  1. Very cool car. I used to be into vw's a lot before my audi and 280z project. Anyway, tell your friend to look into the OMNI Mopar auto transmisssion swap. Those are much stronger then vw transmissions, but will bolt up to the vw block. Look around here for more info as there are a couple guys with built mopars with custom driveshaft shop axels to make it work. http://forum.vwsport.com/viewforum.php?f=35 Regards, Justin
  2. The inducer doesn't look all that big. Is it a GT4282R or a 4088?
  3. I'm just questioning the need to subscribe to threads unless you are selling something and want to be notified right away that someone responded or aren't wanting to make a post in a thread and just want to follow the thread.
  4. Wouldn't it be easier to just have a button on the upper toolbar that you can click to see the topics you've posted to without subscribing to each one, and without doing a search. Just one button that you can get at where ever your at in the forum. Or is there a way to automatically subscribe to all threads you post to without having to click the box every time? Justin
  5. Vertical flows are more efficient with everything else being equal. The reason for this is due to the number of passages the charge air has to go through. A vertical flow will have twice as many passages as a horizontal flow core(when comparing a 24"X12" core). Due to the inherent greater cross sectional area, while retaining equal volume, the velocity of air through a vertical flow intercooler is half that of a horizontal flow. The air spends the same amount of time in the intercooler, although it only travels half the distance. Half the distance traveled through a restriction = less pressure drop and more power. Also since the air charge spends the same time traveling have the distance, its going half the velocity. This lower velocity helps reduce pressure drop. Derivation for Flow in a Pipe: A = Cross-sectional Area of Pipe (SI: m2) v = Velocity of the fluid in the pipe (SI: m/s) Thats the thing, the motor is ingesting a set amount of air regardless of intercooler design. It is only flowing that set amount. With equal volume cores, it takes the the same amount of time for set amount of air to pass through the core. Regards, Justin
  6. You can get custom intercoolers with very nice bar plate garrett cores through from precision to whatever dimensions you'd like: http://www.precisionturbo.net/intercoolers-custom.php Heres a nice example of a big vertical flow intercooler they built for this ls1.
  7. Ah, I like that way the best so I dont have to subscribe to every thread I post in. Thanks for the help guys. Justin
  8. I now realize thats true. My dads friend has a convertable 280z. I'm fairy new to the datsuns and didn't realize its a custom convertable conversion. Regards, Justin
  9. Very nice. When building these cars do you start out with a convertable 280z or can you use a hardtop version and cut the roof off? Justin
  10. Here is a turbo mustang running 30psi: http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php?topic=47094.0
  11. It would be really handy for me to follow up on posts that I've made if there was a watched topics button to see all threads that I've recently participated in. I know I can do a search for my name and find post that I"ve recently made, but I think it would be much more convenient if there was a button on the upper portion of the tool bar. next to posts last 24hrs. Is there a reason this feature hasn't been implemented as I've seen it on other forums? Best Regards, Justin Olson
  12. How about an RX7 rear suspension, z32tt, or 350z? 13. I'm looking at idea for a IRS swap into my 77 280z. I would like to do this for several reason: What I want to gain: -Rear Disc Brakes -LSD Differential stronger then R200(r230 or better) -5 lug rear -CV axels -updated unequal length A arms, or trailing arm suspension Canidates: -93-98 Supra -S14 240sx -z32 300zxtt What else is out there that would be a good upgrade for rear suspension? I want to stay with IRS supension so no ford 9". The s14 swap has been done and seems like a good upgrade if you add a R230 to the mix. What is the factory rear track width of the S30? Regards, Justin
  14. 1977 280z 2700lbs without driver 1/2 tank of gas removed front bumper removed condensor uerthane front bumper 15" wheels 225/60-15R Damn this thing is heavy than I thought. I need to start removing excess weight to make this thing more fun to drive. Next on my list is to remove all A/C related hardware. Carbon Fiber hood. s2k seat swap(wont remove any weight). I want to remove the rear bumper but I worry about getting rear ended in this small car. For a daily driver I'm not so sure. Regards, Justin
  15. It definitely wont run on bio diesel, but will run on E85 which is common in sweden where the car was developed. E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. Its a forced induction cars dream fuel for every day driving. 30psi easy without detonation!
  16. Very Nice, are those the PBR calipers? Also, what coilover setup did you end up with? Justin
  17. I'm intested in a set if the quality is good. Regards, Justin
  18. Check out his gallery here: http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8191
  19. That will be a very cool swap I think. Do you know if you have to clearance the transmission tunnel for the th400? Regards, Justin
  20. I would do a S2k engine and transmission if I where doing a honda swap. That f20 is the best honda 4 cylinder out right now. My friend just made 590whp on a stock longblock with a crappy OBX A/W intercooler and s60 turbo. He's now upgrade the intercooler to air/air 18"X12"X4.5" core and putting a GT40R on it:)
  21. Well they use cast iron blocks and aren't light...
  22. Here is a cool option if your crazy: VR6 backed by a G-Force transmission(The adapter plate was made by Rossmachineracing.com) The thing about VR6's is that they aren't that light, and are expensive to get good power out of them. Here is a nice combo that was put together recently with 12v vr6. The 24v is much more potent GT42R VR6 12v stock head stock cams: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2568275
  23. Well, I just found one on Ebay, but I dont have the cash for it right now so heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-Nissan-Fairlady-Z-300ZX-Z32-Rear-VLSD-Conversion_W0QQitemZ8075146085QQihZ019QQcategoryZ33731QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
