  1. I was over at zcar.com and some one mentioned using urethane foam to firm up the Z. They were using it in the rocker panels. Has any one over here heard of or done such a thing? I am putting in a S&W 8 point roll bar but any thing extra can't hurt. I hear that some of the new cars use this method. Dave...
  2. Myron.. Only the R180 have the bolts holding the seal retainer. If there are no bolts around the side axles it is a R200. It is very easy to tell on any Z just look at the side of the diff from the front of the rear tire. Somebody has swapped the R200 for a R180 in your 78. Dave...
  3. S&W Race Cars still has the sale going www.swracecars.com is the web page. Dave...
  4. Hey guys I used the summit block huggers and they work fine. I took a small grinding stone to them to kleen up some of the welds. For the price they are hard to beat. One small note though they won't work on angle plug heads. Dave....
  5. Instead of going that route why not try using a 300ZX rear differential mount. It will still leave the R200 suspended on rubber mounts. And allow you to remove the mustache bar. It looks like it will will clear the gas tank, and with a simple plate it will bolt to the cross member just above the differential. Dave... 6. Hi Scott.. I live in the Pacific North West and I have used the stock 71Z radiator for the last couple years with no problems. My car is also a mild 350 with a TH350. Dave...
  7. I think the offset is for two reasons The first is so the exaust will clear the steering shaft and the second is to offset the weight of the driver. Dave...
  8. I saw that muffin fan fix when I had the overheating problem. I had picked up a couple of them and was going to install the fans. But when I removed the hood the problem went away. I have since switched to the vented hood. The 77-78 hood is not a cure all for the under hood heat but it shure helped. Dave...
  9. Mike.. Have you tried driving the car with the hood off? Are you using a 77-78 vented hood? I thought that I had a cooling problem and in the process of checking it out I took the hood off my 71 and there was not any overheating any more. The non vented hood traps a lot of heat. Dave.... 12. Is there anyone in this group that is using a differential cooler? What I would like to find out is how much heat in the LSD is too much and how the coolers are connected and what method is used to circulate the oil. There must be a heat issue with the LSD or else Nissan would not be using the finned rear cover. Dave... V8-240Z@juno.com
  13. Thanks for the info guys. The engine that I am looking at is a fresh 1986 350 with flat top pistons and 202 76cc heads. the cam in this engine is the 327 350hp hyd. I figure the compression is 9 to 1 and it should be about 300hp. I can see that I do need to use the 86 168 tooth 14" flex plate but I still don't know if the th350 converter will bolt up and if my 6" harmonic balancer will work. I have built all my own engines in the past but at $450 this is hard to pass up. it is a quality rebuild that was going in a RX7 until the guy lost interest in the project. Dave.... v8-240Z@juno.com
  14. I am working on replacing the ailing 350 in my 71Z I have found a 1986 350 with the 1 piece rear main seal. I at the moment have a 75 350 with a TH350 will my flex plate and balancer work on the 86 engine? If they don't what fits? The 86 has a flex plate on it but the flex plate has a large weight attached to it and the balancer has been removed. How does this engine differ from the early 350's? Dave....
  15. The flange that JTR sells is a NEAPCO 2-2-899-1 Dave..
  16. Does any body know the part number of the spicer heavy duty U joint used in the 70-78Z half shaft? My local parts store can't seem to find anything in the spicer catalog. Ya guys got a great web page going here. Dave... V8-240Z@juno.com [This message has been edited by Dave (edited February 16, 2000).]
