  1. ok, so far it looks like 9 or 10 yes and 2 no. anybody else
  2. Check this out.. its from IanZ's album. Notice the mounts in the tunnel are still there. this is a T-5 http://www.netsnapshot.com/pcw/buildalbum-cgi?ACCOUNT=4581&KEY=0 Click on the one named "MSA Transmission Mount " to enlarge the pic and you can see the original datsun tranny mounts in the tunnel with a T-5 installed... No cutting needed apparently with a T-5
  3. Georgia Flash 75V8 there are if and butts...read the jtr manual on page 7-10...it states "The two brackets for the stock Datsun transmission crossmember need to be removed to install an automatic transmission or Corvette 4+3 manual transmission" I thought they had to come out "period" too...until I was reading the "bible" again for the third or forth time and began to wonder if it is always necessary...
  4. YES TH-350 I have been wondering who has removed the tranny mounts in the tunnel and who has not and what tranny was used. I removed mine on my 72 first thing so I am not sure it was necessary... I am pretty sure it was for my TH-350 but what about other transmissions SO.. everyone first state yes or no and what tranny then elaborate under that. I was thinking the other day it would be cool if I could put the old L-24 back in temporarily while rebuilding the chevy 350... at least I could still drive it if the 350 took a dump... and would be much simpler if the tranny mounts in the tunnel were still there... bob
  5. If it a 78 z it may be worth 4500 bucks...anything is possible. if its a zx i don't think so best years are 70-73..after that its all downhill
  6. but what about my questions from a couple posts up... whaa whaa ..haha this is a question.. QUestion: i also have a 73...im thinking of doing it Wc T-5 ..the question is Is it also needed to cut the tunnel tranny mounts out when doing a T-5 swap, i thought i read somewhere the they could stay with a t-5. I not sure i want to cut them out of both my zs in case i want to go back to the original motor later. someone set me straight about the tunnel tranny mount on A t-5 ..THANKS. HERE ARE ALL THE NUMBERS i CAN FIND ON THE 327. I looked up 3914660 and i see is a 68 327 but what are all these other numbers for? 3914660 conv1 T12 T0326HN 180126829 THATS ALL THE NUMBERS I CAN FIND, CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT SOME OF THEM ARE? THANKS, BOB
  7. this is a question.. I already have a auto (th350) in my 72. Now I came across a 72 vega with a '68 327 and a 700r4 in it, the motor runs great. I think its out of a 1968 camaro or vette. ( block # 3914660) anyhow i bought it for 1,100$ pulled the motor, tranny, aluminum radiator, hurst ratchet shifter, and driveline and sold the roller on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2403659069 for 2,100 dollars. So i did well...hahahaha....hahahahhaha... 8. Hey, how much would you let your triple webers go for and do you have any pics? thanks, bob
  9. The 30 bucks disposable camera trick sounds good i theory... but if the z is a gem and the right price it would be sold before you got the pictures developed..haha sorry
  10. self tappers work good. I drilled the fender out and used bolts with teflon nuts on the back side. WOW,,,... the holly blue is LOUD... i may replace it with something quieter. Anyone have a suggestion for a quieter pump?
  11. Georgia Flash check these pics out. this should answer your question bout the full size air cleaner with a strut tower bar... I know its not a z...but im selling my 72 vega on ebay setup for 350 chevy...check it out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2403659069&category=6173
  12. hey Georgia Flash ... the msa kit sets my 350 hei distributor about 5/8-3/4 of an inch from the firewall/ i don.don't think u can use a strut tower brace with a full size cleaner.. i have the msa strut tower brace and use the edelbrock v shaped cleaner. http://www.72zcar.50megs.com/ the pics need updating, they dont show the tower brace...i will update it monday after i get some new pics sunday..
  13. MSA (motor sport auto) www.zcarparts.com has the kit that comes with the conversion motor mounts and the tranny mount that also comes with GM stock rubber mounts for $225... for the 79-83 280zx... The tranny mount is for the 700-r4 and if u want to use the th350 u have to buy the 30$ adapter. I have seen people use the tranny mount for a t5 manual 5 speed...no need for the 30$ piece in the case. I used the msa mounts for my 72 and it was good. engine set back close to the firewall and easy to install. If I were doing a zx swap I would pay the 225 for the mounts from msa...its worth it in my opinion
  14. how much did u steel the z for? If you don't mind me asking...
  15. oh yeah i almost forgot..check this out http://www.netsnapshot.com/pcw/buildalbum-cgi?ACCOUNT=4581&KEY=0 this guy used the msa tranny mount with a T5 transmision hydraulic clutch... look at the last pic in the page.. hahahaha ..sorry
  16. i used the msa kit. there is less than 3/4 of an inch between the firewall and the hei distributor. the oil pan sits 4.5 inches og the ground. the jtr kit maybe puts the motor back a little farther that the msa kit but not 2 inches.... im guessing perhaps 1/2 of an inch..not sure. the msa kit worked great and no pounding of the tunnel..if it were back any more i would have had to pound this is for sure because the th350 tranny fits snug... not touching but damm near touching the inside of the tunnel. I have nothing against the jtr kit (its great) but i just wanted to set the record straight that the msa kit is a fine kit. my hei distributor is less than 3/4 ( maybe even 5/8) of an inch off the firewall and this is fine with me . check it out... its painted black now but here is the web site http://www.72zcar.50megs.com/
  17. I am installing a new electric fan on my L28 in my 71 240z. The old fan (before i bought the car) had the fan thermostat sender was under the top hose on top of the thermostat (radiator side of thermostat) Is this right? it seems like it should be on the engine side of the thermostat... someone set me straight..thanks

  19. Hey... u lucky sucker..hahaha what are you going to do.. are you going to drive it from LA to Sacramento or trailer it? If your going to drive it why don't you stop by my Video Game store and show me the zcar... I was thinking of buying it myself but I already have 3 and my wife is starting to look at me weird .. oh well. I'm in the Monterey area on your way home. www.72zcar.50megs.com/
  20. try www.radiator.com and get the 86 camaro 2.5L 4 cyl... thats what I have and it fit perfect and keeps it cool. 151$
  21. Really nice work! I see you have the locking hood pins down toward the front of the hood... did that work out good for you and does it hold the hood securely? I have the same locking hood pins and have been trying to figure the best place to mount them.. Oh, are u going to use the stock (modified) hood lack along with the hood pins or only hood pins? I have been going nuts trying to figure this out..[b:506688cc32]If u could post some close up pics of the lower part of the hood pins that would be great![b:506688cc32] Thanks, Bob http://www.72zcar.50megs.com/
  22. Thanks Davy.. I'll try the peeler Bob
  23. I bought headers for my v8 z and they came bare metal so I painted them with heat paint.. baked them in the oven.. repainted and baked some more. I did this 4 times and they came out good and the paint did not burn off. So I bought a header for my truck but they came pre-painted so i just stuck them on... big mistake... they burned off the paint for weeks smelling bad. My question is: Now I bought (still being shipped) for my L24 z from msa and they are coming pre-painted, I asked the msa guy if is would be heat paint and he said no it would not be... he said it would be just regular paint and it would burn off. So what am I supposed to do? If I paint over the non heat paint and bake it in the oven will this work? Or sould I burn it off with a torch or should I try and remove it with paint remover before heat painting them? Why can't they just use heat paint... would it kill them. I don't want this header burning off the paint it really smells
  24. Hey, I bought another 240z yesterday to add to my 72 v8 z and my 300zx. This one is a 73, it runs no rust need some work for 400$. Did a compression test on it today and it has 160 all across except # 1 that is 155... I was happy, thought I was going to find a 50 or something. It has a 5 speed (280 i guess) and electronic distributor. My question is.. the casting block # right above the starter starts out L24###. When I seen the 5 speed and the electronic ignition I thought I might have a 280z engine. But I'm assuming the L24 # on the block means its a 240z motor right? Anyhow, 400 bucks and I drove it home, I'm happy, or insane not sure. My wife was giving me weird looks but what else is new..haha
