Since there are actually 5 different ones, displaying subtle changes from year to year, option to option, it would be difficult to display all of them. Besides, they're available in all of the FSM's, which everybody should have at least 1 of...hehe Good idea though.

Lol, yeah... uh, I must not have got the memo
I was under the impression that all the non turbos were about the same, sans wire color. I only have the 79 one I guess.

I have a full body wiring schematic for S130s. I dunno how to post PDFs, but if you PM me I can email it to you.

So go buy it!!!

I'm on my way to the library right now (no joke), gonna try and get the basics down on engines before I start ready the books on the small block.
As for the sunroof'd Z, I'm not sure I'm gonna get it as its starting to bother the crap out of me, think I'm gonna start looking for one without the sun roof.
No, sunroofs were not a factory option. If the rest of the car is in good shape (little/no rust) just have the hole skinned over. If you get the welder, you can do it your self.

...but the key is having the right mindset - the combination of self-confidence that gets you through the rough spots, with the humilty of knowing when to ask for help and to admit making mistakes. The creativity of finding your own answers, and the studiousness of researching answers already out there.
I couldn't agree more! The main reason it took me a year to convert my car was I expected it to take a year. When I started out I was expecting to take the project slow and easy, learning about each step as I got to it. Like I said, I had no previous mechanical experience when I started so I wasn't expecting a miracle to happen. Actually, I think it's a miracle that I have the car driving.
There were many times when I felt like kicking the s*** out of my car, and actually broke the cam cover on the L28 in a fit of rage (hitting stuff with a hammer) but just stop everything, get a beer, and calm down when you get frustrated.

Sounds like everyone's got you off to a good start! I'd like to add a couple comments, though.
You don't need a welder for the engine swap, but it will make things easier. Also, as long as you don't let the 'while I'm at it' bug get you too bad, you won't need a whole lot of shop/ storage space.
To qualify those statements, let me say I converted my 79 ZX in about a year with a socket set, 8 metric wrenches, 5 standard wrenches, a drill, sawz-all (borrowed), cherry picker and engine stand, 13" jack and two jack stands. I bought the cherry picker, but I could have just as easily borrowed one from one of my shop teachers (he's a datsun nut
) and the engine stand isn't really needed, I found it in my grandpa's shed. My shop space was a single stall garage with shelves on either side and a KX125 in back. When I started out I knew nothing about cars, so anything is possible.

Hey, that's cool!

What motor? I like the sound of most MagnaFlow mufflers

Cool, A friend of mine just got one same year, same color. Does yours have the targa top?

Yeah, I made sure to get the long WP pulley. The thing that confused me is the alternator and WP line up, so I guess I'll get a new crank pulley. Any suggestions?
How about this?

Congrats, deja! The only thing better than firing up the first time is driving the first time. It's only a matter of time!
Hey grumpy, what year is the silver 'vette in the background of that pic, 85?
-
I bought the motor as a whole, but it didn't come with the WP pulley. The pulley I have on there now is the cheep summit one, like this

Hey guys,
I've got the ZX all back together and drove it for the first time with the V8 this weekend. The only problem is the pulleys for the alternator and the water pump don't line up with the crank pulley, i.e. the V-belt grooves on the crank pulley are ~1/4 inch too far rearward. This caused the belt to jump off (which I didn't notice) and overheat.
So can I just shim the pulley with washers? I don't really want to shell out 95 bones to get a serpentine water pump and alternator pulley.

Freckles, got her at the pound ~9 months ago

The pos connects to the starter terminal, the neg is a ground. It connects to the chassis (pretty much anywhere). Just make sure you have a ground running from the chassis to the block somewhere.

To me it looks like sports cars ( perticularly the Z ) are getting more watered down and idiot proof. What happened to the agressive monster track machines that where hardly street legal from the past ?
Law suits from said idiots, maybe?
"Derrrrr... I was driving this car really fast and I buried it underneath a dump truck. Nissan, you didn't make the car safe enough... durrrr"

that is so rediculous, the amount of particulates that came out just from that run...i can feel my life shortening by a day or two allready
Are you serious?

Have you bought new rods yet? If not give me a PM. I've got a set of stock L28 rods if you want them.
-
Sorry I can't answer any of your questions, but CONGRATS on getting 'er together!! I drove mine around the block two weekends ago and she's been at the exhaust shop since Friday. I'm friggin' DIEING to drive it!

I think I know what the chute is for. He took all the brakes out of the car because they add too much weight :lmao:Are those TMNT stickers on the green, uh... jungle-gym in the back?
