  1. Yeah I want to go with the griffin GRI-1-25202-X Chevrolet: 24 in. length x 19in. height radiator ... But the jtr bible says aluminum rads crack at the tanks in one year or something like that. Mike, my motor is a 1994 350 4 bolt Goodwrench crate motor Serial#(10066038. So you said if the motor was a late motor go with the camero, what do you think? What about aluminum water pumps?
  2. Hey! The engine and transmission is in and bolted up! Used the motorSport mounts and seemed to work really good. It was really fun and makes you want to do it again. The tranny mount goes in the tunnel like a big U. Ordered the B&M Mega sifter and holley blue today. Question: http://radiator.com/price.cfm this link is to the Radiator.com site of two radiators. (JTR recomends an '86 Camero "BASE" Radiator) in the book. I realize the price difference between the two is small and the Upgrade one will be cooler but if the upgrade won't fit cause it is larger. So the question: is the upgrade one larger. Then you must be thinkin why don't i just call them and find out... well, i might just get a dumb ass that tells me same size them bammm won't fit. OR:-) if I'm off, what radiator do I need. HA hhahahAHHA engine is in. Right now it's primered with bomb primer. ha ha ha ha. It's a bad ride. so, what radiator?
  3. hey, I'm looking at the B&m Mega Shifter. It looks like it might be a good choice for my auto tranny(not sure). What do you guys think? They offer two models, a universal model and a console model that it says is designed for Camaro and firebird. So what I'm wondering is should i buy a regular or a console model? Will the console fit in the zcars console? Either one it seems like the console in the z will have to be cut up some, right? I realize most of you guys are using t5, t56 trannys but any help with the shifter choice would be great, thanks, Bob in CAnull
  4. getting ready to try and install the 350 and the th350 Sunday(later a 700r4) and I have two questions. Can the shifter be installed after the engine and tranny is bolted up or will it be impossible to connect the shift cable in the narrow tunnel? This is the main question since pulling the motor back out to connect the shifter would bad. And what shifter should I buy and how much should it cost? ok, three questions are the shifters compatable with both th350 and 700r4. Thanks for your help again [ June 28, 2001: Message edited by: 72zcar ]
  5. Has anyone used the MSA conversion kit? Come on, someone must have used it. I already bought msa, then found this sight surfing. Come on, someone must have used it...crap I know now that I maybe sould have gone jtr but its too late for that. jtr, jtr jtr thats all i see. I just want one person to say msa and it worked great. Sorry, I'm just a little discouraged about msa right now.
  6. ok, I have two rear ends in the garage. One I know is a r180 the other I'm not sure. The second one does not have a mustache mount. Instead it has a large square rubber and steel mount in the center, no mustache mount. Does this mean it is a r200. Or am I way off, haha On a second note: all the wrecking yards around here want 400+ for a 700r4 tranny. Is this about right? Still thinking about going with the th350 i already have. I know I would be an idio but hey... i already have the th350.
  7. oh, thats right the rear end that I got out of a parts car a while back was an automatic. When I do the spin test it comes out just over 3.5 to one. So the 240z auto has a 3.54 : 1 ratio... am I right?
  8. thanks scottie for the info. So if i go ahead and put the th350 for now just to get it on the road and look around for a 4 speed auto what should I look for in a good tranny? Model? Wrecked car ro look for it in? And would the tranny mounts and the drive line need to be re-done or should it bolt up to the mounts and drive line I'm installing for the th350? I already have the th350 and its bolted to the motor ready to go in. But if I have to redo all that stuff later I might just dig deeper in my empty pockets and get the right one now. Wife is already wanting food.
  9. hey zrider, I am in the first stages of my 72 350, th350 and i don't want to be turning 5000 rpms at 60 mph... this would be bad. Question: What gear ratio are you running in the rear end? Some of the other guys I was talking to said some of the original r180 rear ends in the zcars have 4:11 gears. This might explain alot. Hey, your car must really fly up to 60 though right! What do you guys think if I put the 3:54 gears in my 350. th350? Would it help and make it drivable on the interstate? If not i must find a cheap 700r4.
  10. Thanks Les for the tip. The one the came out of my car checked out just over 3 1/4 turns so it must be 3.36. But it is not in the best condition. The one out of the part car is in good shape turns just over 3 1/2 turns, 3.55. Going with the 3.55 ratio
  11. Ok, then 3.36 gear r180 is what I need out of a early z. I have two rear ends, the one that was in it and one I got out of a parts car a while back. How can I tell the difference between a r180 4:11 and a r180 3.36. The two rear ends both came out of 72 z cars but they look a little different. Any ideas. If i can put a 3.36 i think i can live with that for a while.
  12. Ok thats bad news for my t350 tranny (that i already have). Can Anyone help with the rear end choice for my 72z with the 350 and t350. What kind of rpms are we talkin with a t350 if I stick my r180 in it at say 70 mph
  13. yep, thats going to be the tricky part... moving the male part on the hood and having it match up will be a neat trick. So your z is on the road? I'm am very interested in the way the jtr m-mounts look. Mine are made of 1 inch tube and 1/4 inch plate. And the tranny mount goes up in the tunnel on both sides and down. you would have to see it, its hard to explain. The tranny mopunt looks like its going to be fun. Anyone ever done the msa mounts?
  14. I already received the motor and trans mounts but the hood latch should be here tomorrow. Let you know more then. T-jay over at msa said the old hood latch thing will have to be removed from the firewall and the msa one attached 6 inches to the side to allow the dist. to fit close against the firewall. Yeah, the gm motor and trans mounts coming with is a plus.
  15. Planing on using my r180 for a while and changing to a r200 later. Will this change drivshaft length. If it does change it I will have to go hunt down a 280z now for a good rear end even though money is not growin on trees around here. Not going to cut twice. 1972 240z 350, T350, aluminum intake, block huggers and msa mounts. My guess is that it most likely does change the ds length... not sure. Be nice if it didn't
  16. Your right the radiator is a rip and that hose thing for 85 is crazy. But I did buy the mounts, throttle cable and the speedo cable, the huggers and the hood thing. Need to know how fast when the cops are on my butt maybe...haha. The mounts really look strong and came with the GM mounts and the trans rubber mount. I hope i did not make a mistake with msa man. aaahhh [ June 19, 2001: Message edited by: 72zcar ]
  17. ok, can someone that has worked with both jtr and msa give us some clear info. Height of motor, setback. Has anyone used msa? I'm using msa all the way.
  18. I just bought the msa motor and trany mounts. Everyone her says that jtr is better but the mounts look good to me, and are set back. The catalog says the engine is the closest to the firewall with msa. I'm using the t350 auto and a 350 with msa block hugger headers aluminum intake. just got started yesterday and so far just re-routed that one brake line and cut of the trany mounts on the z in the tunnel, removed a few other things that is not needed. The trans mount looks like its going to be a neat trick to install. I also bought the throttle linkage, the speedo cable and the hood latch thing from msa man... i like msa. When i called the other day they had a 280 in back getting a small block so maybe they know what they are doing, ha ha
