I would recommend locking a fan in place by sticking a screwdriver between the blades, and then using full force blowing air out. I clean out my computer cases with my air compressor, actually. As long as the fans don't move, it should be ok. For laptops, use tiny screw drivers for watch repair, or a straightened paper clip A lot of people don't realize just how bad dust is for computers. It's essentially insulation that works really well. My advice is also keep the computers off carpeted floors, as they become giant dust magnets.

Well, the best thing about resetting your ECU is that it's free
-
this might sound stupid, but have you hit a bad streak of red lights? my mazda 3 can eek out 31mpg on highway, but once i get into the city, fuel economy dies. this weekend i drove around parking lots more than usual, and city driving brought my average from 29mpg to 26. other than that, try resetting your ECU. disconnect battery for 5 minutes or so, or unplug the ecu for the same amount of time. it might take 200-400 miles for the ecu to recalibrate itself, so you may get worse than advertised fuel economy for that time as it uses default mapping

It's about 180 lbs, pretty sure not that it's not over 200. Will you be in town on Fri? I actually have that day off. Otherwise, I don't get out of work until about 7pm, and I work in Sunnyvale. I'll try to give you a call tonight or tomorrow, thanks again for the offer, very awesome of you -

John, that's exactly why I didn't want to ship - too much effort involved! -
Tips for shipping an engine across the country?
auxilary replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
it's a rotary, roughly 2x2x2 feet with intake manifolds removed. intake manifolds probably can fit into a 2x2x1 area. and thanks! -
I am trying to sell the 13b-re rotary locally, but no one seems to be interested. However, tons of people on east coast want the motor. Since it's taking up space in the garage and not doing me any good, I am now entertaining the ideas of shipping it to other states. I've never crated and shipped a motor before, so.... what would I need to do, where do I go for packing materials, etc? What companies should I consider using for freighting it? Do they pick the package at my residence or do I have to deliver it? (makes it more difficult, as I am lacking a truck and a forklift). Total noob, so any useful information you throw my way will be much appreciated! Thanks!

My turn to seek advice about bikes and relationships

She'll ride with me. In fact, today we got her gloves and jacket (at her request). Goddamn women and their mixed signals. -

My turn to seek advice about bikes and relationships
auxilary replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
I am pretty sure her opinion is locked. I will just get her used to the current bike, so there is less anymosity towards them in general. I have a bike now, I will ride it more and take her with me. Knowing her, if she read this thread she would get more upset because she would feel more guilty. I am not losing much, I still have a bike -
My turn to seek advice about bikes and relationships
auxilary replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
Michael nailed it. She is worried about me riding and something happening to me. She didn't tell me I can't buy it, she asked/begged me not to. She's not dumb and knows the difference between a 650 and a liter bike, but I don't abuse the power. Logically, it makes no sense since I already have a bike, it would be a lateral move on the physical plane: remove one, insert other. But then again, logic does not apply in this case. Hiding it from her would be difficult, since we live together. I also rarely ride in traffic, if ever. Bike is for weekends and non-populated freeways and roads. She has also ridden with me on the bike (and I gear up head to toe, and did as much with her as possible when she rode), and I think the reason she rode with me is to accept the bike and get used to it. Apparently it hasn't really worked yet. It just sucks that I don't go riding mostly out of fear of upsetting and worrying her. But, I've also gone through 4 bikes (no wrecks yet, knock on wood), and 12 years of having an M1 license. Trbulnt: she's read that piece before when it originally surfaced on the jeep forums and was apparently very offended by it. Last night we had a long talk about many things. She confided in me that she should've said she didn't approve of the first bike, rather than encourage me, and that she did it because it was early in the relationship and she didn't want to make me lose interest in her. She also said "you can do whatever you want, I'll get used to it". And we all know what that really translates to. I think I decided to pass on the FZ1 for the sake of the relationship. -
When I started dating my gf, she found out I used to ride, and began encouraging me to get another bike. I complied, and found a bike I wanted. I was looking for something simple, comfortable and upright, and didn't want balls-to-the-wall power. So I found this ~72hp Kawasaki 650r: When she found out I committed to buy it (left a deposit), she freaked out, and wouldn't even drive me to pick up the bike. She suddenly realized she 'hated' the bike. She wouldn't even go near it for 3 months. However, continued to encourage me that she would get used to it, went out for a few rides with me, claimed it was fine and she liked it. Recently, a friend of mine offered me his 2005 Yamaha FZ1. It's a liter bike, 140 or so HP, heftier. It's upright, comfortable (I think randy77 has one too), comes with adjustable suspension (something my bike lacks, I can only change pre-load), etc. Coincidentally, a coworker wants to buy my 650r. Price difference? For $200 I can upgrade to a liter bike. With mods. Now, I mentioned going to friend's house to testride his bike, and if she would be OK with it. For change, she did not beat around the bush and stated that she hates my current bike, and will hate the new one even more. Why? Because, she claims, it's too powerful, I'm at a bigger risk (I've been riding since 2000, on my 4th bike now, and never ride without being geared head to toe), etc etc. Because of how she already felt, I've probably put 1,000 miles at best on my bike in 1 year, and that's being generous. Part of me wants to comply, part of me wants to rebel, part of me wants to not give in, and part of me wants to just give up and sell everything off. I went on a long 4-5 hour ride by myself when she went to Germany, and as my cousin pointed out to me... it was liberating. What is the HBZ advice in this situation? (oh, and FZ1 picture for reference)

yasin: i've been living with my gf almost a year, so when HOA complained about washing her car, i was technically washing the bird crap off a tenant's car. Not a rule violation. And yeah, extra $700/month or so is nice. It's a pretty good setup - only 1 shared wall, and between the next unit and our place are 2 bathrooms, so I never hear my neighbors. dan: i've only moved once within the last 10 years, sadly. And I haven't complained about the neighbors here until now. And it's just one neighbor, that doesn't even live close enough to our place. And come on, live within 10 miles of you? I visited capt_furious, and felt the forces shift in the darker direction because I was in close proximity to your house! (it could have also been a bowel movement) My landlord called them nazis and laughed it off. Told me that they were listing these as 'possible violations' and he would clear this up.

That being said, why would anyone want a v6 camaro?
-
It wasn't meant as an insult, I just advise people against getting 145+ hp bikes as their first ones. It's a lot of power that requires self control. What my comment meant was that don't let the bike take you where you don't want to take the bike. If that makes sense, it's essentially cautioning about self control.

Well, in suburban california, trying to find a house (not a flat) to rent (not own) is kind of like finding a left hand drive car in NZ

1. Complaint about a table folded up sitting in the front patio [which actually faces inside the complex], which, according to the complaint, is apparently rotting away (it isn't, but ok, this is a valid complaint. I will move the table) 2. On president's day, between 6pm and 8pm I was in the garage cleaning up, organizing tools, etc. with the garage door open. No music blasting, no power tools, no welding. Just cleaning up. Apparently, someone didn't like that I was in the garage cleaning, so the complaint stated that there is a car in middle of restoration in the garage on blocks, and with the garage door open it's offensive. WHAT. THE. ****. I can swap capt_furious's ******* engine during the whole weekend, welding, grinding, running air compressor, and that's ok. But to clean my garage is problematic? 3. The last notice was about me using complex's water (water is free here, part of HOA fees) to wash other people's cars. It specifically cited that tenants are only allowed to wash cars belonging to tenants of that household. Now, I have been slacking off washing my car (or any car!) for 3 months now, so how could it be that someone complained about me doing this? Oh that's right... my gf's car got royally **** on by birds, so I pulled it up in front of our household to wash it off on a Saturday afternoon. It took all of 5 minutes or so. But some worthless sack of **** complained about THAT? I mean, first of all, she's a tenant, since we live together. Second, the car's been washed many times, full wash and sometimes a wax. I ******* hate people, I really really really do.

if you got an r1 for a first bike... make sure your brain is able to get to your destination before the bike does.

JCI T56 trans mount issue?
auxilary replied to auxilary's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
So, I've not worked on my car in a year. It's sad. But I bring this thread up because I was cleaning the garage, and I was about to toss the stock GM trans crossmember (I have no idea why I kept it) when this caught my eye: The damn stock mount is angled... now, I tried to move it by hand, not possible. I don't think I've ever loosened that up since I just dropped the motor and trans straight from under the camaro when I pulled it. I know the car has been in an accident where frame rails got moved, so maybe this was the result? Or maybe there's a design issue with the trans mount itself. Basically, the mount needs spacers between floorboards and the mount. If I jack it up as it sits without spacing it out, the tunnel will be resting on the transmission. I'm going to start wrenching on it again within a week or two, and hopefully actually have a running Z. Hopefully. -
So you want to swap a ROTARY into your Z! (how-to)

Someone actually did a complete 3 rotor swap on a Z http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/matthew-clemeshas-20b-rotary-powered-73-240z http://www.viczcar.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=254 -
Reminds me of this girl that used to work reception at a company I worked at almost 10 years ago. She lived with her parents, drove a truck she got from her dad who was paying insurance on it, and had a full time job. Granted, I doubt being a receptionist yielded a huge income, but someone working 40 hours a week with no serious living expenses should be able to save. She would always complain about being broke. While talking to her, I also found out she went out drinking 3-5 times a week. Now, this wasn't a particularly attractive girl, so it's relatively apparent she wasn't getting free drinks. I asked her how much she'd spend on average per night going out. "$70-100" ... I quickly pulled up a sheet of paper, threw together some numbers, showing her that she was blowing out between $800 to $2000 per month. Her jaw dropped. Within 2 months, she was able to save up enough money, moved out on her own.

Beats me. I think he bought the mounts almost a year ago, maybe more. He should also buy my exhaust and downpipe, since it's designed for that swap -

Heh, unfortunately I dropped the rotary swap a couple years ago. I now have an LS1 sitting in a Z, still unfinished. See a pattern here? A HBZ member, berkeley101, bought my front crossmember and tranny mount.
