  1. yes did the top end myself and it has a rollmaster timing chain with competition cam and lifters. i thought maybe the rollmaster cam gear may be rubbing against the block.
  2. yeah good idea, and it doesnt have power steering so that rules that out. It is definately coming from the front of the engine.
  3. where did you get this done garry?
  4. with 500hp you will have a great deal of problems with traction i think. Have a look at darius.com
  5. Ok, I have a 327 in my zed and have just started it. The engine is running fine and sounds good, but when I rev it up it starts to make a high pitched whurring sound that seems to be in sync with the engine revs. I removed the fan belt thinking it was the alternator or water pump but it still does it. I am thinking it is the timing chain perhaps rubbing on the block???? The car has plenty of oil pressure and the valve train has plenty of oil. Any help from the forum would be great. Thanks graeme
  6. This engine is a very popular transplant for the 510 down here in Aus. I say go the v8. 1. You cant beat the v8 sound in a zed for getting the looks 2. You will not get the tyre frying torque from a sr20det. 3. If you enjoy screaming the tits out of your engine to get big power, then go for it. I like the idea of hardley touching the throttle and knowing you will accelerate like no tomorrow. Just my 20cents worth.
  7. Welcome and I agree , they are the best looking cars out there!!!! You have good taste steve
  8. Also check the resistance on your leads including the coil lead. If there is a large variance replace them all. Use your multimeter on Ohms resistance.
  9. Whats bondo? Is this body filler? We call it Bog down here.
  10. sounds like your pump has shit itself, perhaps explaining the belt coming off. remove the belt and give it a spin, if shes hard to turn shes glagged.
  11. thanks Guys, I think i will fabricate some gussetts and go through the chasis rails. I want this z to pass the engineer without a hassle.
  12. we are south east 1 hours drive from the sea.
  13. chevs are so much easier to adjust than fords, just add that extra 1/2 turn when she had stopped clicking and you are home.
  14. Even if the 289 (supposedly) bolts straight in, the engine will be too far forward and the weight distribution will increased at the front of the car. If you are going to do this conversion and want the car to be a good handler then do it right the first time. The JTR manual should be your bible. Dont listen to people that think they know, do what I did and buy the manual , stay close to this forum and you cant go wrong.
  15. buy the JTR manual for tpi and tbi engine transplants. If you have the computer and wiring harness you would be better off to keep this setup[. The manual explains in detail all the steps needed to perform this conversion. Buy it before you buy the carby and see what you think. Just my .20 worth. Cheers
  16. I bought the service manual for my 327 and it has 350 specs as well but only up to 1980. The timing is between 6 and 10 btc seems the more power the engine puts out in factory form the more advanced it is. I would set it at 8btc and see how she goes.
  17. mine was the same before I put my hood on and when it went on I had about 1/8 th of an inch clearance. I couldnt believe the hood fitted ok, the engine looked way too high.
  18. Thanks Bushido I picked it myself is a solid color called blue violet.
  19. What make are the strut braces and how much were the y . I am interested in some. Cheers
  20. All year round driving down here in Aus, our winters are just cold with some rain ,no snow or below zero temps during the day. We are lucky in that respect. The only problem we have is cooling in summer where the temp can exceed 40 degrees C for days at a time.
  21. Its not far fetched but you will need deep pockets thats for sure.
  22. all I can say is expect it take longer than u think, its all the little fidley jobs that take the time. Have fun though I did.
  23. I have 327 in my z and the tacho works fine at idle, but when I rev it it goes dead. Can anyone help me plz.
  24. I was concerned about this as well so I made my own mounts. I have a edelbrock torker manifold and a 750 DP and the air cleaner is a ramflow. I have about 1/8th of an inch clearance and the engine is set back closer than jtr because Im running a narrower twin point dizzy not HEI. Hope this helps.
