because they don't like cars. That is just me but I think finding the right person involves more than luck. I should try to be the right person as well by devoting some of my time and money in something that she likes even if it is not cars. I don't think being selfish and spending all of my money on my own project and thus destroying a relationship with the right person would be a good thing to do. I'm not knocking anyone for their passion for Zs but this is just my personal opinion. I have a strong passion for Z cars but I won't let it get between me and the right woman. Hopefully Zs can be a passion for the two of us but if it is not so then so be it. This is my personal opinion. edit: V, I am pretty much building the Z as a street legal race car and won't be driven much except to and from track days, shows, and occasional weekend drives. Now that I have this truck I can depend on the Z less as daily transportation. Also building a car for her it does not matter what the car looks like if it brings the two people together...then have your own personal car...
  10. hey V, Try to get some input from her of what she would like to see on the camo Zzzap. I have asked my good friend (that is a girl) a few things and implemented a few things tht she suggested...definitely makes things easier IMO. I don't like EVERYTHING on that Z but the craftsmanship is top quality and there are several things that are cool on it. I know what you mean though V, My mom hates my Z because of the lack of safety features. She wants airbags in the car but that can't be done for anywhere near decent prices. The compromise is that I will be doing the full cage, racing seats, and harnesses which I was planning on doing anyway. I am just going to be doing it before the car gets back on the road. I just had to lay it all out and show a bit of what I am invisioning.(that was plenty hard)
  11. So here is the big question...Why are you a car guy? What is it about being a car guy that makes her unhappy? I think if SHE can get involved and have a car that both can have a passion about then things will go much better. The coolest thing I saw was talking with Scott and Vicky Moschetto at ZdayZ and seeing how both of them had a passion for her 280Z. Even though the car is not everyone's cup-o-tea it is the fact that both of them worked together building the car and had a great time building it. They have 2 other Z's as well and one is a scarab. They definitely gave me encouragement at one of the dinner meals by complementing the sound of my Z and giving me support in what I am doing with my car even though it was half stripped out and junky looking at the show. oh yeah... they won best in show.
  12. I am thnking of building a mild street driver 2+2 Z when I find the right one...sort of a wedding present I guess...It will be a suprise too. That is my plan anyway... I will probably rebuild my L26 down the road for that car. I'll keep the header and light flywheel but a much quieter exhaust and soundproofing...maybe an auto tranny instead of the 4-speed...(you never heard me say that!).
  13. I am not that strong against a V8...Maybe a smaller V8... I was looking at the higher revving 289 sbf and thinking that would be a good motor. Good road racing history in the cobra, not too heavy, and good aftermarket support. The LSx motors are just too expensive for what I am looking to do. If I were to do a 289 sbf I would want to spend like 3k to get a motor and tranny installed in the car with a driveshaft and then spend the rest in cylinder head work and a cam. EFI/megasquirt would definitely be in the plan. I got sick of my car having something going wrong every 500 miles...I want a dependable engine that makes good power and get decent mileage.
  14. I just saw that tonight too!
  15. One of the coolest Zs around here...Just if we could all hang with the viper crowd...
  16. why does it look like there is a vette that wrecked into a vw golf? What a terrible pileup. I hope not too many people died...
  17. There is also one that you attach your drill too that looks like it would work good.
  18. can you upload a picture of what we need to see? The louvers on my 260Z just screwed into the sheet metal of the hatch. Just don't bust anything. A picture will help out a lot...
  19. cygnusx1: There something going here.. every vid 'i see of Garrett driving he has malfunctioning taillights...lol Anyway...umm...that is pretty quick...
  20. atye...but light weight...an SR20 with all of it's turbo stuff probably weighs as much as an N/A L6 engine but it is shifted more rearward. The big thing with a V8 is gas consumption. I still have to be able to drive this car 350 miles and not not be broke at the end of the day. With a performance V8 I am guessing I could get maybe 12mpg or upto 15 with an LSx motor. With the 2.0t you are burning less gas than with a V8 unless you are always boosting. Of course if I could find a turbine engine with a power output shaft like I saw at the Naval Aviation Museum that makes 750 hp and looks like it would fit in the Z's engine bay then I'd do it but I don't really want hot feet...
  21. I cut 14 pounds off of my engine (L26) by going from a stock flywheel to an 11Lb SPEC flywheel. If the L24 had an 11Lb flywheel it should be about a 31 pound difference between the 302 and L24
  22. I'll trade you a 99% perfect, non-vented, stock hood for that one...
  23. You can usually find a little bulb type at Autozone or Advance. Pep boys tends not to carry them. I think "Wally-world" may carry one as well. It took me forever to find one when I was trying to get the gas out of my Z's tank. Then I found the drain plug...lol
