  1. Ahhhhhhhhh! John, Next thing your gonna say is there really isn't a Santa Claus or Easter Bunny :) ! Bust my bubble why don't you!

John's right. Remember the 240's are 30+ years old, traveled across the Big salt water corrosion infested Pacific to get here. At that time didn't even have very good shipping containers or corrosion resistent coatings.

  2. Yea distributor is in front of engine behind the water pump. Dont understand air cleaner on top of engine. Normally you have it located on the front in front of your throttle boddy and mas air senson. Also 99 vett's I don't believe had Lt-1's usally LS'1's.

Does it have a carb.? under that air cleaner if so you have a old model SBC 350 early 80's. But a T-56 6 speed Hmmmm? To be sure check your numbers on your block. Better yet (and faster) Look on a corvette website and see if your engine and engine in a 99 vette look the same http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com With regards to your JTR your engine distributor should be about 1/2 an inch from the firewall, Scarab the engine is located a bit farther forward.

  3. I didn't know your strictly planning 1/4 till after I posted. That's why I was quoting JTR concerning the 350 and 400 tranny's. Yea 400's are heavy. Myself I plan on a T-56 when I can get some of these other projects along with a bunch of honeydo's completed!

  4. Took the words right out of my laptop. I remember the JTR book mentioned the same thing concerning the auto 350 or even the 400's . No overdrive which means high rpm on Hwy; more vibration also means bad gas mileage. I'd suggest a 86 or newer 700-R4 (4L60) Remember the 94 or newer 4L60-E are electronically controlled and require a computer. Since you have a Lt-1 you may already have a auto tranny computer for your EMS.

  5. Be patient! every week pick up a bargain post or trader mag (along with want ads in your area). Get an idea on price ranges of decient Z's. In Oklahoma I've seen good running rust free 280's for around $3,000 (common Z's run around $600 to $1500). Remember sometimes paying a bit more for a rust free Z is better than spending forever repairing a rusted one. 240's are harder to find.

You have your head straight; on buying one, then driving it awhile. Get an idea of what you have. Hey even have fun with it. Since you may not stay stock; did you ever wonder how a stock 280z engine would run on NOS( yea baby!) I'm sorry; just started thinking; sometimes it get me in trouble :D.

Enjoy the cheap value of a Z car while you can, because as time goes on the price of Z's WILL go up due to guys like us running into ditches! Then needing parts cars to repair ours!

You are at the right Website read and learn!

    Wish you the best!

  6. sounds like you need more air. Didn't notice on your signature. Did you install a 60mm TB (240sx or such)? Possibly retard your timing a bit? Other than that all you got is your Boost (increasing your boost can also add more air), AFPR (be carful not to lower it to much you still need bunches of gas at WOT), and AFM to play with (try it different settings; tighten that spring).

  7. Doing fine Scott. Replaced rug in our house with Armstrong make believe wood floor.

Just returned from Northern California where I spent 2 1/2 weeks installing a few doors and hauling 6 p/u loads of garbage from my mother's house. Oh yes I saw the ocean thru the front window of her house but that was as far as I got to it. I am trying to convince my mother to move to Oklahoma near family. Not making much headway!

In other words haven't done as much as wanted on my Z.

On the way back from CA. picked up a R&T Mag. read a writeup on a "Lotus Elise" coming to america.Stock it uses a Toyota VVTL-i 180bhp (variable -valve timing and lift engine found in a Celica GT-S and will do the 1/4 mile in about 12 sec. top speed of 141 mph). So lets dream a bit. Oh yea Price tag of $40,000 but dam if I had the money.... if I have the money......I guess..... I wouldn't be working on Z's .....Huh!

  8. I figured it out......If I paint my car Orange (about the color of Scott's or Jerseys) it will get you into the 12's. Now if you install beautiful orange trim interior 11's are there (are you listening Len). I know I know other colors have done it but it was a bit harder (not to lessen the milestone you guys have crossed or the sweat and blood and frustration you went thru doing it). Dang that was easy! You guys need me to solve anything else for you :D

  9. Dam Scotty! I can feel you grinning all the way to Oklahoma :D You did real good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Son of a gun! What do you say! That's some good driving with a well tweeked car! I agreed on that 7 come ELEVEN !! second 1/4 mile :-D . Something to think about this winter if you can't get on the track before next spring!

  10. Sorry Chris. Can't really help you with exact figures, since I installed my I/C, 240 TB,3" exaust, 2 1/2" DP, 370 injectors, about the same time. Haven't dynoed it yet, was out of tune when I did the 1/4.

All I can say the above mods really make a difference, am boosting at around 16psi runs real strong. Your exaust is really the best mod. But I/C really helps support all the other mods.

  11. Thanks for the response Chris. Sorry I invaded your thread :rolleyesg: I am really glad to see you guys setting up the Haltec. Seems like the best way to go. It will be awhile before I purchase one. Its is in my future plans. So for right now I'll just be quiet and read how you solve your problems :D

    Good Luck!

  12. Wow guys!

This is exciting! I've really wanted to learn more about the Haltec. I even tried contacting them in Australia, really couldn't get very good info on what I would need to run my 1983 280zxt. The way you explained its operation really makes sense. Thank you.

Where did you buy your Haltec's?

Do you reccomend the E6K for what we do with our 280zxt's ball park figure on what cost would be?

What type of support do you have. Is Australia really only support?

  13. Rebel

I just gotta know which wire excites my alternator. I had a love affair with my 280 zxt for a few years now. Anything I can do to please her I would do! :-D If it only takes a certain wire to get her excited then hey! I'll go for it. Because I feel nothing is to good for my babe! :D

Sorry if I got carried away. Its just one of those "Z" things!

  14. My wife is trying to get me to the eye Doc. I just may take her up on it concerning reading & seeing things closeup!

Sean is trying to make the most of his summer before school (can't blame him) so car is on back burner for now. I've promised myself to do nothing unless he is there with me to work on HIS car. So I'm back working on my Z and my Fiat for now. Thanks again for the pointers :) .

Benefit of a 70 Hemi Coda (awsome!) is you dump in a whole lot more money before it will turn into a cost to value overrun!
