  1. Damn, wasn't aware that Summit was selling these LS7's. The price is almost reasonable I think: 13k http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2D17802397&N=115&autoview=sku
  2. How about a independent rear diff stronger then the r230. Thats What I'm trying to look into. From what I can tell, the stock supra mk4 rear diff is very strong. There are drag cars in the low 8's on TRD diff. I just dont see the advantage to a narrowed 8.8" or 9" if you can cut good 60fts with a indpendent rear that will hold together. At what point does the R230 start having issues? Z-Gad and JNJ have really pushed the R200, and it has definitely brought me to attention. Regards, Justin
  3. I think this is a great idea. I'd been nice to see the top 25 to start out atleast. That wouldn't be too big of an undertaking.
  4. This is my favorite picture out of the bunch. I think Black top with dark silver lower, and keep the wheels polished
  5. Well It looks like its been proven that the 2jzgte is a serious conder as far as drag racing is concerned. With Z Gad just hitting a 9.5@ 145 I'm really questioning if I need anything faster then that. It seems that a 2jzgte would make the perfect driver for me since it wouldn't be as loud as a v8 with exhaust, plus it should get comparable if not better mileage. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=110473 Anyway, Just thinking this through. Justin
  6. What are you guys thoughts between these two swaps. From what I can tell the ls1, t56 swap is about the same weight that a 2jzgte swap. You get nearly twice the displacement with the same weight. Someone talk me out of putting one in and then turboing it down the road. Just seems logical to me. Why do a Rb or 2jz if the LSx are so light and potent? http://www.brokenkitty.com/zcar/zcar.htm If I do a 2jz I'm likely going to put a turbo 400 transmission behind it with the Ross machine Racing adapter plate and flex plate: http://www.rossmachineracing.com/billetacc.html So what is your vote? Sleeved ls2 block with ls7 heads and some nitrous, or a 2jz with a gt47-80 and a th 400. I want a serious car, and am just trying to figure out what direction to travel. Regards, Justin
  7. Sounds good to me. I'm either doing a BBC 427 or a 500 caddy. Justin
  8. Well, it looks like I've finaly figured out what wheels to get for my Z. I was driving home yesterday when a 350z pulled up next to me at a light. I looked over and saw these wheels and decided then and there that I needed a set on my car. So the main thing I need to do at the same time is change over to 5 bolt ups and upgrade the brakes. Has anyone tried using the Brembos off of the 350z? I found this picture of J Taylors car with 18" 350Z wheels, but I like the track edition much better personally. Regards, Justin
  9. I would try to retain the factory rails, but I want to place the s2k seat as low as possible to give me room for the helmet clearance when I install a roll cage. I'm going to more then likely weld up some brackets off of the factory seat cross members so I can just bolt the s2k seats in without modifying them, or ruining my spare 280z seats. I would also like to retain the ability to put the stock seats back in if I decide to. Regards, Justin
  10. I test fitted the seats this weekend. The s2000 rails are a couple inches wider then the 280z seats. The s2k rails are also longer. I'm not sure what the end solution will be. I'm meeting up with my fabricator this weekend to get it sorted out. Also, a odd thing to note, the inside rails that are next to the tunnel are shorter then the outside rails on the s2k seats. On a good note, the s2k seats fit just about perfectly, and they are about the same weight as my stock 280z vinyal seats. They have much better support, and are way more comfortable then my factory seats. I Think I got a rather good deal on the seats as I payed $530 for the pair + gas money to pick them up. Regards, Justin
  11. Thats the thing, the motor is ingesting a set amount of air regardless of intercooler design. It is only flowing that set amount. With equal volume cores, it takes the the same amount of time for set amount of air to pass through the core. Regards, Justin
  12. Vertical flows are more efficient with everything else being equal. The reason for this is due to the number of passages the charge air has to go through. A vertical flow will have twice as many passages as a horizontal flow core(when comparing a 24"X12" core). Due to the inherent greater cross sectional area, while retaining equal volume, the velocity of air through a vertical flow intercooler is half that of a horizontal flow. The air spends the same amount of time in the intercooler, although it only travels half the distance. Half the distance traveled through a restriction = less pressure drop and more power. Also the lower velocity helps lower pressure drop. Derivation for Flow in a Pipe: A = Cross-sectional Area of Pipe (SI: m2) v = Velocity of the fluid in the pipe (SI: m/s)
  13. Doing a vertical flow intercooler would be great. I'm actually looking around for a good unit. We'll see what I come up with. Regards, Justin
  14. I would really like to use a high quality garrett bar and plate intercooler core. I would like to do a backdoor intercooler design so that I can fit the largers intercooler with minumal charge piping. Regards, Justin
  15. This is a good deal on the ez mini 12circuit unit. That should be plenty for a Z. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EZ-WIRING-12-CIRCUIT-HOT-ROD-WIRING-HARNESS_W0QQitemZ4629278307QQcategoryZ42606QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting
  16. I just found a set of honda s2000 seats that I'm going to pick up this weekend. I'm going to rewire the whole car with a EZ wiring mini 20 circuit harness, then recarpet it and mount the seats. I dont know if I can do it all in this one weekend, but I'll do my best With new carpet and these seats I think the interior of this old Z is going to be drastically transformed Heres the wiring kit I'm using: http://www.ezwiring.com/minitwenty.htm Regards, Justin
  17. What type of core does JG use? I feel that a core near 5" thick is going to have trouble passing air to the radiator. What type of overheating issues have you seen with a core so thick.
  18. Anyone try to mount one of these larger 31"*10.3"*3.5" intercooler. I have one from another project that I'm going to try and get fitted. I'm going to take out the stock grill and turn signals to free up some extra room for it. I think it will look great filling out almost all of the room between the grill and air dam. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Precision-Turbo-Front-Mount-Intercooler-750-hp_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ107066QQitemZ4629212609QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Regards, Justin
  19. I'm looking at putting megasquirt on my l28 daily driver. I've been reading up and it seems that you can use the stock distributor with the following circuit. Can anyone verify this? Regards, Justin
  20. You can also get the fuel rail material from http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ATP-FUL-010&Category_Code=FUL Regards, Justin
  21. I'm really just interested in a set of tappered runners. No big rush for me. I'm busy with other projects at this point. I'm going to be doing a CNC'd head flange for my l28. Heres one I just did for my audi project:
  22. Any update on this thread? Would you be willing to machine a set of runner/velocity stacks for my L28? Those look really nice. Regards, Justin
  23. The more work you make the turbo do, the more it will slow down between gear changes. That is where you lag will exist. When the compressor slows down and has to get back upto speed when you are full throttle again. The pressurization of the system is a very small portion of any inherent lag you will feel.
  24. Placing a BOV near after the turbo before the intecooler is a better setup. I have placed a MAF sensor on the outlet of the BOV in both positions(near the throttle and right after the turbo). Placing it after the turbo results in higher flow measurements, thus the turbo doesn't slow down as much pushing air through the intercooler. Regards, Justin
  25. I'm looking at swaping a 472 cad engine into my Z. Has anyone around here done this swap? Seems like it would be a beast with the right cylinder heads and such. From what I can tell this is the perfect swap for me since I'm looking at build primarily a drag car on the cheap. The frony mount distributor will also help push the engine back so weight distribution isn't terrible. Regards, Justin
