  1. Hmmmmm don't know what to say, Except try to bypass your MBC althgether and see if you get your stock boost. If so start from there. Could be a worn or cruded up MBC(you know they are not a quality made high ticket item :) ).

Now to long of lines from your MBC to turbo and intake will cause a spiking (running high then going low boost). Might look and shorten your lines?

    Good luck

  2. Moby THANK YOU! You have cleared up alot of questions I had concerning MSS. I also see you put alot of time on your explaination of MSS which means alot. I guess I need to take the first step tward hands on experience to get my feet wet. But that may take awhile due to my commitments (family and business).

Man you really did good. Please keep us updated with your important "ROAD TEST" In the future. I'm looking forward to really seeing MSS come together in REALIFE!!

Thank you for the time you spent explaining MSS!

  3. I guess I should wait till your "artical" comes out in print. But

Some of the questions I've wondered:

Would our 280zxt dist (crank angle sensor) be compatable as a "fixed trigger".

Possibly listing options in your parts list of what is required along with optional places to locate them:)

Including being able to trash the AFM :D for what type Mass air sensor?

I'm mentioning these questions/ideas for possible inclusion in your award winning artical .

Cause I know you and Benard and others have been discussing off and on for awhile. Just thought putting it all together would be awhsome!

    Just a thought.

Believe me I realize there aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish family/Job etc. Then spoon feed us hybriders on all your experience/wisdom/scars.....concerning MSS

  4. Boy! I had to do a double take at this browzer website for a second. I thought I accidently entered http://www.cool-sound-no-HP-ricer.com :D .

Blow off valve; At high boost when you shift your turbo is spinning fast. Your BOV bypasses turbo boost back into your intake (between AFM and turbo for a stock ZXT; or into atmosphere if you have later FMS) so you don't just stop your turbo in its tracks causing you to possibly damage your turbo and also have to re-spool all over again in the next gear.

I guess everytime you shift you can yell PSSSSSSSSS..SHITTTT...unless its winter and then they couldn't hear you with the window rolled up! :malebitchslap: :puke:

  5. Thanks for the input guys.

During summer I adjusted my air (Boost) to my maxed out fuel systum. I was running 17/18 psi boost on stock t-3 @ 42 psi fuel pressure. 370's. 60mm TB, NPR I/C, 2 1/2" DP, 3" exaust. 83 STOCK electronics :|

    Ran nice.

Now with the weather colder. I noticed the dreaded rattle/ping of detonation.

My antiquated adjustments I have to work with are as follows:

    Timing

    FPR

    Dawes (Grainger) Boost adjuster

    AFM

Now with my fuel pretty well maxed out. That leaves my Boost controller (my air control) as only adjustment.

I Have the AFM and that will adjust air/fuel mix according to air temp, to an extent. But at WOT shoving 18psi I wouldn't think to much temp adjusting with AFM is happening :D Kinda like force feeding air. Since air is denser when colder as compaired to summer (like a awhsome wintertime I/C :-D ). And as mentioned before; I had everything adjusted or maxed out for summer. Using what I have to work with. I just figured that the colder condensed air changes the senerio to where I need to lower the boost to adjust my mix

Just wondering If you guys with similar setups; came up with same theory.

  6. You know if you unplug then plug back in the connector to your ECU. It seems to clear things up!!!!!!!!!!........ :D ...........Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Sorry guys had to say it too!

But really; it got to the point where I resoldered all my connections trying to find the reason why my car started cutting out and running crappy at WOT (or trying to get there). Even the mechanic I bought my Z from three years ago told me if it runs crappy wiggle the wires connecting to your ECU. It works, I notice it more in the winter than summer.

Be sure to brace yourself if your driving and you wiggle :-D . Because when I bought the car I had to repair the windshield due to previous owner wiggled while driving and his foot was still on the accelerator :malebitchslap: :cry2:

I guess we just need to remember that these cars (and wires are over thirty years old!). Another reason to convince myself to pay $1,400 plus for a stand alone FMS.. :D

  7. The picture Yo last posted are the clamps I use. You can pick them up at a NAPA auto supply for about $4 a piece. Bring the dia pipe and hose you plan to use so you buy the correct dia. Since they aren't as adjustable as reg. hose clamps. Also a trick I used from installing MTB grips is wipe outside of pipe and inside of hose with alcohol (to get slippery grease/grime off). Then clamp or added ins. apply hairspray (don't know if you young guys remember what that is :D )or even lightly coat with spray adheasive on critical areas. I run 15 to 18 psi. boost no problem.

  8. As cygnusx1 mentioned :Both;

In the 280ZXT drive it; dial it in; get the bugs out. Don't touch any of the "wires or sensors" till its dependable. Then when you do the swap. Install into your Z and "dial it in again". You'll find serious power just "stock". When you have got all the gremlins out. THEN slowly "clean it up. But that should be your last stage.

  9. Hey, If you want something with as much power as a V8 don't overlook a Turbo! Yea baby! Want a power that pushes you back in your seat! Just start keeping an eye out for a 81 to 83 280ZX Turbo for cheap. So you can do an engine swap in that 240. Man feel the power! Start reading the posts in the turbo section of Hybrid to get an idea. But enjoy what you got for right now. Read and do your homework and you'll find serious power in a 280 ZXTurbo take my word for it. I've upped the boost in my 280ZX turbo and its night and day difference from stock. Your car is about 700 lbs. lighter! You'll read about guys doing high 12's in a 240 or even 280 Z with a 81 to 83 280ZXT engine switch (along with larger TB, I/C, larger injectors basicly cheap upgrades for the power you achieve).

Just something else to think about! Remember your just starting. Don't just jump into anything. Look at all your options. Be Patient. If you want a Turbo you can find them for $400 to $1500 in the paper. Just be patient!!!!

  10. Good site thanks CZ.

Moving to San Angelo from Japan Hmmm... hope you have air conditioning for that mean machine. I watched my daughter play soccer against the collage team down there. Figure it gets real hot during the summer. I we hit 105 regularly during the summer in OKC.

Good time to retire from the Marines. My niece is heading for the middle east in three weeks for the Army. We pray alot.

  11. I see both sides. When I was a newbe I needed help (still do :-D ). I got real pissed if I thought someone talked down to me. But I was thankful when Superdan first built the search function and even more thankful when I learned how to use it. I was impressed with all the information available. Although now I realize as time goes by the search gets cluttered with the same old same old. That's what I think some people get excited about. Don't think suggesting to do a search to a newbe is wrong. Now the way you suggest it; thats another story.

I guess I was doing it wrong but I always used the sub catagories of this "message boards" as a "data warehouse" and then go to Non tech board for discussions personal perferences etc. the question is where does one start and the other one end? I don't know that either. I guess its everyone's personal preference and responsibility to try to do the right thing. Hey and some of both the older and newer guys have gotten burned out writing the same response over and over again wishing for a new and exciting topic.

As Bruce Lee (although I don't think he worked on cars) said "Absorbe what is useful"; disregard the rest.

But don't overlook the fact this is a pretty good site for the information you get.

Yea! silly arguement. full of personal opinions I'm done:)

  12. Sorry just one more thing. Then "nuf said".

Guys think of it as cleaning out you shop. Put your tools here subcatagorize them into woodworking, auto, welding etc. Just like Hybrid. I think the best of both worlds would be to place pure information; specifications; ways of accomplishing a particular project. In our specialized subcatagories provided at Hybrid. This will prevent us from ruining the awhsome ingenius tool called "search".

See I've been around awhile on this site. A long time, even before I regestered. I remember alot of VERY informative posts. Sometimes can't find them. Or find real hard to find due to excess non-tech stuff in our specific sub-catagories. I know one mans garbage is another mans riches but try real hard (I have a problem alot of times too) If you start out "which is better" without first "searching" Don't just NOT POST go ahead and put it in "NON-Tech board" to obtain personal opinions. I know alot of grey areas to what I say and who's to decide because we don't have same knowledge base so to do things right I figure first "search" then "NoN-Tech Board". Then if you really need exact figures and don't find them in "search" or "NON-Tech Board" Hey Post that baby in our highly specialized regular sub-catagories. Lets protect our natural resources..Don't litter :-D (and I'm not saying this post is litter either just hoping to establish peace and harmony and tidyness in this world and our website)..(did I say that?)

  13. That sounds great! You did good. You can have alot of fun with a 240. The guy works at a bodyshop could be good. But also can be bad since he can do a good job of covering things up. Since it was his car figure he repaired the body rust the right way. New paint job is a real plus.

Cracked dash can be fixed easily with a dash cover (around $69 to $89).

Since you are not restoring it back original you can buy a pair of Mazda Miata seats for around $100 bucks. They feel great and some even have stereo speakers in the headrest. Then sell the good Z seat on e-bay or here.

Buy carpet from J.C. Whitney for around $90 you may also reinstall padding and sound deadener, examine the floorpans and firewall from the inside.

    The fun is just starting...

    Good Luck
