  1. grumpyvette: I have the holley blue pump and the regulator that came with it... but can not get a steady reading on my gauge. Can I use the regulator that came with the holly blue http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=HLY%2D12%2D802%2D1 to do what you described above? What you said makes alot of sense. thanks, Bob
  2. Both the front and back MSA stut bars are straight. No bends, I have both on my v8 z. Not sure if they would fit a stock motor...
  3. BIG F%#@ING HAMMER... I didn't get around to installing my taurus fan yesterday, spent all day replacing all 16 wheel studs. Had a few stripped ones so went ahead and relaced them all and all new lug nuts too. Now I don't have to worry about my tires falling off
  4. msa makes them http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TZS&Category_Code=PSDC03 I also see them on ebay sometimes
  5. MSA sells the kit for the 79zx http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=TZS&Product_Code=10-1822&Category_Code=PRC01
  6. maybe you need a BFH... I hope not. I am about to install a taurus fan sunday I got at the wrecking yard with a thermostat. I hope it works. Its also a two speed fan. Man, I hooked it to a battery to see if it worked and on high speed that thing really blows.. I was thinking of putting it in front of the radiator in back of the grill but then it would suck everything off the road like one of those giant vacuums u see in parking lots. haha ...
  7. And you are right, with the stock 14 inch slinkies i did have to disconnect the halfshaft at the wheel. With the shorter stiffer springs its not needed. But if you are taking off those slinkies .. make your life easy and drop the the brake line and halfshafts for sure in the back. ... after slinkies gone bye bye front nothing back brake lines only for sure.
  8. front nothing, back brake lines... thats it. done it many times
  9. nice z really nice. Myself,,,having little to no eztra money started with a 72 z roller that I had for a while stored in garage. Buy a 64 chevelle four door that had a 91 goodwrench crate and th-350 tranny running good for 1100 $... pull nuh and sell roller for 500 so now i have my mojo for 600 bucks. Now coilovers, bars above and below, tires, brakes, b&m rachet, shift kit, msd,and a bunch of other stuff like edelbrock intake, 600 edelbrock carb, wires, batterey relocate, paint myself, and other stuff i cant remember right now so now i got how much in it... 3-4,000 Good enough for me and it hauls ass... just got it legaly on the road tuesday Have been working on it once a week for 22 months on sunday only. so about 98-90 weeks maybe. 90 days but some weeks we worked on other zs... so i figure about 45-50 days max to do the swap. Or 1.5 months I want to thank everyone for helping. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I'm done..it never ends Bob
  10. it may be your auto tranny slipping a bit. with your motor up to operating temp and the tranny in park check the fluid level of the transmission.
  11. Got my plane tickets. they got a special right now... buy a plane ticket get a free 19 tooth sprocket... what was the steve martain joke. "i said socket not sprocket" crap I cant remember. Ok, sunday (my only day off) I will pull the driven gear out and look at it. See what color it is and count the teeth. Before I change the sprockets with my socket I thing I will hit the freeway and bury the speedo all the way to 160...just slam the pucker way past 160 and take a digital pic of it...hahaha should be able to do that at about 100mph
  12. acually that makes sense...i think. so I may just have to replace the driven gear ( the gear with the shaft) and not nessarlly the drive gear, but possibly both the driven and the drive gear I am looking at page 11-3 in the bible. I see the retainer, the sleeve, the driven and the drive gear. DO I... remove the retainer pull out the sleeve and then pull out the driven gear? Or am I way off? ANd if I do this is a bunch of tranny fluid going to pour out? should I drain the pan first? thks, bob
  13. gear ratio: 3:54 tire hight: 26 inches capital of South Dakota: Pierre ok thats 3 out of 4
  14. thanks greimann, but I cant get the calculator to work and I not even sure if I am putting in the right information. Surely someone out there has run a th-350 (i know its not the best tranny for cruisin on the freeway, but its what I had laying around and its strong) and can help. Page 11-2 jtr says its the same gears as the t-5 in the chart. so maybe if someone running a t-5 can tell me what driven gear and what drive gear it may help. not sure thanks bob
  15. there is one page in the jtr book on this but I still don't get it. I have a th-350 / 3:54 rear end and 225/70/14 tires CAn anyone help me with what driven gear and drive gears to use? thanks, bob
  16. Have been thrashing my 72 v8 z around town a bit shaking the bugs out and I today took it on its first freeway trip... the tranny is a th-350 and i used the msa speedo cable. When at 60 it says 90. hahaha now what I know there is a gear somewhere to replace with a different one, where does it go and how do i know what gear to buy Thanks, bob in ca with (as of today) a registered and insured and running v8 z...hahahahahaha
  17. ok... tip: for the record don't do what I did... the plastic rivets did not need to be removed with the tool in the previous posts. They did have the little things in the middle so it did not need to use the tool and break about 6 of them. All i needed to do is press the middle out..crap. In the garage they look solid, I could not see the middle part...crap. Oh well live and learn. I dont blame tim by the way... its all on me, i am the one that said they did not have the center part. Now I need rivets. Is there any cheaper place to buy the plastic rivets than MSA... I like MSA but at 6.50$ for ten plus S/H I am hating it, I need about 20-30 of them. My 73 need a buch too
  18. two kragens and one hardware store..no luck. Then I ran into my buddy the auto upholstery guy when i was coming out of the hardware store. he let me borrow one... haha should have thought of him sooner ..haha
  19. now if kraken only had it...just got back and "she" didn't even know what I was talking about... now i'm armed with the part number..brb
  20. ooops...ok is this it? http://www.partsamerica.com/product_images/AAP/APO/t70606.jpg or this? http://www.partsamerica.com/product_images/img/PBI/648544.jpg
  21. thanks tim...im going to go over there right now. I am lucky to have a kragen a couple doors down from my video game store.. is this it? http://www.partsamerica.com/PartDetails.asp?SourceArea=&SourcePage=SEARCHRESULTS&MfrCode=PBI&MfrPartNumber=648544&CategoryCode=3412
  22. ok thanks, mine are the one piece deal. no center thing in the middle. so I buy a panel romoving tool... think kragen would have it? and does this tool salvage the rivets? thanks, bob
  23. anyone? The last time on my 73 i used side wire cutters to cut off the blach plastic rivet things but it messed up the interior panel a little bit. Is there a better way thanks, bob
  24. best way to remove interior buttons? I am trying to replace antena on v8 z. can they be salvaged? First test trash sunday off street... pretty much hauls the mail
