  1. Another fan of AZC stuff and have his brakes F+R on my car, they are absolutely worth every penny, during a recent track day on 225-50-16 Falken Azenis I was amazed at how well and consistently the car braked, now I just need to learn how to drive! I also upgraded to a 13/16 ZX master cylinder at the same time. I believe your 15x7 panas will fit, I have a pair of 15x8 0 offset wheels (for drag tires) and they fit, just barely, but they fit, front caliper comes very close (1/16th) to the inner part of the spokes, but they are sportmax wheels and it looks to me like th pana spokes aren't quite so close. Daily I run 16x7 panas with no clearance issues
  2. Yasin, I get a little chub everytime I see your car:icon31: I had a 79K mile 82ZXT that I bought from the original owner in San Francisco in '94, put 120K miles on it and sold in '02 to a kid who had it two weeks before he "redecorated" the rear end of a Tundra truck with it, I bought it back and parted it out and I still miss it... I guess I don't spend enough time at HybridZ, I can't figure out how to edit my original post, as I forgot some stuff, not a big deal but it bugs me I can't figure out how to add it now. This really has the potential to be a great thread, as the information for anyone who wants to build an L28ET is out there, when I started messing with them I didn't even have internet access and more than likely blew up a lot of stuff I wouldn't have had to trying to make the power I wanted.
  3. OK, I'll play! I've had several different L28ET set ups in my car over the last 10 years, ranging from totally stock, to a "budget" 287whp/320wtq. stock block, to a 372whp/365wtq forged piston/small cam motor, to the current system which is: Engine - F-54 block, cut for stainless o-rings, factory turbo head gasket. stock crank cut .10/.10, ceramic anti-friction coated ACL rod and main bearings, 88mm Ross forged pistons with Ti nitrided rings, piston crowns thermal barrier coated, skirts anti-friction coated. factory L-28 rods, balanced, beams polished, shot peened and bushed for floating pins. AZC cast aluminum oil pan. Cylinder head - P-90, decked to ensure flatness, custom ground Isky cam, Isky springs, retainers and lash pads, Ferrea +1mm oversized stainless valves, head ported and flowed on flow bench, exhaust ports thermal barrier coated. custom intake manifold by James Thagard, 60mm TB, ported factory exhaust mainfold with innovate turbo "progate" wastegate adapter welded on. Turbo System - TS04, 60-1 compressor, .58 P trim turbine, on center housing. 304 stainless 3" downpipe into 3" mandrel bent mild steel exhaust with a single dynomax "drag" muffler. Turbonetics racegate with 1.5" SS screamer pipe. Spearco 1080 cfm intercooler 18x8x3.5" with 2.5" mild steel intercooler piping, and an old Blitz BOV that's been on the car for the better part of ten years... Electronics - Haltech E6K ECU, Greddy Profec B boost controller, innovative LM-1 wideband, wired to datalog to E6K Fuel System - 550cc RC engineering injectors, Aeromotive A-1000 fuel pump and boost referenced regulator, Aeromotive 100 micron canister filter at the fuel cell, aeromotive 10 micron canister filter before fuel rail. Jaz aluminum 15 gallon fuel cell with 1/2 feed and 3/8 return aluminum hard line. Drivetrain - late 280ZX 5-speed (several!) old 11# tilton flywheel, ACT 6 puck, spring hub clutch. Power - max of 403WHP/365WTQ @ 17 psi on 93 octane. Dynojet 248 this set up also made 297whp at 9 psi (base wastegate spring) and spools at around 3400 rpm, with full boost about 3800, and pulls hard to the 7100 rpm rev limit setting. I have no doubt there is quite a bit more power in this combo, but I haven't really felt the need to up the boost any...yet. Link to Dyno Video:
  4. Car looks AWESOME! good luck with them damn turkeys, I spent the last two weekends in a blind and saw a lot of birds, but never got a clean shot, last sunday at 8 p.m. just as I was packing up to leave probably 40 turkeys came to roost in a huge oak tree maybe 75 yards from me, yep, as soon as stepped out of the blind, there they all go!!! go shoot one for me, I owe 'em! your tape job could have maybe saved me some brain cells over the years. ZCON 2002 trip from Houston to San Antonio in 100* heat comes to mind.
  5. I'm running a 9 psi spring in a turbonetics racegate, and a greddy profec B, it works pretty slick, controller off is 9 psi, for 297 whp, low boost is 13 psi for 327 whp, and high is set at 17 for 403 whp, so in effect I have 3 boost levels at the push of a button, I also just bought the "remote switching system" for the profec, which is a wireless remote button that mounts to the steering wheel, now I can switch between high and low without taking my hand off the wheel, haven't played with it much yet, but I expect it will help with wheel spin on street tires. I ran my last motor nearly the same, except 20 psi high boost.
  6. I have been running an Innovative Turbo "pro-gate" adapter for the last 5 or 6 years, I had a shop in Houston weld it to the stock exhaust manifold as the adapter is also cast iron, then I spent mucho hours porting the T-3 manifold flange out to T-4 size, which there is plenty of material there to do, it just takes a long time, even with a diamond carbide cutter on a die grinder...
  7. De Tomaso Pantera, one of my all time favorite cars. I once rode in an early Pantera with a big block Chevy and absolutely HUGE flares, wheels and tires, it was amazing, what a car. I'd be very upset if I had one and had to treat it like that, hell, I'd put the oak dining room table and chairs out in the weather first! I wonder how many of them are still out there really, a guy who lives near me has one, but it's beat, paint is crap, visible rust holes and a smokey 351, but I'd still take it off his hands if the price was right! Imagine one with an '03 cobra engine in it, that'd be my first power plant choice anyway...
  8. Very nice looking road! wish there was some scenery like that here in North Texas! car looks like a decent starting point, but man, you've gotta fix that exhaust manifold leak! It's super loud in the vid, maybe less so in person? anyway, hooray for Spring! I'm headed out to pick up my chick for lunch in my 240, weather is very nice here today! Also, the wheels look good, I don't recall seeing another set quite like those. and I'm diggin the 280ZXT hood scoop, that will look killer with some paint!
  9. 11.51 is plenty stout! I bet I'll MPH pretty well, it ran 90.1 mph in the 1/8th here a couple months ago with the same tune, with lotsa spin in 1st-3rd, I did buy some 235-60-15 BFG drag radials and put them on some 15x8 sportmax wheels, but haven't tried them out yet. They closed the 1/8 mile strip that's kinda close to me (Kenndale) to repave it or something, but I think it's open again now. Let's maybe shoot for the first week or May to meet at Ennis? I'm way busy almost all of April at work, and weekends are going to be spent trying to bag a spring Turkey!
  10. Jeff, I don't think that stroker V-8 of yours has anything to worry about from my particular L6, we do need to hit up Ennis on a street car night though.
  11. olderthanme, Phil's 390 tq vs. my 365 tq?, how about the fact that he was running 7 psi or so more boost than I? I have no doubt there's a whole lot more left in my motor, I gained 75whp and 88wtq, with a 4 psi increase!!! what might my setup have done with 7 psi more boost??? another 100whp and like torque? who knows, and I'm not really interested in finding out, this is my daily driver street car, although I'm sure we could both make more power with some dyno tuning, not just a few pulls with a street tune, but I'm really not looking for any more power, my car will go completely sideways at 75mph on the highway the way it sits, so I am done, until I decide to cut the way too nice body for flares and much bigger tires, I really can't use any more power, except for maybe internet bragging, which I have zero interest in. My Z is a daily driven, pump gas, street car that I wouldn't hesitate to drive across the country if it struck me to, and I am finally satisfied with the power it makes, after a lot of years trying different set ups and tunes... I'll bet you a nickle that Phil will eventually make more power than me, I can see the wheels in his head turning even now... I built Phil's engine and did the intitial tune on his car (although he's been tuning it himself the last several months, they grow up so fast!) and I'll help him build the next one when this one goes BOOM, which I'm sure it will, he has some gene that gives him no mechanical empathy at all! I'm pretty much done with this 240z, but I've got another one that I'm seriously considering dropping an SR20DET into, there was a totally stock 240sx with a totally stock sr, with the tiny factory turbo turned up to 15 psi that made a rock solid consistent 258whp and 256wtq, I rode in it and it pulled hard and made very nice noises, the wheels in my head are doing a little turning too...
  12. I'm down for that Jeff, I just bought some 235-50-15 BFG drag radials and some sportmax wheels for them for the turbo car, can't wait to try them out, miight trailer the car in case it breaks though, I'm just a little over an hour to Ennis, but Big Phil is only like 15 minutes, the lucky dog!
  13. Thanks for the video B.P. I actually bought this car for my wife and gave it to her on Valentines day, it was pretty cool, she had a '78 when we were dating and gave it up for a Pathfinder when we started having kids a couple years later, she's pretty stoked about it. It's a '72, with an L26 (?) that is a smoker! but I have almost all the pieces for a nice L28 build, thinking I'll use the 40 DCOEs that are on it now, an E-88 I have and a lumpy Isky cam, it also has the nice 6-1 equal length header on it now, which I'll get ceramic coated and use. It needs a bunch of wiring work, almost nothing works and some of the engine and dash harnesses are really hacked. Mainly I bought it for the very nice body work and paint, it's pretty when it's clean! It actually drives pretty nice, even though the carbs are way out of tune. oh, and the guy that had it bolted the Zg's on and didn't cut the fenders, and I'm pretty sure the front flares are on backwards, shesh... finding 245-50-15 performance tires for the 15x9 rear SSR wheels is proving to be an issue. LaterZ!
  14. I saw this car in person a few years ago at Alamo Autosports in Arlington, it's VERY nice, neat and clean install and the chassis is ultra clean, whoever got it will enjoy it for sure. $7250???!!??! I bet that's way less than half of what the guy had in it, a steal for sure, and reminds me of why I'll never sell mine!
  15. Told ya so!!! :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
  16. I'm going to bed as I have to get up in a few hours to go to work. I'm helping Phil tune his car, and have read the posts so far... TimZ, I think maybe you posted backward on the less lash thing? less lash (reduced clearance between the rocker and cam) would result in increased actual lift and duration, more lash (larger distance between rocker and cam) would have the opposite effect. Maybe I'm just confusing 'more' and 'less' as it applies to valve clearance? Anyway, I have no doubt that Phil and I will figure out what is up with his cam swap. Goodnight!
  17. I second your call out there Tommy, I would pay money to see that. Might not be much of a challenge, I think she already kind of has a thing for B.P. but then, who doesn't?!?!? That technique would prolly be a hit at spring break...
  18. There you go, not an R-1, but a GSXR-1000 and a 959 RR if I remember correctly:razz: plus more fiddy stunts, Phil can correct me here if I'm wrong, but his 50 does have an 88cc or something kit in it... I wanna see some stoppies on the police bike... Howza bowdit Phillip?
  19. Very cool air rifles, I have an RWS, not nearly as fancy as any of those, but it works great on turtles in my parents bass pond!
  20. a 450 hp L engine with no engine pictures?!?!? you're fired! j/k cool pictures.
  21. Does Karen have little kayak floatation deals too? man I gotta see those!!! on a side note ShaggyZ, I DO dream about Velma and Daphne sometimes...
  22. Man, where'd you come up with that??? Phil and I did exactly that this weekend!!! you'd better quit dreaming about him, that's my wifes job, she'll be jealous!!! I can see it now, a youtube ShaggyZ dream sequence video... the truly weird thing is Phil does dress up like a cop and ride a police bike! he escorts funerals in the DFW area on the side for extra cash... weird. I laughed at the thought of Phil's wife Karen with little kayaks on her feet.
