  1. Hey tim i've never checked the fuel/air mixture yet.I did turn up the fuel pressure up to 55psi and it will do it under boost.I did unhook the exhaust from the down pipe and it ran like crap i just wanted to see if it would run better.
  2. It's the stock turbo for the 81zxt.It runs much better with the exhaust on than off.
  3. Here's the deal guys i took off the exhaust to see if my boost problem would go away.My problem was it would hit 15psi at first then slowly back down on pressure when the rpms went up.Anyway i took it off and it ran like crap it boosted the same too but i didn't want to take the rpms up too high cuz i didn't want to mess anything up.It also sounded funny after so high of rpm the turbo wasn't audiable anymore just the exhaust making a weird sound.Anyone know the problem?Or is this normal?
  4. Thanks for the response i'm going to try it.
  5. I'll ask here since i got no response in the misc section.I put in one fan already on the IC and i'm planning on putting another in the stock location eliminating the clutch fan is this a good idea?I'll have two electrics running at the same time.Should i use some kind of thermostat on the radiator fan to keep the power consumption down?
  6. Well i put one on today and plan to put the other on soon. The one i put on was on the IC.The other is going to take the place of the stock clutch fan.Is this a good idea to use two fans? The one on the IC is great i haven't tried it in a extreme conditions but i think just the one will do.Will it gain more power with the clutch fan removed?
  7. Well i was board and decided to check it after the FPR crush and at idle it does 45 psi and at boost it does 55 psi and holds it.It stayed at 45 after i shut the car off.I was also wondering if it would benefit me to put on an electric fan? I was pricing them today. What do you guys think?
  8. Well here's my update i was driving this morning and on my way to work as usual and of course in first breaks the tires loose upon boost so i let off didn't look at the gauge. Then in to second and i step on it and holy $hit it breaks the tires loose in second too apon boost. It's never done that before scared the crap out of me.Then i checked boost on both gauges and low and behold it was back to 15 psi on both. Now like someone said in this post does it depend on temp and humidity?Cuz this morning was about 65 degerees farenheit(sp?) and not humid at all it was very nice out.Could it be the ic being unable to drop the temp enough when it's 90 and humid?I'm planning to put an electric fan on the ic for better air circulation cuz if i run it hard like at the track it heats up quick but as soon as i go down the road it cools right down to where it's suppose to be.Am i nuts or what?
  9. it's from a volvo and said to handle up to 25psi.But i don't know that for sure it does a really good job you can tell by checking the temps before and after. What type should i get?It drove the same today after work in 85 degree heat so it kinda killed that theory.I have one more culprate i think it could be a fuel problem. My tank gets plugged from time to time the little tank inside the one that holds the fuel under acceleration.I think maybe it's starving for fuel and not getting enough heat and exhaust to keep the boost up.I'm going to have the tank taken off and professionally cleaned.
  10. One more thing i was a ford tech too and those things don't just blow head gaskets the heads crack very easily and they are very expensive to replace.I've worked on one putting in new heads and gaskets the guy must have been rich to afford the repair bill.
  11. That's what he told me they don't look that tall but i'm not an expert on tires.I'm going to check for myself tomorrow.
  12. I found out the size what size wheels would i need for them on my zt?They are 27x10x15 hoosier tires i think that's how it's spelled.I was also wondering if anyone has anything that will work that i can buy?
  13. Did you ever have one you sound like you've been thru the stuff before. Thanks for the lesson.
  14. I saw it on the mitsu page for 3000gt's and they said that the kid should get one for a mod. What does it do and does it really make a big diff? Are they just for those cars?
  15. 240 twin turbo i don't have an after market fuel system.I have the stock system but the pump is new and a high pressure high flow unit. But i crushed the frp to 55 psi and adjusted the afm so it would idle with out loading up with fuel.Is this wrong?I just got my turbo fever and am trying to mod it as much as i can with stock parts.I'm poor and can't afford all the high tech stuff yet.Where can i get one and how much?
  16. Well i'm having troubles again guys.My psi reading is changing all the time.I can be driving it and in third it will read 15psi on the intake gauge then the next day drive again and third will read 13 psi on the intake gauge. The pre ic gauge reads 15 psi all the time i check the intake gauge on full throttle.Could it be a leak?Or just the exhaust?I took out the pov and it seems to run worse It seems when it's venting pressure it boosts higher the faces say it all. What do you guys think?Bad ic?exhaust?leak?
  17. Ok now i get it sorry guys just a little mis information. Now i'm on the right track thanks.
  18. Ok thanks for clearing that up.What does the adjustable part control? On the aftermarket ones?
  19. It was 1" standard plug i got it at the hardware store.
  20. I thought the bov acted as both the pov and the bov meaning it blows off any extra pressure incase the wastegate goes nuts.I know it does blow off the pressure when the throttle is closed by sensing vaccum. And i thought the adjustable part was for the over boost situation.Am i wrong? My ic is pretty efficent only 1 psi drop across it.It is running rich but i'll adjust it later but like i said i'd rather have it rich than lean.Air fuel gauge is next on the list know of where to get one at a diecent price?
  21. I kow just about everone will say not to do it but i did already. It was restricting the engine.I have a question before the pov would release at 15psi and it would do it loud now that it's gone out of the car it still does only go to 15psi but i noticed that the ic is alot more efficent when it says 15 on the pre ic gauge the post ic gauge reads about 14 and a half close to 15#. Why is it not going any higher could it be a leak?My BOV is coming soon so i don't plan to run it too long with out protection.Between the fuel pressure being higher abd the pov being removed it made a big difference in all the gears i like it.It smokes a little when i take off but then clears right up when full boost hits.So what do you guys think?
  22. I'm no pro like some guys,i haven't had any trouble with my set up.But i guess the only way to find out is try.The reason the pipe is smaller on my car on the output of the turbo is partially to the size of the output of the turbo it's self.If it was bigger i would of ran 2.5" all the way.
  23. I run 2.5" and i don't have any problems with throttle reponse and pressure loss is only 1 to 2 psi from turbo to intake thru the ic.I think it's just right for what i'm doing right now.And if i want to expand the mods i don't have to do much to it.
  24. Thanks scottie i did it and it worked great a huge difference in acceleration. It's crushed to about 50 psi the gauge i used is a really good one i used air to find the pressure and crushed it in a vice.It runs a little rich but i'd rather have it rich than lean.I have a couple FPRs so if i want a lower psi i can just crush another.Could i just adjust the afm a little to compensate for the rich idle mixture? The pump is an after market high pressure high flow i changed it before the turbo engine was installed.I love that thing(turbo) i took this kid for a ride i just met him tonight he has a 300zx 85 he took me for a ride and then i took him for a ride he was ****ting when the boost kicked in.Nice guy glad to see another z lover in the area.
  25. i saw on a site that you could crush the regulator a little to make the spring tighter and create more pressure on the stock regulator and pump.Has anyone done this?
