Just for giggles...

Not the greatest, but I'm new to it...
I used GIMP, which is a open source photo editing program. I think Dr. Hunt was talking about it a while ago.

Hmmm... a whoping 40mph
I've only actually drove my car once, but I did spin the gear on the back of the spedo up to 50 one time.
-
bschiltz, i'm sorry but this is my opinion, i dont like the ZX's at all, whatever you do, they will never look as good as the 240/260/280Z never.
I know, man. I was just giving you a hard time
How boring would it be if we all liked the same stuff?
-
IMO, sell the ZX and buy a 280Z, spare yourself all the pain. another thing, 280Zs look much much better than the ZX, but still this is my opinion. i would never install a V8 in a 280ZX, they are not worth it, once again, this is MO.
Oh, Ali! You're killing me, man! Nothing wrong with ZX's they just need a little more lovin' to look as good

You can swap the R200 from the ZX to the 240 without too much trouble. Major structural damage to the 240 kinda throws up a red flag for me, but it depends on the quality of the work done. The 240 has a longer engine bay so more room, but the ZX isn't too bad either. I dunno, a lot of the considerations come down to what you want the car to do.

NEVER MIND... I'm a dumba**
note to self, check size before buying parts. It's 3/8 inverted flare, not NPT FWIW.
-
Does anyone know what size threads the fuel inlet on a 85 Rochester q-jet are? The JTR book says 3/8 NPT but I've tried two different fittings and they don't fit (too big).
Also does anyone know what size the fitting are for the transmission cooler on the JTR radiator?
Thanks
Ben

The wire plug just goes to the torque converter lock-up... thing. If you wire it like the BTO one, the converter locks when in 4th gear and unlocks when the brakes are pushed. Locking the tq converter helps keep temps down in the tranny and marginal MPG improvement. By and large, the TV cable is the most important aspect of the transmission as far as set-up goes.
-
On a ZX you can either reach under/behind the dash and disconect the spedo cable or take the whole cluster out. Taking the cluster out is more work but a lot less frustrating.

Got my shifter in the other day. I'll get a better pic soon.
-
Nice! You can sure tell when you open it up all the way, that thing screams! I take it you like the new motor, right?
-
FWIW, that sounds like the setup BowTie overdrives uses. The wire goes to a five pin relay that has a ground, 12V keyed power, tranny/lock-up and brake light. Power from the break light unlocks the converter so it doesn't burn up.

Thank good for DavyZ and his "dictionary". I had no idea (age is starting to show).
Pftt... I'm 18 and I've never herd "donk" before! Thant's just fine with me too, you can keep those 20" boat anchors down in "da durty souf"

Am I the only one who immediately thinks of building a REALLY fast sand rail when I see that footage?
I don't know about that... but am I the only one who read the title to the tune of "Another one bites the dust"?

My older brother (who I bought the car from) told me about it. He had looked into a V8 swap but isn't too mechanically inclined so never started it. He also told me about zcar.com but I didn't like it there. I tought about keeping the L28 for a while and searched (gasp, what are the odds) there but didn't find anything helpful... so I came here

I'm smelling something fishy. When you click on the link it just gives you an email address.

Looks like a dead cat sitting on your passenger side seat.

4800 dollars for my 1977 280Z shipped from CA to Kuwait. it had the stock L28, exhaust, springs, and a bit of rust.
how much did i spend till now? i have no idea
Enough...

Do you think that with good internals you could really rev a destroked engine THAT much more than it's counterpart? I am not saying that it's not doable because it is, but IMO it's bordering on counterproductive in a best case scenario especially considering that with the same money you could have at the very least equal power (at fewer rpms) with a properly matched setup.
I totally agree that it can easily be counterproductive and a very expensive way to nowhere. Like I said, I was honestly curious and I don't know all the answers.
I guess I was thinking along the lines of Grumpy's mantra "Match your cam/heads/intake" and a properly matched setup with max power at higher RPMs can deffinately benifit from 1500-2000 extra RPMs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think forced induction(especially turbos) are a whole different ballgame.
Thanks for that link, BTW. I'd seen it before, but now it's bookmarked.

Welcome to HybridZ
My point is thus: If you can increase the number of RPMs an engine can turn by X ammount by de-stroking it and that lets you run a cam/intake/head setup that gives you greater high end power, why is this bad? I think this is especially valuable if you are running a forced induction setup when the extra RPMs can mean the difference between compressor #1 and larger compressor #2. It really does boil down to the purpose of the engine, just as Defrag said.

Destroking is a nono
And why is that? I'm not trying to start anything, I'm honestly curious.
-
If the cylinder walls are worn out you can bore them out, that just means extra cubes!
-
First off a LT1 is probably going to be a cheaper and simpler swap, however if you are good as wiring and can find a cheap LS1 then by all means go for it!
I think a Vette LT1 has a different config. with the alternator, AC pump, etc. and causes some fitment problems. I forget which rear end came in the 260z's but your best bet is the R200. If you can get under the car look at the outputs on the diff. If there are five bolts arround each side and has a taller rear cover then it's a R180. If it has no bolts arround the output and has a round-ish rear cover, then it's a R200. Don't let the rear end stop you from buying the car, though. If it has straight frame rails and little rust then go for it. Check the floor pans, frame rails, 'dog legs' behind the doors and any other suspect areas.
Also, don't be afraid to search
Edit: Man, I need to type faster! There were no responses when I started!

Pshh, Yeah! If you take the T-tops off you can use it for duck hunting!
How much does the areo weigh, Max?
