  1. I knew that the 280ZXT CV's were almost too long to fit well and the outer flange would only fit the 240's outer axle. I am hoping that there was room in the adapter for the Z31 CV to bolt it to the outer flange instead of welding it to the outer flange. If it needs to be welded then I will have to swap the outer axles in my 240 for some out of a 280. I have the R200LSD in place so all I need to do is fit the Z31 CV's in there to see how much room I have to play with. When I removed the R200LSD and CV's from the 88 Turbo there was room to compress the CV's and swing them out once they were unbolted from the outer flanges. I would be one happy camper if I can get the same fit in my 71.
  2. Your early 74 should have the same outer axles as my 240. The stock 280ZXT outer CV flanges will fit the smaller 240 outer axles but will not fit the larger 280Z outer axles.
  3. I also have a set of the 280ZXT CV's and outer flanges. Are the adapters you bought from Ross C. welded to the outer flanges? I saw that the 6 bolt R230 adapters in another post were bolted to the axle flanges. Is your 260Z a early or late 74?
  4. My Z31 Turbos are like yours with the cage and 6 balls and the 4 bolt flange. Are the non Turbo 6 bolt 300ZX's a tripod like the 280ZXT's?
  5. I also was playing with the ball and cage and noticed that the race of the tripod that fits on the spline is tapered on the one side more than the other side. So that when that is flipped the taper is against the outer snap ring, did you see that? It looks like the inner part may need to be left in its original position and only the cage flipped if the extra room is needed.
  6. I guess this weekend I will pull the jointed 1/2 shafts, the differential side axles and put in the 300ZX Turbo CV shafts to see if the length is correct.
  7. My 71 240Z has a R200 clutch type LSD and the stock U-jointed 1/2 shafts. I have the 300ZX Turbo CV's that came with the R200 LSD and want to use them instead of the 280ZX Turbo CV's. Some one on this site has done this swap but I have spent the last hour trying to find who did it with no luck. I think that the outer ball and cage assembly needed to be turned around to make the CV assembly shorter. I have the pictures of the outer adapter to mate the CV to the axle flange, so that much I have figured out. I just need the info about what needs to be done to use the 300ZX Turbo CV's. Here is the picture of the adapters I saw
  8. The outside diameter of the 240 -early 260 strut cartridge is 2.02 inch and the late 260-280 strut is 2.185 in
  9. The French decision to not go along on this one will come back to haunt them. And now they found documentation that shows the Russians spied on Blair for Saddam.
  10. The bigger mustache bar on top is for a R200. Notice also the hole size and spacing where the differential bolts to the mustache bar.
  11. Left side 1/2 shaft (CV) stick is 1/2" shorter than the right side. You can use the left side stick in right side to free up a little room. I also have some info on the spindle pin puller Here
  12. For a half-century, this village of 60 people with a police force of 11 has harvested a run-down, one-fifth-mile stretch of U.S. 40 near Columbus for millions of dollars in traffic fines. In good years, police bring in more than $400,000, more than 90% of town revenue. Nearly all of the money goes back into the police force. http://www.newromesucks.com
  13. Looks like a none of a kind to me now.

  15. The stock spring diameter is 4 3/8" Here is some info on stock springs and how I arrived at it. SPRINGS front springs are different in the 71 right spring is longer. Rear springs are the same. FRONT SPRINGS 71-73 24OZ Wire Size-----------.425 Spring Length------15 1/4" Right side, 14 3/4" Left side Spring Rate---------1OOlb REAR SPRINGS 71-73 24OZ Wire Size-----------.452 Spring Length------15" Both sides the same Rate-----------------13Olb FRONT SPRINGS 2+2 75Z wire size----------.458 Spring Length------15 3/8" Both the same Rate----------------145lb To check spring rate use a bathroom scale and a drill press. Put the spring holder on the top of the spring and a couple pieces of wood on the scale and put pressure till you hit 5Olbs on your scale then set the inch dial on the drill press to 1,2,or what ever then from the 5Olbs point apply one dial inch worth of pressure and what your scale reads will be your spring rate!
  16. I also found that once the Urethane bushings and inner sleeves are in the control arm, it won't fit on to the strut!!! so the fix is to put only the outer bushing and sleeves in the control arm. Now put a one foot long piece of 5/8" all thread rod through the control arm and put 2 nuts and washers on the inside and spread the opening so it measures 5 1/2" from the inner faces of the control arm (there are no inner bushings). Now once the threaded rod is removed the control arm will spring back some. Using the threaded rod again put the inner bushings in place on each side and with the nuts and washers pull the inner and outer bushings and sleeves in place. The control arm between the bushings now should measure 5 5/16" If you still need to spread the opening some DON'T DO IT WITH THE BUSHINGS IN PLACE the force of spreading the control arm will tear up the bushings.
  17. Hi pipelayer, Here is a thread that covers the same problem that has a happy ending Click Here!
  18. I also would like to know what works for 280ZX front caliper brake line when used on a early Z. The stock one will not work unless there is a adapter of some some sort to couple it to the ZX caliper
